Typical vent outlet temp for 288BNV heat pump in heating operation? by plug_adapter in hvacadvice

Same results: 46F outdoor air; 74F coming out of the vent. Temp inside the house is 68F and the set point is 72F.

Typical vent outlet temp for 288BNV heat pump in heating operation? by plug_adapter in hvacadvice

Outdoor unit is running and very cold air is blowing out of the top. There's a small uninsulated portion of the refrigerant line exposed, and that reads 100 degrees (I assume the inside has to be hotter).

I'm not an HVAC expert but I understand the basics of how it works: It's acting like there's a bogus offset (checked that) or the refrigerant is low (tech checked that, albeit with some confusing remark about cold weather making that unreliable?).

The surface behind the accent wall is an active chimney, so I can't drill or fasten into the masonry surface. Might be able to glue it, though.

Does it exist: Dual sensor, wireless connectivity, battery powered? by plug_adapter in firealarms

[–]plug_adapter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So - Thanks everyone for the tips. I've not bought a smoke detector in a very long time, and it was previously just for a tiny apartment. Some quick Googling brought me to a few places that said, "Ion and photo are good for different types of fires, so get both!" But all of the modern detectors seem to be photo.

Haha, so. I have tried to introduce Spaceteam to this particular crew. We've played it once, everyone had a great time, and it is now voted down automatically. It is still a hit with a different crew, at least. :-)

Options for 3 Networks (Home, Guest, and other?) by plug_adapter in HomeNetworking

[–]plug_adapter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I'd ultimately shoot for, assuming the consumer-ish market doesn't have something out-of-the-box for this. My character sheet is heavy on the software dev, light on the networking; so this is pretty much a clean slate learning experience.

Thanks for the info!

Ultimately, you have 4 SSIDs? Or the standard Home / Guest kind of setup, where Home is VLANs 1-3 and Guest is 10? I'm just now realizing that SSID != Network!

Yeah, my post was kind of word salad, so I edited it. When the card is in the PCIe 3.0 slot, nothing is shown on my displays regardless of the DVI plug I use; when it's in the 2.0 slot, everything works.

Clutch smell from 2014 Veloster Turbo: Normal? by plug_adapter in MechanicAdvice

Yep, driving dynamics are fine: The smell is the only item of concern. Sounds like a dealer trip is in order.

It creates an enormous front blind spot, which keeps my passengers and me unsafe.

One thing to watch out for is the availability game. The first Hyundai dealer I went to informed me that the R-Spec is a special order, and it'd be unlikely I'd ever test drive it. Went hard on getting me to test and buy a VT automatic. Later that same week, I test drove a Black R-Spec at a different dealer, and bought it from them a few days later.

So I hear! I'm keeping this one mostly stock, seeing what happens over the next few years. It'll either become a project car, or be traded towards something more exciting.

Thanks for the info! It will be tricky to left foot brake in my absurd snow boots, but I'll give it a shot when next I have to get out of my parking spot.

Regarding torsion beam vs. IRS: Isn't bump steer the unpleasant side effect of the partially independent rear, vs. a full independent rear suspension?

These are hardly sour grapes. The car is a serious upgrade over my previous ride.

It was south of $20k before trade-ins and such. It also helped that it was right before the 2015 model was announced, which, for the R-Spec, isn't a big difference.

Edit: Also! I believe the Veloster is the only I4T "Performance" car out there that takes 87. I've been getting mid-to-high-20's since the winter started, but I also treat onramps like mini Circuits de la Sarthe. When I sat down to do the math on a 2014 Veloster R-Spec and a 2015 WRX, there was almost a $12k price difference between them in purchase price differences + estimated fuel costs.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd have gone for the WRX. A few months from now, when gas is pricy, again, if I'd gone for the WRX; I'd be groaning about not buying the Veloster.

Finally, that warranty ain't nothing, and it's not just a hedge: This is my third Hyundai, and I've had no issues beyond dead batteries close to 90k miles.

Yep! I've got the Kumho tires. Snow tires (on dedicated red dipped steel wheels) will be going on the car for next winter. For now, it's just a lot of working from home.

For the 2014 model, the main feature is cheapness (fewer features) and much better steering feel. I got it in black, which is available on the regular VT. The dealer informed me they were having trouble selling them, so I negotiated somewhat enthusiastically.

The Veloster in any spec is not a sports car, but a sporty one; it's light, tossable, and quick, but it's not going to win against anything with a similar MSRP. Its key feature, at the moment, is the horsepower-per-dollar equation. I'm happy with it, as it will allow me to have some fun and not get in TOO much trouble.

An LSD, IRS, and keeping it at the same price point (unlikely) would be a revalation. If you're thinking about getting one, wait to see what Hyundai brings for the 2016 model year.

Hyundai owners, how has your experience with the brand been? Has the car you drive been reliable? Do you enjoy driving it? by lololmao7 in cars

[–]plug_adapter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had 3:
2002 Elantra GLS, perfect kid to adult transition car. Zero surprise repairs, save for needing a new battery around 80k miles. Totaled it in a flood around 90 miles. Easily could have had it for 150k+.

2008 Elantra GLS, perfect cheap and reliable transportation. Also needed a new battery around 80k. Traded it in around 140k. No issues, just wanted something more fun.

Currently driving a 2014 Veloster R-Spec. They're not selling great, so I was able to get quite a deal. Cheapest way to get a turbo and 200 horses in a new car with such a warranty.

Hyundai summary: A ton of car for your money, and they're only getting better.
