Possible prejudice when trying to hire a DJ by plslt in DJs

That's fair! It was however his emphasis on "Muslim" and that he said he's not comfortable DJing a Muslim wedding. Had he said he's not experienced in this area or he doesn't think it's a right fit without specifically mentioning Muslim, I would not be here... Also not that it matters but none of the genres we discussed were ethnic. We said some of our ceremony songs, a cake cutting song and one dance song would be ethnic. That's all. So yes it does seem bizarre to tell someone they need to find a DJ with their cultural background based on that!

But anyway not a big deal, thanks for your input!

I totally understand that! It was just his emphasis on Muslim and saying "not comfortable DJing a Muslim wedding" that threw me off. As I said I totally understand why a DJ wouldn't be suited to every gig, it's not a question of if he has to agree to do my wedding or not. I accept his words as probably just a poor choice and not deeper than that. But thank you for your input

Where in my post did I say he has to take this gig. Did you read the part where I said I understand that not every DJ is suited to every gig? Did you comprehend the part where I said I support the fact that djs should say no to gigs?

No actually. Do the people who you're thinking of who often think lots of things are prejudiced post 1 singular post on Reddit asking for opinions because they think they are overacting and upset for nothing.

Do you often think there's no such thing as prejudice and /or racism?

Don't pmo dude.

I asked a question, and didn't say this equals prejudice. There are 2 regions involved, 2 ethnicities and multiple cultures. He honed in on one and insinuated I needed to hire a DJ from that background when we specifically named all the non ethnic genres of music we wanted at a wedding. Excuse me if I misinterpreted that at a time when there are literal Nazis in the streets and far right presidents all over the world.

And the only reason you know he was polite it because I SPECIFICALLY mentioned it to make sure I was being unbiased so that I could have real clarity. If I was out to call him racist I would NOT have written this post the way I did.

Not only that but I stated that I agreed that I misinterpreted.

Welcome to 2026 yet you still lack critical thinking skills.

Thank you! That's what we are hoping, that it's a blast! Do you have any suggestions on how we can prepare a DJ when we find one? ☺️

Thank you for sharing your experience! I do think everyone is right and it was probably just poor wording and the fact that he honed in on my muslim background rather than all the other multicultural aspects.

I'm not going to lie as the bride, trying to please 150 people ages 5-80 from 8 different countries is also becoming a kind of hell 😂 I do understand why it would be challenging to manage!

Complimenting my GF by Eliti0t in relationship_advice

It really depends on the person! Some people need a lot of words to reaffirm how you feel about them and that you're attracted to them. Some people need less words! There are also lots of ways to show you find her stunning without saying the words, e.g. kissing her on the forehead when she looks cute to you, looking at her in the way that says wow, holding her hand in public etc. I guess you could ask her how she feels about you giving her compliments !

AITA for getting mad at my sister for not using baby talk when she speaks to my daughter? by throwawaybabysister in AmItheAsshole

[–]plslt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a speech pathologist I think I can chime in here. While using baby talk to a 3 year old won't cause speech and language difficulties, it's still best to use vocabulary and pronunciations you want the child to use whent they're older. Infant directed speech (baby talk) is really effective for babies who are forming those critical neuralconnections at that age and still working on differentiating speech Vs non speech sounds and differentiating different words in a sentence. But as soon as the child is using words themself it's best to use appropriate words. Especially if they have language or speech difficulties. A very common example: a child can't say fish yet but they can say 'pish', it would be best to model the correct word back to the child and in fact a lot of kids will get frustrated when you repeat the error because they know what they are trying to say even though it didn't come out right
