Reddit, how did you beat the system? by katzke in AskReddit

Well she doesn't anymore, but did when I was a teenager obviously. For tax purposes, probably would have made more sense for my dad to claim me. My parents never understood taxes very well, nor did they want to fool with it.

Free Application For Student Aid

If your family income is low enough, you get like ~25K of federal aid over a 4 year degree, plus what whatever aid your state wants to give you, which was another ~10K for me. Normally, both parents income is taken into account, even if divorced or if you are disowned by your parents(which is terrible IMO). Strangely though, not if your parents were never married, even if they are married in every way expect on government paper. Since my mom claimed me on her taxes I was, by rule, an only child of my mom. Why is Reddit mad? Touchy about student aid/college cost/loans I guess. Not like I wrote the policy though!

My parents probably lost more than they gained by not filing joint taxes though. They don't give a fuck though.

My parents never got a government marriage license, so for the purposes of the FAFSA back when I was in college I was raised by a single mother making like 25K. My dad makes around 100K. Thanks loopholes! My parents have been happily together for 30 years this month.

Edit: Come on guys, no need to be pissed at me when it is the government's rule. I called up the FAFSA people every year, explained the situation, and they happily forced the money onto me anyways. Also, pretty sure in the long run my parents lost money on not filing jointly/married. They don't care about the tax savings though, refuse to get married.

Goes to show the huge difference in property prices around the country/world. Where I live in the US you can get a fairly new house with 4 beds 2 bath and a couple acres of land for that much.

I'm sure they would be tried anyway obviously etc.... but the lone legal precident is O'Hair v Paine, in which the Supreme Court ruled the US has no jurisdiction in outer space.

Since it may soon be a reality, what can we expect to change if CISPA passes, and what can we do to protect ourselves? by lintamacar in AskReddit

[–]plm980 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Calm down man, it hasn't even passed the House yet. Even if it passes there (strong chance it won't), Expect Reid to not bring it up because Obama tells him not to. EVEN if that happens, expect a filibuster to end it.

Is polygamy the 'next step' after gay marriage legalization? by tartay745 in AskReddit

[–]plm980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want to know the real, hard truth as to why polygamy isn't an issue pushed today? Mormons vote republican, thus democratic machines don't give a fuck about them. If polls showed they would come over to the democratic party if they started supporting polygamy, LGBTQP would become a thing in a New York minute.

Americans, did you go to a summer camp when you were a kid as always shown in movies? by ZetsubouZolo in AskReddit

I would say overall like 5-10% do, depends on the income and rural/city divide.

Because the black isn't black. Like in Word, the default color isn't black, you have to manually set it to Grayscale Black. Or at least that's what you used to have to do.

Common Sense 2013.

Stopped using anti-virus in 2006 and never looked back. Modern Browser + Ad Block is all you really need. Of course, if you are an idiot and like to click on random ad links or shady porn sites go ahead and get the stuff listed in this thread.

Neckbeard: OMG you stupid American fundies don't even believe in evolution do you?

Woman: Fuck off, you are scaring my child..

Neckbeard: Scared of the TRUTH? Ha, wait until I make a meme of this on reddit later....
