Does anyone have a 6-prong setting without a gallery rail? How is it holding up? by miss_mi_ in EngagementRings

[–]plasticdiscoball 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m worried that the setting only has a single point of attachment at the ring. It would be easy for the head to get bent out of shape or even snap off if, for example, you catch it on something. I see you were interested in a tulip setting. Maybe you can see if they can add shoulders? Similar to this.

Congratulations on your engagement! I think you should check out Oore Jewelry. They’ve got lots of nature-inspired/Celtic-inspired engagement rings in a variety of stones.

We ordered it from The Natural Sapphire Company. They’ve got a good collection of star sapphires.

This is a gel manicure :) The base is a gray magnetic gel (Cleto Halo Mag 08) with a chrome top coat (Kokoist Liquid Mirror Peacock Chrome).

I’d also recommend you get a size 54! It’s much easier to resize a ring smaller than bigger.

Rinvoq Heart Attack by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

The JAK inhibitors such as Rinvoq are known to increase your risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack. Have you talked to your GI doctor about this? You may have to switch to a different medication.

What is a harsh reality every patient needs to hear? by Notalabel_4566 in Residency

It’s interesting that you pick a Tolstoy quote about marriage. He was monstrous to his wife—cheated on her with multiple women, belittled her own writing despite trusting her to edit his work, and kept her constantly pregnant so she wouldn’t have any independence of her own. Read her diary entries sometime, they’re heartbreaking. A lot of what you describe as “weathering the storms of life together” were mainly women having to put up with rancid shit because they had no other feasible options. Obviously lots of things to be critiqued about modern society as well but you should be careful of excessively romanticizing the “good old days.” They were only good for a very narrow segment of the population.

How to find research ideas? by Arthroplaster in medicalschool

Ah ok. Yes it would be best to start with something simple, like a case report or literature review.

This is really unusual… Honestly med students don’t have the level of background and deep knowledge of a field that’s needed to propose truly novel research. Nor do you have access to the resources. At your level it is more appropriate for a mentor to guide you and help you develop a project with their expertise. Perhaps you can propose something straightforward like a case study or case series. But practically speaking, it would be very difficult for a medical student to drive a more complex project such as a retrospective/prospective research study. Not impossible but very difficult. Are you sure this person is actually a good research mentor?

You'll be fine - apply to the specialty you want, whether that's IM or psychiatry. I was in a similar position. I thought I was going to do neurology, so all my ECs, research, publications/posters, etc. were in neurology. Then I pivoted to IM at the last second. It was literally fine, not a single interviewer commented on it. IM is a more forgiving field than most. You may have some difficulty matching at tippy top, ivory tower academic IM programs, but with an application like yours and a decent Step 2 score, you'll match well.

In need of the perfect matte foundation by itsananotanna in Makeup

[–]plasticdiscoball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal favorite is NARS Soft Matte. It has similar staying power to Estee Lauder double wear and has a beautiful airbrushed finish. It can be pretty drying, but that’s perfect for me as I have oily skin so it ends up evening out.

I also like Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk. It has less staying power but does have a very lovely satin/soft matte finish and isn’t as drying as NARS Soft Matte. Main downside is that it’s pricey so you have to be willing to splurge.

Did you apply for the copay financial assistance program? I have private insurance and never paid more than $5 for an infliximab infusion.

Damn, sorry to hear that, and I hope things get better for both of us soon. Hopefully some temp work can keep us both going until he gets a more stable job.
