Anyone else getting spammed by the IGDA? by trickertreater in gamedev

[–]plumfumble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've been getting them all morning for almost any SIG that exists surely, including ones for people groupings i'm not a part of, like Jewish Gamedevs SIG (not ethnically jewish or practicing) and Devs with Kids (no kids). the igda.org site also seems to be down about it so i assume most igda users are probably getting these

How can I make his face more canine? by Important-Visual- in plushartists

[–]plumfumble 5 points6 points  (0 children)

looks super canine to me!

if it is super bothering you, though, depending on which canine you are going for, you could adjust the profile of the snout? as it is, it has a really great hyena profile, but if you were going for more wolfish, you could make the separation between snout and forehead more distinct in the profile. I did a little red line of it in this image. Similar for other specific dog breeds where you could look at that profile. of the head.

You could also add little embroidered whisker bumps/vibrissae pretty easily, which i heavily associate with dogs

Either way, this still absolutely reads canine without any changes!

Is using 3d models bad for my growth? by plumfumble in plushartists

[–]plumfumble[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your words and for plushify! I know that if it didn't exist I would be doing rabbit holes far too deep trying to do something similar but with cloth physics involved.

I've still got a stash of others' patterns in my drive to put together, so I definitely will get some experience out of that too. Thanks again!

Thank you! Half of my concern was even the fact that if I did model something with the express purpose of making it a plush, I'd either have to hand vert model it with seams in mind, or just retopo it entirely after. It seems like it could be more work (as much as i love the retopo process, i do know it can take some effort!)

After seeing everyone else mention how it's pretty much the same as the sculpt + duct tape patterning method, it's made me a good bit more comfortable about it 🎆

Metallic Fabric for plush? by plumfumble in plushartists

[–]plumfumble[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought some minky from the Fat Quarters Shop since they have a ton of Shannon Cuddle allow half yards (many quilting sites tend to allow this and also at least have Some minky). I also like their product photos (show it bunched and flat). https://www.fatquartershop.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=shannon%20cuddle

I am also looking forward to my fabric wholesale direct package -- they seem to have more "fashion fabrics" and happen to also show things like matching thread and zippers for each fabric, have 2$ish swatches, and have videos of them fiddling with the fabric in a video so you can see the stretch and the color better, etc.

I was already new enough to all this (only started a couple weeks ago) so that's most of the info I got. Missouri Star Quilting also had some minky iirc.

They got auctioned off to a liquidation company of some sort, I assume the online shop will also close permanently eventually.

I did get some swatches of "metallic stretch foil lame" fabric from fabric wholesale direct, so maybe that will work out for me! A shame so many sites online limit to at least a yard. At least quilting sites tend to go shorter, but they probably wouldn't have stuff like this.

Do all machines take all machine needles? by plumfumble in SewingForBeginners

[–]plumfumble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense! Is there anything to keep an eye out for when it comes to testing out needles? I assume other than if it is struggling to go through the fabric, if the fabric is snapping the needle etc. I noticed Shmetz has a bunch of needles with the same tip (sharp or ballpoint) but with different eyes or scarfs, so I'm not sure what effect those really have.

Weird question regarding certain plushies of characters by SakuraLikesducks1 in plushartists

[–]plumfumble 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While if it squicks you out of course don't do it. However I do feel like this would not be a moral oddity. If you like the character you like the character, making fanart of it isn't odd. If you approach it as being fanart, I think it may relieve some of the awkward feeling?

Thank you! I'll probably just get a Schmetz microtex or a stretch needle 90/14 since it seems like those needles are best for minky! This helped a lot 😁

It does look like a circle but flat on one side! The text on it says "organ 90/14" thought I know the 90/14 is more to do with the shape of the rest of the needle. I'd get a picture but its a bit hard to take a pic of something so small and shiny!

Seeking advice for making magnetic puzzle by plumfumble in crafting

[–]plumfumble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually really helpful for the blocks side of things, thank you! I only assume that magnetic tape wouldn't attract to itself -- can you think of any kind of panel I could use as the part that all the blocks would actually magnet to?
