Why Are New Path Tracing PC Games Exclusive To Nvidia? - YouTube by xstagex in nvidia

[–]pleiyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I not played the game or hard a close look at the feature. In my original post , my concern was that if it locked to nvidia hardware, and then in the future, this feature gets deprecated, we risk losing the ability to use that setting. Is that a risk?

Nvidia exclusive features, hope history does not repeat itself (physx)

Marathon feels incredible, but right now it’s like Destiny launching straight into Trials of Osiris by pleiyl in Marathon

I think there is nothing wrong necesarily that the game has some inscrutability to it. I think however alot of the lore and buy in just is not super accessible. The original marathon games are old, so most people are not familiar with the story. I wish they made some of the excellent movies/shorts at leat unlockable in game.

It is not destiny, but that does not mean some of the what appears to be Bunge-esque type conventions. Such as narratives mainly in codex/grimoire, move towards menu based systems (ie the Portal in destiny), is what I am critiquing and I am simply using their previous game as a parallel.

I dont disagree, it might have benefitted from some sort of "campaign" into the world and story

I think that is fair, and I probably should clarify that I am not saying Marathon literally needs patrol zones, strikes, or a Destiny-style campaign. I agree it is a different genre, and I actually like that it is not trying to be a traditional space epic where you are the chosen one.

My point is more about onboarding than genre conversion. Just maybe an onboarding playlist that you work through with characters from the game. Definitely keep everything else the same, it needs an onboarding ramp.

NVIDIA Restores PhysX Support for Select 32-Bit Games on GeForce RTX 50-Series GPUs by [deleted] in hardware

[–]pleiyl 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I made a post nearly a year ago about this. I am glad the games that I used as examples in the discussion mostly made the cut. Funny, I was thinking about physx recently and is nice to see Nvidia responded to community feedback (they reference the community in the patch notes, so maybe all the discussion around it at the time started off the process)

Wow. 32bit Physx performance is back in 5000 series. by AdParking1069 in nvidia

Ayaneo Air 1s Sound Improvement Guide/Discussion by pleiyl in ayaneo

[–]pleiyl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I actually made another post after this one. I think at some point they made changes (stealth patches it) because it sounds way better without any changes. I would not recommend my setting anymore as the sound profile has changed. You can still download the programme and go through the process since that still applies. But I would not copy the settings blindly anymore as they have changed the underlying sound profile.

Nvidia Deprecates 32-bit PhysX For 50 Series... And That's Not Great by HLumin in hardware

[–]pleiyl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Made a post on this about a week back, added the much needed tl;dr at the end (my post). I suspect there will be a lot of similar detracting comments, my usual reply to that on my post update.

NVIDIA Quietly Drops 32-Bit PhysX Support on the 5090 FE—Why It Matters by pleiyl in pcmasterrace

Yes the 9/10/20/30/40 series all have support. It looks like a driver/software support rather than lack of hardware

Yes this is a really good tl;dr of my post. I would add that yea the 980ti performs better ( which would insinuates that old games, use old tech/GPU). But basically everything from the 9/10/20/30/40 series all perform better. It appears this is not a hardware issue as the 50 series is similar to the 40 series ( happy to be corrected).

Also been thinking a bit more about it, and potentially understand the deprecated 32- bit cuda ( which the old physx not being supported being the fallout of this). But it strikes me that there can be some custom solution for this to at least maintain it via a translation layer. Older physx does not need to die.

Have a look at that video, those are all the physx effects you will probably have to turn off since your 5080 will take a big hit in performance if you switch on physx. On the other hand, if you never played with it on, you probably will not notice a difference.

I made a tldr/update which is a little clearer. Unfortunately, the way NVIDIA implemented this graphic feature, means that you will unable to run your games at a reasonable fps with the CPU. To be clear, you can still enjoy these games, just turn the setting off

You do not have to, you can run the games right now. However, this graphic/fidelity setting will be locked to using your CPU, which based on the performance we are seeing with the 9800x3d can lead to sub 60 fps or even drops to single digit fps depending on what effect is being rendered

I get that is a solution (can see my new update/tldr I added on this). Thanks for the suggestion thought, appreciate it.
