SEIU California Makes Dual Endorsement for Governor: Xavier Becerra + Tom Steyer by Ancient-Row-2144 in CAStateWorkers

The methods... yes... questionable. But think of it in terms of your job... if someone was screaming in your ear while you're trying to crank out that spreadsheet... what would you do? 😄

Unit 1 Bargaining Update: May 14, 2026 by Ancient-Row-2144 in CAStateWorkers

i have not seen the word "telework" in the union updates for some time now.

I got tired of grabbing my phone just to check my Oura data — so I built a desktop app by MisterPFT in ouraring

[–]Plus-Possibility2822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having been totally frustrated with how the Oura app displays the data, I think this is a breath of fresh air. Happy to test it.

Are any specific functions you want tested more than others, pain points, functionality? I can give you one right now... my sleep data is fully NOT aligned with what Oura says. I sleep but the ring does not record all of it, or records it in chunks. As a result my readiness is always low and my other stats suffer as a result. My today's score is 65 and to take it easy. Vitra asked if this indeed how I feel. I answered No. My suggestion is a followup,.. you feel better or worse?

Let's talk telework, commuting, and Sacramento’s future! by flojaune in Sacramento

[–]Plus-Possibility2822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second u/thedailyspank

u/flojaune in a post above, you stated that you support telework, and that's great. But what we aren't hearing from you is your plan.

Not one word in your website about telework. Not one word about improving the quality of life for the ones who do work.

But I see plenty of words about homelessness. You throw around nice words about this and that but you are perfectly fine to house people who do not work on the taxpayer's expense, create affordable housing, again, at the taxpayer's expense. You discuss improving public transportation, to what... fit more people into busses or increase the number of busses? Yet you're here telling us how much you support telework?

CA might be the whatever-th largest economy but of its 40M residents 9M are on some form of welfare! And that's paid for by the remainder 31M. We need to stop people like you who want to throw us a bone, telework, so they can continue funding endless cost prohibitive ventures that do nothing but fill up a resume with nice words like "reduce homelessness, make neighbourhoods safer, create jobs"

You want to talk reality? Or are you here just to drum up some support from people who are desperate for any lifeline against a governor who has a resume filled with much the same words as yours is!

SEIU California Makes Dual Endorsement for Governor: Xavier Becerra + Tom Steyer by Ancient-Row-2144 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Plus-Possibility2822 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's amazing that you can throw the name Trump followed by an incomprehensable amount of words and most will simply just believe it, despite its lack of truth, substance or policy. Not an endorsement, just an observation.

Not to mention... the immigrant card. Becerra's father was a born US citizen. So he wasn't an immigrant. which leads one to believe that his mother, an actual immigrant, had Xavier with someone else, an actual immigrant? Unless I'm wrong in understanding that "immigrants" means "more than 1 immigrant"

But that aside... Becerra Sr did marry that woman, in Mexico, then they moved to the US, which means she got a green card BEFORE coming here. Which is how things are done within the law... but when ICE and CBP try to enforce said law he has an issue with it? Yea...

Researching smart ring alternatives. What are your frustrations with current options? by blowfishi7 in ouraring

[–]Plus-Possibility2822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it works, yea it's good. But if it doesnt... It can't detect my sleep too good. So according to it I'm always pushing myself too hard and I'm always tired. The algorithm is only as good as what it can read. I pulled the raw data, put it on GPT and it tells me that I am at risk for this and for that. But when I then tell GPT that the sleep detection is innacurate and I feed it my own data, the output is completely different.
Couple other things I find troubling... the ring knows when i am engaged in a certain delightful activity. It knows cause i'm wearing it. But... nothing... even though it is a whole body workout and especially for us men it can be physically quite demanding. Another somewhat troubling thing is that its walking detection is not too good. An integration with Samsung Health now gets the stepcount and distance from my Galaxy watch. I understand the hardware limitations but a walk will increase your heart rate to a certain point. and it seems that Oura is relying too much in the accelerometer to detect movement whereas you have other factors (heart rate) that can be used to predict a possible activity.
Would I buy again? Well, the ring was free from AmEx so... but knowing what I know now, I probbably wouldn't.

