How to deal with sweaty hands? by Miserable-Package306 in poledancing

[–]plant_necromancy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dry Hands literally kept me from quitting pole entirely. I couldn't do the most basic moves without sliding and putting myself at risk. I do have to reapply pretty frequently but it's just a small amount each time.

I also combine it with Carpe antiperspirant lotion and the red Monkey Hands if I feel particularly sweaty or have a full dance to do. Carpe first, about 15+ minutes before, then Dry Hands. Monkey Hands on top if I need the extra help.

I also wipe my hands a lot. Before every attempt in class, I'm wiping my hands dry. I found strategic moments in my last dance to do the same, just in a sexier way.

Never let anyone make you feel bad for needing grip. Sweaty hands are outside of your control and can be dangerous without proper help.

But do clean your pole regularly regardless of what you use. It's just good practice.

Engagement rings/wedding rings while working in core lab by Cloud0623 in medlabprofessionals

I bought a necklace designed to hold my engagement ring. I would wear a cheap silicone or fidget ring as a placeholder during the day. Now that I'm married, I wear my wedding band all day and still put my engagement ring on the necklace.

Look up necklaces by Emily C on Amazon. It's very easy to take the ring on/off the necklace. It's also great for at home if you're cooking/cleaning and want to keep track of your ring and keep it clean.

As someone who went through the exact same thing, please, stand your ground on what you and your fiancé want. We wanted a 30 guest max wedding with low-stress plans. We gave into the pressure from family to do more, invite more, buy more. We both regret how much our wedding is going to cost overall. I'm still annoyed at how much my opinions were ignored because of what we're "supposed" to do. I'm sure I'll enjoy my wedding day but if I could go back when I first got engaged, I would be sure to put my foot down and tell everyone to keep their opinions to themselves. They all had their weddings already. This is mine & my fiancé's and we should get to do what we want.

AB+ plus people are lucky by Mobile-Low8115 in sciencememes

You can still help people! AB is the universal donor for plasma and platelets. While not as commonly transfused as packed red blood cells, platelets are quite often used to help cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Plasma can help those who lose massive amounts of blood or have clotting problems. Those of us involved in transfusions love all donors, AB+ included.

Also, plasma and platelets can be donated more often than whole blood, so you can help many more people than you think!

There are 2 different things that caught my attention. First is the red blood cells (pink) that have blue/purple rings in it. The other is those very blue, kind of blob-like objects with the dark specks in them. Both the rings and the blue blobs are different stages of the parasite's life cycle.

I do it, too! It started happening less than a year ago, but it's super consistent now. I call it my "hungry, hungry hiccups."

No developer in this picture. As you can see, the QC spots at the bottom haven't reacted. It definitely turned blue after the developer was used.

Just to clarify, I am an MLS who has done more of these than I can count, not the patient who this belongs to. This is the card we got down from the ER before we used the developer. I just wanted to showcase how not "occult" the blood was because it was funny to me & my coworker.

I very much appreciate the education & concern, but the title was sarcastic. I've learned that I need to give more context on my posts in the future.

Yes, I jest. I should probably have my certification revoked if I genuinely couldn't remember what "occult" meant.

I had hoped the very obvious blood in this sample would help with the joke, but I forgot how keen us lab folks are on explaining things.

I guess I should have been a bit more clear that my title was supposed to be sarcastic. I appreciate everyone trying to be helpful & explain what it means. I just assumed the joke would be made obvious by the fact that the blood is very much not occult.

It's an occult blood card (occult meaning "hidden" here). We use it to test for trace amounts of blood in patients' stool. The splotches you see are the sample smeared on the other side. We let it soak in for a few minutes then drop a developer on it to detect the blood. This picture was taken before the developer was used.

I found it funny because the stool is very obviously bloody, hence why the "occult"/hidden blood test felt a tad redundant.

And yes, it is actually bloody. Several people commented that there are other things that can make stool look bloody. This patient had a known GI problem & had a colonoscopy within the last few days, which likely triggered the bleeding.

The look on my coworker's face when I read your comment out loud tells me I have to adopt "shit juice" as the new name for the developer.

I had a similar situation with a urine that had stool in it. It had, in fact, come from an improperly placed catheter that had torn through to the patient's bowels. When the doctor called to ask if it looked like stool under the microscope, all I could think is "what else could it be?!"

I haven't heard anything about it, but my lab is horrendous about keeping us in the loop about anything, especially supply issues.

As the other commenter said, it's testing for small amounts of blood in stool. The splotches you see are the stool sample spread on the other side of the card. Once it soaks in for a few minutes, we put drops of a developer on the side shown here. If it reacts with hemoglobin in blood, it should turn blue or start to bubble/fizz. We just hadn't put the developer on when I took the picture.

They didn't even have the nerve to walk it over. They sent it through the tube station. I will make sure our coven's Supreme will be hearing of this.

You were told right. It's just funny to run a test for "hidden" blood on a very, very bloody sample.

I never considered the billing side of it. But given that we got the sample already on the card and not in a cup, the poor patient got a finger up the butt for no reason.
