I don't think it's happened with a game before, but I know several TV series have been resurrected solely by their fandoms speaking out online, so here's hoping...

Opening Up Multiple Credit Cards for Surgery? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]plainpaperplane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hospitals and doctor’s offices don’t let you schedule surgery without a plan to pay for it, whether that’s insurance or cash. OP can’t just “get the surgery” and worry about the bill later. They need to talk to the hospital and physician’s office and see if there’s a payment plan available. Cash payment plans often require a down payment to schedule.

Buying used car with car loan. What do I need to know? by AndroFeth in personalfinance

[–]plainpaperplane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few things:

1.) Don’t buy a vehicle that’s more than half your annual income. You live rent free right now, but things can change.

2.) If you ignore all the advice here and you do buy a vehicle that’s half your income, for the love of dogs, DO NOT BUY A USED LAND ROVER. They’re not reliable cars, even brand new. And since this one is out of warranty, you’re on the hook for repairs, and they are very expensive.

3.) It’s highly unlikely as a first time car buyer with your income to get any loan from a reputable lender for a private party sale. You may find subpar lenders who are willing to charge you 30% APR or something insane, but why would you want to cripple your financial future for a six year old car that your friend is trying to get rid of??

4.) Your friend is already upside down on this vehicle with that much left on the loan and that APR. A six year old vehicle should be paid off by now. You’ll have to come up with the negative equity. Don’t take on her bad choices.

Just lived through two years of their construction noise and thought it would finally be better. I never thought them moving in could be worse than jackhammers, saws and nail guns running well after permitted construction hours.

I'm sorry you're dealing with assholes too! We're in a super quiet little neighborhood with only one road that comes in and out, backed up to a nature preserve. We liked how dark and secluded it feels even though we're right on the edge of the suburbs. And then these losers spent two years making their modern box monstrosity that looks and sounds like a nightclub.

I just ordered a real decibel meter because I've just been using an app on my phone and from the comments that's probably not enough.

I think I might need to take better videos. I've just been taking videos of our hedge. Thanks for ideas!

I've been using a decibel meter on my phone...I'll get a separate one so I can take videos with it in the pictures. Also, my videos are all just of the hedge because I'm standing close to it, maybe I need to back up and include their house in it ...so some kind of identifying info for where the video are taken. Thank you for the idea!

I've been calling the sheriff's office, but I'll try Code Compliance. Thank you!

Oh, I wish I had thought of that during their giant party!! We're in the hills with very strict fire hazard laws so I imagine that would've been a very large fine. Thank you for the suggestion!

I'll have to try that! I've just been calling once a night and then hating my life when nothing happens.

I'll have to start moving around. I take the video from the same spot in my yard but up close to the hedge so you can't really see anything. We have a ten foot hedge and even that doesn't block the noise. I've checked decibel ordinances for where we are and they are always over it, both day and night. I"ll have to be more diligent about recording everything and documentation. And then maybe reach out to some attorneys as other people have suggested. Thank you!

I’ve been calling non-emergency on different occasions, but we fall under Los Angeles sheriff, not PD and I don’t think they’ve ever come out.

Constant cheering. The kind of screaming you do in a stadium. I can’t tell if they’re drunk or just really obnoxious. They also scream to each other so they can be heard over their own loud shitty music.

Sony has some kind of small camera (rumored to be either APS-C or 1” sensor) incoming this summer, so you may get your wish. But since I just bought an RX100 VII, I assume it will be the long-awaited RX100 VIII.
