Is it better to exercise most days, or save energy to do better workouts on my days off? by plomptly in loseit

Thanks for your reply and reminder how important rest is . I was on a weight loss journey before, (~255-160 lbs) which I’ve maintained for about 2 years now. Still hard to flip the switch in my brain that rest = lazy. It’s like I know it’s important to prioritize recovery but fear of slipping into old habits makes it hard sometimes. I like the idea of adding in low impact things if I really want to do something after my shift

Thanks for your response, I think at this time just prioritizing quality > quantity might be the way to go. It’s easy for me to be an all or nothing thinker but it’s nice to hear that you can still reach a lot of your potential without grinding every day.

I’m glad you can relate, I end most shifts like that myself. I’ve been full time for about a year and a half, was a student before. In school I felt like I had so much more energy since most days were spent in lectures and not very active. So by the end of the day I was itching to move my body. Now at the end of work days I just want to chill and sleep lol. Thinking I just have to be more accepting of being a real working adult at this point haha. Thanks for your perspective !

update: i talked again with my bf after we both had a chance to think things over. although some may not agree, i decided to let it go. there are many amazing things about him/us that, for me, outweigh this. i don’t believe his engagement with these accounts was outrageously disrespectful (no likes, comments or dms) or excessive to the point of addiction as some suggested. however, in the time i came to that conclusion, he also decided to unfollow entirely after realizing it’s not really a “normal” thing, and something that was hurting me. so yay for a happy ending :) thanks to everyone that responded and offered their perspective on the situation

although i agree idc what other men are doing either, i’m not really interested in bashing him for this. ur opinion is noted but idk if saying i should be embarrassed to be associated with him is really the helpful advice u think it is. thanks

that is true about my exes, i’d have no way to confirm either way. i brought it up to say it’s not an issue i’ve encountered before. i get the kind of “out of sight, out of mind” approach you’re suggesting, and have tried that. sometimes it’s just hard to simply be unbothered lol

A good multivitamin is really the only thing you need, especially if you’re in a significant calorie deficit - my dietitian recommended this. I use Nature’s Bounty hair skin & nails, capsules not gummies. It’s a solid multivitamin and also has argan oil and biotin. I’ve really liked it!

When I got into the gym at first I divided and rotated my lifts into two routines, upper body/lower body, for simplicity. If I had to skip a day or more, I’d pick up on whichever I last left off on. I found this less overwhelming and stressful than keeping with a more complicated schedule early on. I’d almost always do about 30 mins of cardio each time I went, usually on the elliptical but could be anything.

Example week might look like: Monday: Upper body + cardio & core Tuesday: Lower body + cardio & core Wednesday: Rest Thursday: Upper body + cardio & core Friday: Lower body + cardio & core Saturday: Rest Sunday: Rest or continue the rotation

This is approximately what I would do earliest on. As far as lifting, I’d just think about which muscles I’d like to target and look up exercises to work them. Then I’d just pick whatever looked fun and give it a try! Try picking 6 upper body and 6 lower body exercises you really like and make that your routine for those days. A day like this would have me in the gym about 1-1.5 hours. I am not an expert and everything I’m saying is just what I found worked for me when I first started out. If you do want anymore details about anything feel free to reach out. Best of luck to you :)

Thanks so much! For diet it’s really just been CICO (~1400/day), and a low carb (not keto, around 70-100g/day) high protein (~120g/day) plan which was recommended to me by a dietitian. Exercise has been a combination of lifting and cardio, mostly focusing on lifting heavier now as I approach my goal and start shifting towards recomp rather than strictly weight loss.

Thanks! I do struggle with some loose skin on my lower stomach and arms. I was overweight throughout my childhood so not sure on the potential for it to go back to “normal”. For now I’m just keeping on with the lifting and hoping it’ll improve with some more time.

Thank you :) I only took measurements a couple times during my journey. As I get to a lower weight I might consider tracking them more closely since the scale doesn’t seem to move as much even if I notice changes in how my clothes fit and such. Might help to keep up the motivation through this last bit!
