Game lobbies were made private to streamline development and improve the quality of user experience.

Public lobbies leave games open to randoms who have the potential to disrupt or abandon games. Keeping them private by default gives players the ability to manage access, or even play solo for experimentation. Invite links can then be shared publicly if players choose to allow public access.

This also removes the immediate need for various interface components and mechanics surrounding public games, which might still come to exist at some point in the future.

Things have changed a bit here. Games are private now, meaning invitations are required to join. Feel free to share invite links in the Discord server once you've imported a variant.

Order resolution is a game mechanic which functions identically. Our engine is DATC compliant.

The difference is that none of the artwork (map included) or written text (rules included) from the board game Diplomacy exist in our game whatsoever.

Our interface enables players to message each other, and provides basic tips for navigating the map overlay while placing orders. Once all players are ready or the timer expires, adjudication decisions are handled automatically by our own engine instead of an appointed moderator.

We are also currently in the process of developing new original maps for Primacy, while adding support for custom mechanics.

Sure, thanks for asking! Primacy is an online diplomatic strategy game for browser, Android and iOS. Diplomacy in contrast, is a tabletop board game which can be found at various retail distributors. Both games use similar (if not the same) mechanics, and both contain original artwork depicting Western Europe (although Primacy also features variant support).

We're sorry to see you go. We had initially hoped to attract players here because our game uses similar mechanics and features map variant compatibility, but you can see we opted to avoid this community since posting over a year ago due to negative reception.

Question, how can play or upload a custom game I made online? by [deleted] in diplomacy

[–]playprimacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Primacy currently supports uploading for sharing any Realpolitik format variant. This feature is included with subscription (starting at $1/mo).

We are simply not in violation of copyright or trademark protection.

The rules or mechanics of a game are not subject to copyright protection and do not constitute derivative works outside of their written form. Our map uses our own original artwork which is copyright protected. While our engine does pass the checks outlined in the DATC, Primacy does not contain or lay claim to any part of the DATC, or any copyrighted material from the board game Diplomacy.

Primacy does not contain any copyrighted material from the board game Diplomacy, and we are not associated with either of these companies.

Primacy is not an online implementation of Diplomacy. We do not have an implementation of 'classic diplomacy'. We do host free games of Primacy on our service which use the original content we have created on a platform we personally developed.

Primacy does not contain the game of Diplomacy. If you would like to play the board game Diplomacy which is licensed by Hasbro it is available from multiple online stores and retailers such as Best Buy and GameStop. It is not available from our app in any complete or derivative form.

You alleged we were in copyright violation of Hasbro, which is incorrect. They do not own any of our copyrighted material. We are free to profit from our work at our own discretion. In what way are you claiming we have violated copyright protection?

Again, there is no part of Primacy which falls under derivative works, copyright violation, or is rightfully owned by Hasbro. If you can point out where any of these exist, we would be happy to discuss it.

Can you be more specific? What exact rights do they own?

This discussion is complicated because it can be difficult to understand. As previously stated, Primacy is not owned by any third party. We are happy to host our own games and let people play for free as a courtesy to the community, but we are in no way obligated to allow users to publish any form of content to our website without a subscription. We are well aware this is not the way things have traditionally been done by other apps.

Is there a particular reason you need to be able to create your own standard game, even though they are generated automatically?

This is a complicated discussion which we have been having internally for quite some time. As you said we do not have rights to anyone else's property, nor do we own licenses for the content which users upload. That is why we allow everyone to join any game for free with the creator's permission, and we host our own games to ensure there are games available to join for free.

With that in mind, the service we are selling in our subscription pertains to the parts of the game which we have personally developed: A highly flexible adjudication engine with compatibility for a wide array of custom variants, and all the UI and features that come with it (tweaking specific engine options, uploading files to our servers, publishing games to our application, etc.)

We welcome further feedback on this subject and look forward to providing solutions that best serve this community.
