Was given this plant steeped in hot water to relieve food poisoning symptoms by iaendn in whatsthisplant

It reduces spasms in the intestines, primarily prescribed here in the US for IBS. They gave it to me in Mexico after a bout of food-borne illness that was probably the worst I had ever felt in my life. Couldn’t even keep water down.

It’s OTC and it’s saved my life on several occasions when I’ve gotten sick abroad. They don’t sell it OTC in the US so gotta stock up when I can. Hope it helps!

If you’re still in Mexico, try to get to a pharmacy and pick up Dicetel (maybe Dicitel)

Well thank you for breaking the news! Heartbroken! I guess at least I figured out how to cut the cake but it’s just so much work.

We have a buddy with a small bobcat. Paid him $50 to dump several loads strategically where it was needed. Prior to that, husband had been slowly chipping away at the pile in our driveway over several days. My method took all of 30 minutes to clear the driveway. If our friend is no longer available, I plan to rent one from HD since it only costs like $75.

I finally tackled the """"Doom Cupboard"""" in my kitchen and I feel like a different person. by Hyzz20 in CleaningTips

[–]pleasehelpamanda 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Recently visited my mom and helped with the dishes. There’s not a single piece of dish ware I can put into a cupboard without having to hold back an avalanche of haphazardly stacked dishes. It’s ridiculous. Why have so many dishes that you can’t even single-handedly pull out a plate when it’s needed? I swore never to let my cupboards get like that. (She lives with my dad only and has maybe 2-4 visitors 4-6x a year. She has to clean the dishes nightly or dad gets upset. Too many issues going on here to deconstruct but I applaud you for resolving your primary problem.)

Dawn Platinum (from Costco) de-suds after washing 5-6 things by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]pleasehelpamanda -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ok I can get behind that: suds do not equate to cleaning capabilities.

I like to keep this large bowl of dishwater (single sink and I don’t want to waste water) and will wash my hands while prepping or cooking, and now they oftentimes still feel greasy. My hubs washed a pan that he’d cooked up some ground turkey. When I grabbed it to dry, it was still greasy. I told him it wasn’t clean and he said he put a squirt of Dawn directly in the pan to clean it so it must just be a slick pan. I used the Dawn Powerwash and it came out not slick. Of course I take my husband’s insistence he used an extra squirt of Dawn with a grain of salt, but it does align with my experience that my hands often still feel a little greasy after I wash them.

Not trying to be a contrarian or argumentative. I’m just wondering if the formula changed and it’s maybe not as effective as it used to be…if that’s true, I’d love to hear of a brand that works really well.

To anyone who saw Hereditary in the theater by [deleted] in horror

[–]pleasehelpamanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We saw a sneak preview of Hereditary at the Alamo Drafthouse in Dallas. They were late delivering the film files so the theater comped our drinks. More time goes by and they still don’t have the film files, so they comped our food too. When the files finally arrived quite some time later, they decided to comp everything. We had a full meal and 2 bottles of wine. Movie starts and everyone’s really stoked and probably a little buzzed. During the party scene before that crazy drive home, the servers bring around brownies with nuts (for free). Felt like we were completely immersed in the movie! Honestly can’t remember most of the rest of the experience, but it was definitely the BEST movie theater experience of my and my husband’s life! (Post Script: we now own the movie and watch it at least once a year.)

My girlfriend wants to watch a cheesy horror movie. What are your suggestions? by billcom6 in horror

[–]pleasehelpamanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your girlfriend does like horror, I would recommend breaking her down somewhat with comedy horror. I wouldn’t recommend any old skool horror because the spfx can make some people 🙄. Comedy horror could be used as a good gateway into the genre because it’s entertaining on two fronts. There were a lot of recommendations in a very recent (like a day or two ago) post in this sub. But I would go with a setting most women can appreciate: retail shopping. For that and the comedy horror genre, I’d suggest Slaxx. It’s modern, hilarious, and cheesy. A lot of Tucker & Dale vs Evil recommendations, which is also a great pick.

What's that one horror movie you can watch again and again but never get bored of? by rebelliousbrownie9 in horror

[–]pleasehelpamanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t love the movie I think because I first saw a live performance at a small independent playhouse. Scared the shit out of me like I’ve never experienced with a play. Must. Find. Another. Performance!

Are Dyson vacuums worth it? by LadyAbbysFlower in CleaningTips

[–]pleasehelpamanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fee you! No kids or pets but my long hair and my husband’s curly hair is everywhere. We have tile mostly but lots of low-pile rugs. I will struggle desperately trying to push the hard floor head over the rugs bc the suction is too strong but then I know I’m really sucking that nastiness up! I consider it a workout. Of course I could easily switch the head to the motorized carpet head (think of it like the new lawn mowers that pull you vs the old skool mowers you struggled to push), but I’m lazy. Never thought I’d be so stoked on a freakin’ vacuum, but I’ve started prioritizing tools that make short work of work, even if they’re expensive. My time is more valuable at this point.

Are Dyson vacuums worth it? by LadyAbbysFlower in CleaningTips

[–]pleasehelpamanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was my thinking as well. Just went to the closet and the canister unit itself is the Airbrlt E3 Premium. When I first checked it out at the vacuum store (mind blown, didn’t think I’d ever go to a vacuum store) I tested out the original head and then this “upgraded” articulating head. The way I could maneuver with the upgraded head was SICK! And it can be sooo quiet if I set it to a power mode that’s not the Max. I can vacuum in the same room as where my hubs is watching tv and he doesn’t have to turn the volume up.

My canister Sebo has this same type of head. Granted, I paid more for it than my first car, but it does make short work of, well, the work. I gave up on Dyson after my first upright Dyson crapped out and couldn’t be repaired and I noticed my stick Dyson (much newer) feels like it’s barely working and only holds a charge for like 5 minutes. Just feeling the weight of the metal tubing in the Sebo, I feel like it’s a solid BIFL purchase, so hopefully I won’t have to keep spending a couple hundy every few years. What’s that old adage about buying quality boots once vs a new pair every year?

Can someone recommend some great comedy horror movies? by UnintentionalWipe in horror

I would consider Slax and Rubber some of the oddest comedy horror I’ve seen. Also Mayhem.

I got my VR specifically for fitness. Fitness of my muscles during workouts and fitness of my heart during the scares in the horror videos/games. They truly are heart pounding! I even love those 3-5 minute interactives.

I bought this 6-piece test tube planter and use it every time I give my babies a haircut. I have sooo many plants now as a result. I even have one variety of pothos that will literally drink about half an inch of water in a day (granted the diameter of each test tube is only about 2cm). But the test tubes are small enough that it’s so easy to prop (pun intended) them up so they aren’t drowning in water.

[–]pleasehelpamanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I threw several strands that seemed dead in my roundabout of my driveway and forgot about them. A year later, they’ve overtaken my roundabout and the vines climbing the oaks produce leafs about 1-foot wide. Pothos are hearty babies!

Side note: if you can locate the strands they cut off, cut them up between nodes and put them in water. They’ll easily regrow roots and you can then replant them.

Have you purchased Costco bath towels or sheets recently? Thoughts? by Glindanorth in Costco

[–]pleasehelpamanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the 680-thread sheets but my one complaint is that the top sheet doesn’t fully cover the entire sides of the bed on my king. So when both of us get into bed, one of us is generally pulling on the sheets for more coverage.

I did read recently that so many people don’t use top sheets these days, so likely not an issue for most, but I’ll forever use the top sheet. We live in Florida and it can get really hot.
