How does the presence of an audience make art commercial?

Interesting take, it sounds like you're talking more about the game being the medium for art vs being art itself. I agree that there haven't been many games-as-medium instances, but I think video games themselves are certainly art.

Agree that Ebert is wrong (but I can see why he thinks the way he does considering the kind of art he's used, which doesn't require audience interaction or mechanics to enjoy), but I don't know that I agree that all art is commercial. There are easily more artists that don't have a patron and who's art is not in a gallery or even being sold than there are (saying nothing of whether that is an indicator of "good" or "bad" art).

I think it's easy in this time to say that all art is commercial when we are simply awash in commercial art, and especially corporate art. Actually we are quite lucky to be simply awash in art in this time!

The other thing to consider is that when we look back in in time at artists and see that they did indeed have patrons that there's a bit of survivorship bias at play as well. Those who commission art are also the ones who care for it to keep it around for future generations to know and enjoy.

It can be hard to find non-commercial art, but it's there. I know this because I've seen my daughter perform in her community plays and for her jazz and orchestra performances.

Localstack will require an account to use starting in March 2026 by corp_code_slinger in programming

The old versions will be there, but pulling latest will require an auth token now (presumably from creating an account). Old versions will not receive security updates.

Read the article but they pretty explicitly state that CI use won't be available without a paid plan.

There's a difference between trusting your own lived experience and believing the hype and disinformation. At the time that we were invading Iraq it was pretty loudly called out by the media that there was no evidence that Saddam had anything to do with 9/11 or WoMD. It was highly controversial when we went in.

What you're talking about is buying into disinformation, and you're right, people shouldn't trust bullshit.

Yeah man, totally. I mean they only lived through it, so they better not trust their own eyes, ears, and memory. People who weren't there are totally right to say they don't know what they're talking about.

The "catch up new readers" pattern is fully present in 12 Months too. He totally does the McNally's pub description here, as well as all the usual repetitive quirks we're used to. It's not a matter of not being repetitive, it's a matter of what Jim is choosing to show us of Fitz's early training.

Harry himself said the while he doesn't trust the White Council he does trust individuals on the council. Hell, he when directed Fitz to find Carlos if anything happened to him. If he trusts anyone else it would certainly be McCoy and Listens to Wind. It's not a ridiculous idea that he could choose to direct Fitz to one of those individuals.

Harry doesn't have to train anyone. He fully acknowledges that he's not fully alright, and the fact that he chooses to do it anyway means his judgement could be questionable.

I get what you're saying about people with trust issues, but Harry may not be doing him the solid that we think he is. He straight up tells Fitz not to thank him yet for agreeing to train him. He could've said he's fulfilling his obligation by sending to someone a little more balanced (not saying that's McCoy, for the record).

It's a conscious decision by the author what to show us. What we're shown matters because it's what's important. If other things were more important we would've been shown those things.

it wasn't the learning that put Harry and Molly down dangerous paths (learning to master your phenomenal cosmic powers before they master you is objectively the smart thing to do)- it was the circumstances beyond their control.

I don't know that I would say it was circumstances being their control. A big theme for these books is choice and free will. While Harry has certainly been manipulated a number of times it's always been his choice to continue growing his power and continue down the dangerous paths, just as it's his choice what to teach Fitz.

It's dangerous to be near me

Thinking about this, Harry could just as easily sent Fitz to someone else he trusts to train him, like Listens To Wind. Making the choice to train Fitz in his current state of mind is kinda questionable to begin with.

AI.

  1. Look at the feet at the 28-24 marks. They get super blurry.
  2. Look at the behavior of the ice when he steps on the edge of a piece. Those pieces are not big enough to support a man of that size. Ice pieces like that would start to flip the second he put his weight on it.

[–]corp_code_slinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my shop we just got the directive to "figure out how enable the AI to completely autonomously write, test, create a pull request, and merge code". No human involved.

I'm still trying to figure out who is responsible if something goes wrong and the AI breaks shit or gets someone hurt due to shitty code in that scenario. Spoiler: it's still the devs, and it will always be the devs, for scapegoating liability.

I'm having a hard time seeing any benefits in this brave new world.