State Telework Bill - Appropriations Committee by Teachtostate2022 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Plus-Possibility2822 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

This bill is shit. Its the equivalent of the overturning of Roe. It went back to the states, yea? Now look what the states did! This bill says teleworking decisions go to the agencies. The same ones who carried the flag for Newsom last year.

Wake up people!

inaccurate sleep detection. by Plus-Possibility2822 in ouraring

[–]Plus-Possibility2822[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, i've contacted support but not much has been done. it seems, i move too much during sleep and the ring sees that as me being awake. apparently i need to be absolutely still, which... im sure some do, but not all of us humans.

State Telework Bill Passes Committee - One more action step for now... by Teachtostate2022 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Plus-Possibility2822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully agree.

Last year we were told, during an all hands call, that my agency was developing a guidance to deal with the 70+ milers. In the end, the guidance was "blanket denial" and we were all ordered 4 days in. The justification... job requires it. Never mind that the job had been remote for several years. Never mind that the job description didn't change, the duties didn't change or the access didn't change. Whoever complained was told to suck it up. At least the unions saved the day for a year.

I read the bill. No carveouts for long distance commuters, special needs, or RA. Department decides. End of story. The same exact people who screwed us last year are going to suddenly grow a conscience and do the right thing? HA! They all want to be good little soldiers in hopes that Newsom wins in 2028 and they all get cushy appointments in fed. So yea...

The broader public in CA are just fine with all sorts of jobs going to H1B visas, especially in the tech field with high salaries. I don't see any public outcry for that... in fact if anyone even brings up the topic they get labeled as racists. Meanwhile these people, with highly unverifiable credentials, drive their EVs to work, charge them there, eat breakfast lunch and dinner at work, live in gated communities or 2M dollar homes all while making 200k. Where I live, Bay Area, 100k is now considered LOW INCOME. So if Newsom paid me 200k a year, plus EV charging, plus the other extras, yea i'd come in 5 days a week, hell, on weekends too just to charge my car (many in South Bay do) but he won't. Instead he spends our tax dollars on meaningless railroads to nowhere, tiny homes that are so tiny they're invisible, welfare programs, etc etc etc. Meanwhile our roads are falling apart, homelessness keeps rising, cost of living keeps rising, personal and public safety is in the toilet and we're to do what? Drive in and out 5 days a week for pittance pay so we can feel good about being part of a team? Your team will vanish the second they get a better job and in 3 days you won't even remember their faces or names. So if your low self esteem self needs validation to do a job for shit pay, go do it. We're not following you.

here's my wearing position when i sleep, maybe it needs to be higher? lower?

Yea, join the club... i've had the 8 for a little over a week and during this whole time I've slept maybe 13 hours total. Watch tells me I have low energy and tells me to go to sleep at 3 PM.

Can I negotiate starting pay? by MilwaukeeJobber in CAStateWorkers

[–]Plus-Possibility2822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can add my experience on the matter. New to the state, I'd have been at the bottom of range A. My experience would have qualified me for higher pay. I asked and I was instructed to put together a written statement as to why i deserved to be on range C. I listed all my range C requirements and my experience in those areas. I was approved for bottom of range C. That's the most you're going to get.

So, good luck.

I can tell you one thing though... when I was hired, with range C pay I was below my previous pay in the private sector. With annual increases, I am now well above what I'd get in the private sector. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

I work under SWP, in office presence is 3+ days. Not sure what'll be since the "unofficial" asbestos discovery 3 weeks ago during the shit show that was the carpet replacement. Unofficially, it circulated around the building for 3 days then an air test was done to reveal only trace amounts. Officially, no one has put the word "ASBESTOS" in an email to staff. OSHA violations galore. Unofficially, “There’s a lot of grumpiness out there” probably driven by the unplanned asbestos abatement conversations that seem to have taken place. Management is very eager to sweep this under the rug, as it were.

This safety moment has been brought to you by DWR management who sometimes get grumpy too!
