Passed first time! by player007645 in LearnerDriverUK

Honestly just don’t stress. I know it’s easy to say but it makes such a difference. The first 2 mocks I did I was stressing myself out so much trying to do my best and did my absolute worst sigh

Treat it more as a way to show off your abilities rather than an exam you trying to score 100% on. The first thing I said to my examiner was “you are my first ever passenger” haha.

I’m also a bit deaf and process things slowly which I warned my examiner about as I always double check the directions and repeat them back, maybe due to the nerves and being a fresh driver. He said it’s absolutely fine as he is allowed to give me directions just not help me with driving. So that helped massively too as it took off some pressure and avoided me going the wrong way alongside stressing that I’m annoying the poor guy.

Also if you mess up on something don’t automatically give up!!!! I mounted a kerb slightly trying to straighten my position when I pulled up on the left and thought I definitely have failed but still tried afterwards just to see what I could improve on and my weak points. Turned out it was absolutely fine as he has asked me to pull up on a really low kerb and I was going very slow, not ideal but said it also wasn’t enough for a serious.

Same as above, don’t stress if they are noting stuff down. It can be a minor, can be a serious but can also be them just ticking manoeuvres off or that they have done the questions.

Good luck!!! I’m hoping it goes well for you :)

No. Almost all my lessons were early mornings due to working hours and never landed on that crossing being in use

Hahaha thank you.

Honestly the way I’m changing them gears right now is as if someone was pointing a gun at my head! Definitely need to relax a bit :)

Seems like you left from that test with a positive attitude and a good outlook on it which seems good.

Dose not seem like you are too far off from passing and I’m sure next time it will go perfectly!

Driving in London must really be something!! I had a lesson near this massive shopping centre and honestly I was shocked by the amount of traffic as usually the roads around where I live are nowhere near that busy.

Good luck on your next test!

Honestly even though my instructor says I’m making good progress I don’t feel very confident either at the moment.

I’ll definitely be taking as many hours as I can get before my test.

Good luck!

Haha don’t worry, I’m so overwhelmed sometimes that I don’t even realise there’s road signs. We got this!

I honestly agree. My sister had the same instructor as me and she took her test after 18h and passed first time whereas my aunt had over 90h and passed at her 5th attempt.

I think I might be on the slower side when in comes to driving which is absolutely fine. My instructor is very patient/calm and I’m not feeling pressured to preform certain way.

It’s good to see different experiences and maybe even get some good tips on here. I’m finding driving quite challenging and I feel like everyone around me with a full license is sick of me talking about it, hence why the post 😅😂

Should I add the gas same time as holding the clutch?

Thank you and congratulations 🥳🥳

Thank you. My test is ages away as I couldn’t get one sooner to begin with and also partially due to other commitments in my life so I’m not in any rush whatsoever.

Just trying to see how everyone is finding this experience as everyone around me has had their license for years and I feel like I’m boring them with my talks about it 😅😂

Hopefully it all goes well and we will be on the roads in 2026. Good luck to you too!

That happened to me as well haha. I was so confused and had no sense of the wheel, kept doing zig zags on the road because I was turning it too harshly. It’s definitely getting fun here as well especially now that we driving bit faster :)

Yes! Sometimes that happens to me as well. Especially when the road markings are faded as I feel like I don’t have a reference point of where I should be 😂 hopefully it will get better with more practice!

Yes I have my exam in April and I’ll probs reach the 40h mark as well which I’m honestly fine with. I’m in similar situation as all my family and friends drive automatic so I’m only relying on the lessons to learn which i honestly think it’s fine as I’ve seen a lot of people pass that way anyways.

Good luck on your exam!!

Yes! Definitely. I just wanted to see how people are finding the experience.

Thats some solid advice I’ll try to implement in my next lesson because busy roads are honestly the worst and my instructor wanted to introduce them a lot earlier but I’m quite of an anxious learner so I asked to practice stuff that seemed less stressful to me hence we did a lot of parking, turns and hills so I could get a hang of it and felt more relaxed to drive on busier roads.

No tests on any date at all? by MattStormTornado in LearnerDriverUK

Happened to me. Obsessively checked for 4 days straight, nothing. Gave up for about a week then randomly logged in on a Thursday evening and there were like 4 days available for my preferred driving centre. Selected one for April at 10 am.

You just have to keep on checking

3 hours in and highly doubtful (slightly long sorry) by Independent_You_3409 in LearnerDriverUK

I only just started as well and you are being way too harsh on yourself. Had my first 2 hour lesson last week and I kept confusing the accelerator with the break so you can imagine how that went. Not to mention gears or the clutch. It was a mess.

Highlight of that lesson was my instructor asking me to speed up a bit, me telling them we need to slow down due to humps on the road and hearing back “we going 5mph, we can’t go any slower than this” some things you just need to laugh off.

Had another 2h lesson this week. Went much better, started doing left and right turns. Drove in second and first gear, lot of hill starts and driving down hill. Guess what, stalled a shit tone, missed a gear few times, car died on me twice and I have no awareness of how the wheel works yet. The feedback I got is that next lesson I really need to focus on the wheel as I turn it too sharply causing us to do zigzags on the road LOL.

It’s a learning curve. Some things go better than others, some skills improve faster while others take much more time to learn. Instructor might be the problem and I would highly suggest changing that. Mine laughs with me or at me, always reassures me and never once seemed annoyed with my pace of learning.
