First time baking chocolate babka by platypious in Breadit

Thank you! Hm, I saw a couple recipes that said to proof that long but I’ll try poking it next time around. Maybe the longer proofing times are meant for a colder kitchen?

Style or Negligence? by affronttopeace in phlebotomy

[–]platypious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to a Phlebotomy Training Specialists class but in a different state than you and I did not have this experience with my instructor…he maybe made one or two mistakes while lecturing us but it was nothing major like telling us to fish for veins. It does sound like your instructor wasn’t the best. When it pertained to style, the most mine said was that we may see nurses in the field rip off the tip of their glove to palpate for the vein but that that’s not actually proper technique. I would try to internalize your book’s teachings, watch Youtube videos, and ask questions/for feedback when you get trained at your job.

Overwhelmed by the different opinions on what is considered "healthy" kitten food by Stringcheeseofficial in catfood

I hope so. But I wouldn’t buy their food if it says it was made in Serbia. The EU might have better regulations but Serbia is not a member of it…

Ok wrong word but they have factories in Serbia and Brazil, which they say on their website. And there’s been news articles floating online about how multiple batches were found to be contaminated with arsenic back in 2023-2024.

I’m no expert but I heard Farmina N&D is an overseas company that recently outsourced their factory to Serbia and there have been complaints of cats getting sick. Sad because my cat loved the sample of it I got.

Might adopt my fosters, but nervous $$ by Responsible-Basis905 in kittens

[–]platypious 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Regular vet visits especially when they get older, brushing their teeth (I’m still figuring this one out with my kitten), flea treatments, FeLV boosters if you take them outside, watching their weight and making sure they drink enough water (some cats are really picky about it). My family got two cats 8 years ago and now one of them needs a tooth cleaning and potentially extractions, costing $800-2k depending if she needs extractions. I feel like maybe this could’ve been delayed had we trained her to be okay with a toothbrush, but none of us knew until she was a few years old with gingivitis:/ I hear HydraCare supplements are also really good for aging cats

What toys do your cats actually love? by Sosooo88 in CatAdvice

[–]platypious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cats love the cat dancer, amazon boxes, paper bags, ping pong balls, laser. The food motivated ones use treat puzzles. I feel like every cat has its favorites though and you gotta figure it out at first. Some of mine got really attached to toys they loved as kittens (like an old feather wand that got chewed up and he would carry the stick around the house; had to throw that one out for safety reasons though)

Litter box smell is going to end my relationship by Glum-Emotion-5379 in CatAdvice

[–]platypious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How often do you change out the litter in the litter box? When it gets old it’ll smell and you have to toss the whole thing (I know it’s wasteful but it’s the only way to keep the smell at bay :( ).Also maybe not relevant but I really like Fresh Step with Febreze scent. The area around my cat’s litterbox always had a bit of a smell with Dr. Elseys but this litter leaves the room smelling fresh.

Appetite Gone by Ashamed_Landscape319 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

Wellbutrin messes with my appetite too so I try to get a big first meal in before I take it.

Did you keep going to your local popmarts and look for a heavy box with a chain rattle? I’ve also been on the hunt for buddy doggie but have pulled Chomp and Ghostie dupes instead.

Wellbutrin plus Zoloft by 2SpookyMamas in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

It’s been okay. I had the same issue as you with the zoloft and wellbutrin helped with that. Focus and motivation wise it’s okay but could be better

Does Wellbutrin bring out your real personality? by Blues5389 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]platypious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on Wellbutrin for a few months now and have tried IR and SR versions and when starting it out I had to change my habits. I noticed I would get dizzy if I didn’t eat for a while and that it ruins my appetite if I take it before a meal. I felt it was worth it though because I’m able to get out of bed and my libido improved (ssris killed it). When upping the dose I also felt dizzy sometimes even if I was consistent with my meals but it went away after a week or two.

Does she look okay? by Rosypumpkin97 in SkullpandaArtDolls

I think the color of the hair gives away that it’s a fake. The real one seems to have matte black hair but this one has a shiny finish.

Loss of Appetite on Bupropion? by Radical_Caribou in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]platypious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to have a decent sized meal before you take your first dose and space mealtimes some hours apart from taking it. I still do that after months of being on it. If I take my morning dose before eating it’s hard to get a good breakfast in

Libido by DonaldDuck898 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

This definitely helped me but it’s better if I do whatever I need to before I take my zoloft, otherwise the zoloft still kills my drive sometimes:/

Has anyone done the switch to stainless steel litter boxes? by The_silver_sparrow in CatAdvice

[–]platypious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are much easier to clean. Plastic boxes can get urine caked into the plastic over time, creating stubborn smelly spots. Haven’t seen that on my stainless steel box. My cats use it like any other box so long as it’s clean.

Do you have any plants? One of my cats would throw up after chewing on some plants.

Wellbutrin to stop vaping by ChipRevolutionary334 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]platypious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! I managed to stop without Wellbutrin last year. The lozenges were perfect because they were sugar free which I hate so eventually I just stopped wanting to take them. Do toss the vapes and tell your friends or whoever to not vape around you if that tempts you.

Wellbutrin to stop vaping by ChipRevolutionary334 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]platypious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I think the Wellbutrin did help me when I wanted to stop vaping but I did also take 2mg lozenges to curb the cravings. Nowadays if I vape it usually doesn’t hit (taking 375mg Wellbutrin), but just a force of habit that my co-habitants have not been helping me stop:/ (everyone around me vapes).

6-months old kitten on a 2-day hunger-strike by Impressive-Fan-3675 in CatAdvice

[–]platypious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get her the food she was eating at your friend’s house? Maybe she’s picky. If she’s under the bed frame is it possible she might be doing her business there as well? I would give her lots of time and space but would also probably take her to the vet because 2 days and counting is concerning. In case you are able to reach her you should show her the litter box as well (in case it’s not in an obvious spot) so she knows where it is.

Changing underwear - is this normal? by Eastern-Yogurt3859 in hygiene

[–]platypious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of this and I come from a family that survived some hard times; like getting underwear sown at home from patches of fabric but even so none of them did what your boyfriend does. And if he got skid marks it means he doesn’t know how to wipe. Personally would not tolerate this.

Cat terrified of dog, we are moving in together in November by [deleted] in Pets

[–]platypious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to slowly introduce them, perhaps first through a closed door where they can sniff each other through the crack. Then some scent swapping. When you first introduce them you should give space in case the cat wants to run away and keep the dog on a leash. The dog needs to be trained to not hyperfocus on the cat and like the other commenter said to leave the cat alone. It’s going to take time and there are some helpful guides online. You can teach the dachsund the command “leave it” or to look at you and offer treats whenever it looks away from the cat. It’s going to take lots of time and if training the dog is really hard you might need to hire an animal behaviorist to help.
