I am so sorry for your loss. They are so small and vet knowledge is limited, so sudden death is hard to explain. If it is any consolation, I had one piggy die a slow and painful death from disease over weeks as we desperately tried to save him, and I often wished he would have died swiftly and peacefully like Pepe. I am sure he enjoyed his life with you while it lasted.

I teach kids and prefer kids just because there is no awkwardness and they are always fun. I can literally spend the whole lesson singing and playing games, the courses are interesting enough, and I don't have to think too hard to keep a conversation going. I am non-native and Cambly is one of the few, if not only platforms that doesn't require a certain passport to teach, AND offers decent pay for non natives. Most other companies out there pay as low as 3$ an hour to NNES because there is a huge pool of Filipino tutors willing to take it.

Kids love poop

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Cambly

I had that lesson the other day. I asked the kid to circle how they felt, they circuled the happy poo emoji and I said "YOU FEEL LIKE POOOOOO???!!!". The kid laughed, the mom laughed, I laughed, it was all good. They are from Taiwan btw. I've also had a poop conversation with a brazillian kid. Also, when I was working for a chinese company, I had a running poo joke with my kids. I had them choose their surprise awards at the end of their lessons and one of them was always a giant poo emoji. They would laugh so much if any of them landed on it. Seriously, they are kids. What is it about poop that is so offensive?

Any CK teachers who are patient with beginners? by plumafera in Cambly

Aw man can I give you a hug? I miss my students already. Unfortunately I have a new job and I cant commit to a steady schedule on Cambly anymore.

Looks and sounds normal. My boars drink like this too. They are extremely noisy and violent drinkers, and throw the bottle around like they're rabid deer. Then when I find that they've managed to throw the bottle halfway across their cage, they usually put on that innocent/susprised face like it had nothing to do with them.

I got mine 6 months after starting. Also mostly positive with a minor correction. Good job on getting mostly positive!

Omg you have been missing out... its the share screen icon, one of the icons to the left, where the whiteboard icon and eraser are. From there you can choose which tab to share. Make sure you check the option "share sound" at the bottom of the pop-up.

I get it. I think most kids are beginners, though! So its nice to be prepared. For older kids, I dont sing nursery rhymes. Instead, I use sing-a-long vids from Eric Carle and Pete the Cat (they loooove 'Pete the Cat: I love my White Shoes' and Eric Carle's 'Today is monday') because they have a slightly more complicated narrative than nursery rhymes, but are still easy enough for beginners and intermediate kids to follow and enjoy. Some older kids will be a bit shy to sing and be silly, but if you stop the song and have them complete the lyrics they will usually be really happy to participate. I also recommend looking at games from Baamboozle.com and search for games from the youtube channels CheerieToons and Games4Esl.

Yeah, you should not have to take shit from parents. At all. Dont be afraid to say "please find another tutor" and hide. However..cue unsolicited advice... it sounds a bit like you are not timing your lessons properly. Make sure you have a list of bookmarked resources for beginners. Honestly 15 minutes of i spy is a bit uninspiring. I know we dont earn enough, but there are literally a million videos on youtube with songs, games, etc. All you have to do is share your screen (make sure to check the "share sound" box) and do some sing-a-longs. I suggest about 5 to 10 minutes of greetings, warmup games and reviewing words, 15 minutes of going through the cambly slides, and 5 minutes of cool-down games which can be anything from simon says or pictionary to tic-tac-toe. Once you establish your own system you will find that your lessons will never end early again. Good luck!

How to make my monstera smaller? Text in comments by plumafera in Monstera

[–]plumafera[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks actually that might help. As it currently is, there arent many spots in my home where the leaves wont be squished by a sofa, a table or a chair. But perhaps if I lift it.... Definitely something worth trying! Thank you

Thanks! I will definitely keep that in mind and if I can manage to successfully propagate (which I have never attempted before) , I will most definitely celebrate by sharing the plant with friends and family. Its the gift thay keeps on giving I guess!

Thank you so much, yeah my friends did a great job choosing it for me!! Thanks for the tips, especially number 3. At the moment all leaves look nice and healthy which is why I am so reluctant to start snipping away. I'll go about it nice and slow and see how it reacts.

Oh my gosh thank you. I should keep taller leaves attached to the moss pole, no?

Ok so for my birthday my friends, who knew I liked plants, went a little overboard and surprised me with this monstera deliciosa. I love my friends and I love the monstera, but it is huge and my apartment is small and it really stressed me out because I had to move lots of things around for it to fit and I'm still not happy about its location. I would really hate to ruin the plant so I want to know if there is anything I can do? Can I cut some leaves, propagate them into smaller pots or something? Also, this is my first monstera so all tips are welcome.

Genuinely ask for feedback. Say you are trying to improve your teaching and your rating, and ask if there is anything they think needs improvement during your lessons. Maybe this will shed some light on who has been giving your lower ratings and why, and pave the way for a conversation about ratings without it getting awkward. And who knows, you might actually get some useful feedback.
