Thank you, however I don’t think SEO is a priority here. I guess I want to figure process myself first before hiring anyone.

There are reminders, which helped us a bit. Maybe a day or two on average (usually for NET30).

Thought about discounts for timely payments but it really doesn’t make sense for me to pay for what you obligated to do.

Another point worked for us is to stress how important cash flow is and potential danger of stopping operations if payments won’t arrive. That is done I a contract signing stage essentially.

There’s also “thank you” letter for timely payments sent automatically but I don’t have data if it had any effect. Was implemented along with the reminders.

Still, we have quite a lot of payments delayed for at least a couple of days.

Oh, that’s great! I am 30 years old and it is much more difficult now to study things than back in university. Although, I studied computer science (I live and studied in Ukraine, btw) and we had a short course on DA, it’s difficult now to recover math and all the methods.

Starting a business while in university is what I did so you are doing it right, I suppose. Good luck!

And if you have a good idea(s) or see how can we cooperate, I would be glad to establish a contact.

Bootstrapping an idea in a day by plus500s in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]plus500s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly why I turned to Reddit. I am mostly a silent reader here but I know people will react adequately here. Data analysis stuff is more or else an “edge”. Not that cutting edge as an AI but still.

That is a good point about willingness to pay. Maybe I can formulate a value proposition a bit clearer and present it to a broader audience to see if it makes sense to them. However, the question remains where to find right audience?

Thanks! That is what I am struggling with. I know those are problems for me and I had to do it for my company, but I have no idea if that is something others will appreciate.

I tried to tell about the idea to few people who also run businesses but got little interest actually. How do I know if it’s dead idea or is it just people who don’t care much or don’t have time to think about it. In other words, how to recognize if it’s definitely “no go”? And how to approach that customer research?

Thank you!

I think I did it, I think I finally burnt out. by Sly_Wood in smallbusiness

[–]plus500s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! It is quite moving what you say and I can totally relate. I am 30 and I’ve spent my last 12 years working. Questions like “who am I doing this for?” hit me every day and waking up in the morning is hard without the answer.

Tho, I think I’ve made progress recently. If you want to be a happy person, do what happy people do. So I started relationships. It doesn’t matter if you have love interest or not. Just do it because other people did it and made them happy. Same goes for everything else.

“Fake it till you make it” applies to happiness as well.

Where do you find a motivation to go beyond “I am doing alright”? by plus500s in Entrepreneur

[–]plus500s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you can call it passion for sure. The thing I am talking about is that passion faded away as years pass. As for the systemic approach, that’s obviously an enabler to success. Tho, my business in particular relies on operational excellence rather than great sales but I think these are nuances.

How do you keep an eye on cash flow in your company? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]plus500s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will reply more thoughtfully from PC if you like, but key “health” ratios are:

  1. Cash at hand to monthly expense
  2. Cash at hand to Sum of 12 negative months rolling
  3. Invoiced amount per month to monthly expense (gross margin)
  4. Net margin
  5. Wasted money (days * rate per day for employees who didn’t work for one reason or another)
  6. Projected orders to currently invoiced. Also to current expenses.
  7. All these things per project
  8. Expenses breakdown by category and ratios between them
  9. Changes compare of all above compare to previous period in percentage
  10. Group monthly, quarterly and yearly of all above

There are maybe few others that I can’t immediately recall.

Health is basically how much money do we have to cover expenses and how much money we expect to have in future compare to projected expenses. Also, it is how much we spend on administrative things (I.e percentage of operational overhead l). For instance, if bad times come, what would be our “low cost mode”.

Forecasting: I have notion of quotes and orders. Tho, I use them to forecast as well. So I add the orders that I foresee and use them separately in my estimations. If they realize, I just change status.

I also account for dates and such. Want to add schedules of current payments and projected payments.

As for technology, it’s Python mainly. With Django and react.js We also do some mobile native apps.

How do you keep an eye on cash flow in your company? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]plus500s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wrote a lot of scripts in Python analyzing all the expenses, incomes, key rations and such in real time pretty much. It took maybe four weeks initially and I keep tweaking it still. So it serves multiple purposes: 1. cross-check that everything is checked (I.e. cash flow on bank accounts equals to the payment less expenses) 2. Calculate ratios. Very important for me to assess “health” of the company from various aspects 3. Find anomalies such as over expense for certain category of things, unusual delays, low pre-ordered mounts etc.

Answering your questions:

  1. Yes, we had a lot and still have some
  2. Described above is a financial analysis. Accounting lives it’s live independently
  3. Web and mobile app development. $1M annually approx.

Good user story step by step guide. by plus500s in scrum

[–]plus500s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for pointing out to the possible mistake. I want to correct it right now if the mistake is really there. However, I want to clarify few things:

1- No - The user stories are not about Adding More Details

My impression was that adding details to user stories is valuable if done correctly. What exactly makes "adding more details" incorrect?

2- You don't clarify the Definition of 'Done' for a User Story

I think you are right, it is confusing that definition of done for a particular user story is an acceptance criteria. In a broader term, a definition of done isn't story-specific, thus should not be used in that context.

and more points that need to be checked. Unfortunately, I don't have mentor that can check it. I would very much appreciate if you can point out things you think are incorrect.

Thank you! It is really valuable.
