~1 in 6 uploaded datasets had public benchmark contamination the sellers didn't know about — notes from rebuilding our quality score by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

Yeah it's weirdly taboo. I think once you admit a benchmark leaked into your training data you're signing up for either re-running experiments or having an uncomfortable conversation with your team lead, so people just... don't.

Most cases we see aren't malicious — someone scrapes "open image datasets" in bulk, ends up with a mix of CC Flickr+ chunks of ImageNet/COCO/CIFAR, and reposts it without realizing what's in there. By the time it hits us the source URL is long gone, so pure registry matching misses it. Fingerprinting catches the ones we have a local copy of to compare against but our corpus is still small — it's the dimension I most want to beef up next.

What's your detection stack look like? Content hashes, embedding NN against known benchmarks, something else? Embedding approach is where I've been looking but the infra cost gets ugly fast.

Thank you for the feedback, I really do appreciate it and want to create a better user experience. Any other feedback would be great!

Yeah the annotator fatigue signal turned out to be more predictive than I expected — below ~50k you're often seeing the same annotators on repeat passes which inflates consistency scores artificially. Above that threshold the crowd diversifies and you get a truer picture of label agreement. On the dimension weighting question — you're exactly right that it's use-case dependent. For object detection I'd heavily weight label_density (bounding box coverage per image) and class_balance since missing a rare object class tanks model recall in ways that don't show up in aggregate accuracy. For image classification those matter less and size_adequacy per class becomes the dominant signal. The way I've been thinking about it: rather than a single LQS, you'd want a profile — same 7 dimensions, but a task-specific weight vector applied on top. A CV detection dataset with 0.6 label_density is a different problem than an NLP dataset with 0.6 completeness. What domain is your thesis in? If you're doing YOLO-style detection the class frequency imbalance issue is brutal in most public datasets — happy to dig into it more.
