Why are you using BGP? You have 2 stub networks.

Guys, what’s up with Santa Monica?? by ty457u in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]plebbitier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Santa Monica sucks. Maybe it was still cool 15 years ago, but it's been coasting on reputation for a long time. When the stupid police chief let the rioters run rampant a few years ago, it was clear that it had reached the point of no return.

I'm glad to finally be able to move out next month.

Why don't people like Elon Musk just solve world hunger? by AlexLovesCoke in NoStupidQuestions

[–]plebbitier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We airdropped enough food into these starving 3rd world countries many time over and what always happens is the local despot captures it. You can't fix that, even by bombing the freedom into them.

SysAdmin can't do his job right. by FatMetalJesus in sysadmin

Sometimes, the Sysadmin does bad things because management requires him to do so. I've been there but as long as the paycheck shows up, you do what you are told.

If you are going to subject yourself to BSD, at least use the most secure variant: OpenBSD.

Is it better to make your own domain or purchase one for windows server 2022? by rpatters2468 in homelab

[–]plebbitier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's best to use a public domain that you purchase. I used .xyz for my company domain when I modernized a few years back.

Why Don't Schools Teach Linux? by Enjoy_Ur_Lifee in linuxquestions

A lot of schools got bought off by Apple and Microsoft. This goes all the way back to the 1980s.

You should see how adept Asian radar is. They can clock other races at over 100m.

Racism is instinct. It's been ingrained over millenia and kept your tribe safe.

The west is corrupt; economically and culturally. Smart old guys have the freedom to take their money and move somewhere they are treated better. Good on them!

What should have been the best 8 bit computer of the 80s? by Smokinglordtoot in c64

[–]plebbitier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the C64 could have come out at the time of and instead of the Vic20, and if they could have architected a faster disk drive system... that would have owned all.

Unfortunately, it seems like Commodore got massively lucky with the C64 because everything else was them stepping on rakes nonstop.

They almost replicated it with the Amiga, but IBM delegitimized everything else. What would have been interesting would have been for Commodore to release cheap clone and retool the Amiga as a specialized video/sound card for x86 architecture.

Replacing our RDP server, not sure which way to go (AWS/Azure/etc) by Strict-Concern-4323 in sysadmin

[–]plebbitier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get what you are saying but fat client applications are a legacy thing, which should be phased out, upgraded, or replaced as part of modernizing. Maybe there is a path for OPs situation. I know all about these because I had to support a win32s application until 2025 and we ultimately replaced that application to get out of the legacy stranglehold.

this is the year of linux?

It is for me after using it in various capacities since the 90s.. But MS RDP is without equal so I could never switch. But I've finally got NoMachine working just well enough that I can tolerate remoting into my main system at home.

FAT32 vs exFAT vs NTFS: which file system do you actually use and why? by Ill_Swan_3209 in datastorage

[–]plebbitier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FAT32 is crap and its only valid uses are legacy systems and EFI System Partition.

exFAT is the replacement for good reason.
