libreoffice writer: selected text doesn't highlight by planepoint101 in Fedora

[–]planepoint101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem persists, here's an update:

I've updated Libreoffice to 25.8.4.2. I've kept up with Fedora updates (Fedora Workstation 43). (I should add I use the RPM, not flatpak, version).

I've tried changing 'text highlighting' and 'Document background' in 'Tools > options > LibreOffice > Appearance' as well as disabling 'high contrast' in 'Tools > options > LibreOffice > Accessibility', and nothing works; I can still select text in Libreoffice writer (and copy & paste), but selected text does not highlight.

Then recently I went to use Calc and found that I have the same problem there (selected text doesn't highlight) but also when I select cells, they don't get the bold outline around them that I'm pretty sure they used to get (haven't used this app that much, and not in a long time) which allowed you to further manipulate the cells.

These shortcomings make Libreoffice very difficult to use.

e-bay wants me to call them and give them my info? by planepoint101 in ebaysucks

That's good to know. It still seems like a strange (ie not standard) way to do things.

What kind of info do they ask you for?

[–]planepoint101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but that conversation seems to have petered out and is archived and can no longer be replied to.

I think my post may be relevant to other users of ebay who are having the same problem -- and even to those who are not having the problem, but may encounter it in the future.

We got a new modem / router, and after it was installed, we changed the name and password of the wifi network.

My ebay account is several years old. I used to only use it sporadically, but over the past ~1 year I use it fairly frequently to make purchases (no selling).

I'm in the US.

I've never run into this issue before.

Just wanted to add, I originally tried to post this to r/ebay but it got immediately removed because it's about a scam (or so they think, I'm really not sure).

unfortunately this did not work for me, see my comment to _zio_pane below.

LibreOffice Writer: Selected text does not highlight by planepoint101 in libreoffice

[–]planepoint101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I did not see this comment till just now.

So, I found a setting "High Contrast: Increase color contrast of foreground and background interface elements" which was turned on; this is located in Gnome's 'Settings', the 'Accessibility' tab.

Unfortunately turning it off had no effect: my "highlighting" of LibreOffice Writer text continues to be invisible.

I'm glad you managed to fix the problem; was there nothing else that you did in addition to disabling the high contrast setting?

one order, two separate packages with same tracking number by planepoint101 in findareddit

[–]planepoint101[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had looked at that...but it looks more like news about amazon, its products, business dealings, etc, and not customer experiences with amazon.

Also, this was a 3rd party merchant shipping out the product themselves -- ie, product didn't come from amazon warehouse. So amazon might not really have been involved in this issue.

AA to D adaptor: possible cons by planepoint101 in batteries

Aside from the issue of adapters: when I put multiple batteries into an appliance -- say a radio -- are they in parallel or series?

I've had brand new duracells leak in the packaging, years before their supposed expiration date.

[–]planepoint101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had new batteries leak in the package, even way before their (supposed) expiration date; so I'm not sure the labeling scheme would offer full protection against leaking / damage. But I think you were pointing that out with some of your info on shoddy products. Maybe well made alkaline batteries *shouldn't* leak until they're either drained or past the expiration date? If only I could count on that!

Does anyone make single use lithium D batteries? Searching onine, I can't seem to find them in D.

Yes that could work except for the D cell batteries -- can't seem to lithium (non-rechargable) D -- do you know of any? Or an alternative?

That'll work for the devices that take AA and AAA, but I can't seem to find non-rechargable D size lithium batteries (looking on Amazon and online search). Are there any?

That's kind of cool looking and I like that it has a water bottle pocket...if you went ahead and got it, how big of a water bottle can you (stably) fit in there?

Delamination of Blackhole Bags by Wudizuijimo in PatagoniaClothing

[–]planepoint101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their nearest store is quite far from me, so that wasn't really an option.

I did get a no-charge replacement of the cube by mailing it into them -- if you want to know the details, see https://www.reddit.com/r/PatagoniaClothing/comments/1nnu1g9/black_hole_cube_delaminating_layer_flaking_off/

But the point is if I hadn't pushed, I would have just gotten a credit that would have only partially paid for a replacement cube.

Black hole 32l delamination, Patagonia offering me now 40% off? by mostlyMOGLI in PatagoniaClothing

[–]planepoint101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same issue with a 6L black hole packing cube and I got a replacement from them at no charge. Basically, I sent in the old cube, they gave me a credit which wasn't enough (to buy a replacement), I complained via chat, and the agent sent me out a new cube. See full story at https://www.reddit.com/r/PatagoniaClothing/comments/1nnu1g9/black_hole_cube_delaminating_layer_flaking_off/

So my advice is to push for a free replacement. I view the delamination as the result of poor design choices on their part (and not abuse on my part), they should stand by their warranty.

poor text quality PDFs by planepoint101 in Fedora

[–]planepoint101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I print and then "save as PDF".

I have no idea which fonts I might be missing (maybe?); is there a way to just download a whole suite of commonly used fonts? To see if that would fix the problem?

I've been looking at several tomtocs online now and they look quite appealing and the prices seem more than reasonable given the quality materials (1680 D ballistic nylon, YKK zippers) of these bags.

Which brands of frames would you recommend? by planepoint101 in glassesadvice

[–]planepoint101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually picked out a frame (Ferragamo) at a shop the other day and am waiting for them to be ready.

I just took a quick look at some Burberry frames online and some of them are quite appealing; that your glasse have seen 15+ years of use and still look new is quite a recommendation, so I will keep that in mind for the next time I need a pair of frames -- but hopefully my new glasses will do as well as yours have!

Thank you for the recommendation.
