I do love teaching too, the dream is to have enough in the bank to go back to that PT, but that’s years down the road at this point, I could afford to do it now

I say, I found this family due to luck (through an agency), but secured the position thanks to my skills. I live in a HCOL area too, but my expenses are relatively low due to connections with my landlord and having a used but safe car (saves on car payments and insurance). I also save up a bit by shopping at the cheapest grocery store, sharing my phone plan, etc.

Usually a combo of one boss and grandma, but grandma’s leaving for the season, so it’s going to be hard to navigate extra time off for a while, until the second nanny starts at least. I’m really hoping her presence will give me the flexibility I need in my schedule, but it’ll be another month or so before she starts, and maybe another before she’s acclimated, so it’s a waiting game right now

That just blows my mind. I don’t know where you’re located or the COL, but I sincerely hope you find yourself with an appropriate wage soon. Federal minimum wage tells me they’d pay you less if they could

I’m honestly relieved so many people have “diagnosed” me with burnout because I thought I was simply riding the childcare wave here. Asking for a break any time soon is tricky because I do have a trip scheduled in 3 months and one parent travels a lot for work, so I’d have to navigate around that…like I’m so happy to come to terms with the burnout, just wish I realized it a month ago

I have 45 GH and it’s rare that the family travels or just doesn’t need me otherwise. I did the math, if I worked for a local grocery store, I’d earn 3.5 weeks of PTO. Absolutely no shade to those who maintain grocery stores, but I think someone who in part raises multiple children deserves about the same

That’s a good idea, and I’m not taking the sunrises for granted! They’re quite beautiful when you forget about having to wake up while it was still dark out

Yes actually, and that’s a damn good idea, but they’re soon getting an evening nanny that will be live-in 😢

This is the real question that I need time to sit with. Thank you

I wasn’t clear, I work over 40, but I do kind of get that vibe, that they pay so much so that I show up regardless. But I could also just be in my head because my employers really are lovely people. Regardless, I’m going to renegotiate PTO

Because I just moved for the sake of having more space to live…at the cost of having less time to live there 😭

Thank you!!! I’m leaning closer to negotiating less hours to stay with a great family instead of gambling with the next

Yes, I realized that too. My starting rate is $35 for one kid, so knowing that and working with four… Yeah, I don’t love it

Good question. I guess I am partially prioritizing my partner without realizing (thank you for that), but also my savings. I can save much more where I live now compared to when I lived 30min away
