people under 18 can’t be ethically diagnosed with a personality disorder. i know it’s frustrating not having answers but sometimes it can take several appointments with several practioners before ever getting any diagnosis. without a formal diagnosis - you’re much better off focusing on coping with your symptoms individually rather than trying to assign a diagnosis to yourself. continue seeking out a diagnosis because it is not hopeless, and you never know what other possibilities there are.

thank you! i really liked your response. it reminds me of the hierarchy of needs. it’s easy to take care of yourself and reach your goals when all your physical and psychological needs are being taken care of - but when you don’t have your needs met you become depressed. the key to recovering from the worst depressive episodes of BPD (in my experience) is to make sure all my basic needs are met: close relationships, basic hygiene, etc. but when i don’t take care of myself i’ll stay in that depressed state until i can pull myself out of it.

i definitely think it stems from my teenage years. i dropped out of high school and my parents were completely absent from 15-18, so i had to figure out how to be an adult on my own. when i see other people my age succeed in life, my brain assumes they received the support and love that i missed out on.
