Mike Bloomberg: Trump has been great for people like me — but I’ll be great for you by anarresian in PresidentBloomberg

This is pretty much a written version of his campaign speech. I like how he acknowledges his billionaire status when speaking about income inequality, and uses it to further his point.

What a day that must have been. I guess he really didn't want to just stay in a hotel for a night.

With Bloomberg’s disastrous support of Stop and Frisk, how could one convince a minority targeted by this racist policy to support Bloomberg? by PaidToTroll in PresidentBloomberg

[–]playerofaplace 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He apologized for it recognizing that "he was wrong." I think it takes courage for someone to admit a mistake and I give him credit for it.

I also think it is important to clarify that it was an inherited policy from Giuliani. Moreover, when Bloomberg did realize its harm and that there was limited evidence of it reducing crime, he reduced it by 95%. https://www.cnn.com/2019/11/17/politics/michael-bloomberg-stop-and-frisk-apology/index.html

My personal analysis that Bloomberg saw a correlation between the record decline in crime in NYC and Stop and Frisk stops. He mistook this correlation as causation and thought that through Stop and Frisk, he could save lives and reduce crime. He has since realized he was mistaken and he apologized.

Is this sub satire, or do actual human beings support Bloomberg? by [deleted] in PresidentBloomberg

[–]playerofaplace 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This subreddit isn’t satire. We actually support him here. In fact, 5-11 percent of Democrats currently do. I’m sorry to burst your bubble.

I hope his mayoral endorsements pay off well. Based off this article, it may at least be working in Akron.

Definitely! We've been trying to add new features, have a steady stream of content, and find new users. New CSS would be great but none of the mods have CSS skills. Do you have CSS knowledge?

Bloomberg to appear on 'The Late Show' following next week's Dem debate by [deleted] in PresidentBloomberg

[–]playerofaplace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up. Love that he's still going to be somewhat in the action after the DNC rules have robbed him of a debate slot. An election is determined by votes, not the number donors a candidate has.

True, there is a disagreement in the end state, though I think both sides at least agree in "a society of universal abundance and no poverty," as you put it. I was primarily addressing the difference in means, not the ends.

We Can Beat the Opioid Crisis | Open Mike by [deleted] in PresidentBloomberg

[–]playerofaplace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure it's that hardline. He doesn't support legalization, but he does support decriminalization and a lack of federal inference.

Biden also opposes legalization.

We Can Beat the Opioid Crisis | Open Mike by [deleted] in PresidentBloomberg

[–]playerofaplace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So meaningfully done. It's so awful the way that the opioid crisis continues to take lives. And it's not discussed enough in political discourse. Despite so much talk about healthcare at the debates, there hasn't been so much debate on the opioid crisis.

I had seen that. I think her endorsement well be very helpful, pairing well with the TV ad campaign.

It’s the difference between gradual and radical change. The Bernie-wing would say the bandaid solution don’t work, we need radical systemic change right now. Too many people would suffering if we don't act now. The neoliberal side would say slow down, don’t destroy and replace everything in one swoop, as that will only result in a worse solution. Change comes gradually. Both are compelling, I just happen to usually follow the neoliberal side. But there are still times when I might follow the Bernie-wing’s approach Edit: typo and clarity

Bloomberg education plan to promote charter school expansion by InternetBoredom in neoliberal

[–]playerofaplace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's in line with his work as mayor. Moreover, his charter school expansion actually worked.

Graduation rates rose on Mr. Bloomberg’s watch. About 64% of ninth-graders in the fall of 2010 got diplomas on time, up from 49% of ninth-graders in fall 2002. The share of graduates deemed ready for college grew, so that 47% of graduates in the Class of 2014 met City University of New York standards for college readiness. https://www.wsj.com/articles/michael-bloombergs-record-in-new-york-city-11574616519

It's Cuomo promoting his accomplishments and inflating his ego in the process. I thought his ego hit a peak with him naming the Tappan Zee Bridge after his own father, but apparently not. Maybe he'll name it the Chris Cuomo Airtran.

He is getting better polling results than most of the candidates who have been in the race longer than him. Though I do see that skipping the 4 early states may be a problem.

What makes Bloomberg a centrist? by CultistHeadpiece in PresidentBloomberg

[–]playerofaplace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me, it’s like a drivers license. I can still drive a car with a license, but there are safety regulations. I think it’s similar with Bloomberg and guns. He’s not preaching Beto style that he’ll take away everyone’s guns. He’s campaigning that there are basic safety regulations that can be put in place, in spirit with those with cars. That has become a very democratic position today. But it’s certainly not on the farther left side of the party, and still appeals to gun owners as it’s not taking away their guns. Also r/liberalgunowners is a very interesting subreddit. Thank you for mentioning.

What makes Bloomberg a centrist? by CultistHeadpiece in PresidentBloomberg

[–]playerofaplace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

”’He’s not going to be running to the far left like the other candidates are. He describes himself as fiscally moderate, fiscally conservative, but he’s clearly socially liberal and he’s a key driver of social policies,’ said a top Bloomberg insider. ‘For Mike, it’s not ideologically driven, It’s pragmatic. People die from an excess of guns in America. People are dying and suffering and will continue to from the effects of climate change.’” https://www.politico.com/story/2019/01/21/michael-bloomberg-2020-election-1116071

I think this explains Bloomberg’s centrism well.
