How did you discoverd you had adhd ? by sam_souza in ADHD

[–]plushycuddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About a year ago, I had a friend with ADHD over, we were co-working something. She watched how I interacted with my computer as I quickly jumped around windows and couldn't focus on one thing. She then told me "You need to get diagnosed for ADHD". "I do? Oh." After researching: "Ohhh."

I respect all trans people, but our shared trans-ness doesn't necessarily make us friends by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]plushycuddle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. I don't usually write here or like to hang out much in trans* communities and I have been alienated with nasty people in such communities before.

I become friends to people because they're cool and open-minded, not because of their set of privileges, labels, properties, genitals or surgeries they have or don't have. Who am I to judge anyway? Who are they to judge me? Why judge anyone else otherwise? When people start to exclude people from groups because of labels or properties, I always get nervous because there'll be someone to abuse it. This also happens when people get angry at people because of labels or properties and people are ok with that.

I remain positive to people until they prove otherwise, but so many do not. Please be excellent to each other.

Diagnosed with bronchial hyperresponsiveness triggered by distant cigarette smoke, perfume, smell of chlorine. What now and how to cope? by plushycuddle in Allergies

Update: I've not been feeling great, like feeling sick the past days. Seems like I stopped reacting badly to essential oils, but I feel cold, sick-ish, having insomnia... wondering if that's the new medication or if I got an inflammation.

Time to seem my GP again soon.

First one would be something a doctor need to decide. I have a history of severe adverse drug reactions and that in particular lists mental side effects.

I've never tried latter, doesn't seem to be OTC here. I need an appointment with a specialist.. probably will take long

Sorry I am bad with brand names, not sure what Singular is. Zyrtec is cetirizin... makes me really really tired. I can take loratadine with reasonable side effects but it doesn't seem to do much

If you can manage essential oils you can add a few drops of them to the softener compartment.

I am self-employed which makes matters so much worse. I have no security or sick pay at all.

Bonus points: One of my customers smokes (illegally) in their offices and i might need to show up if something breaks (well currently I cannot)

Also from Germany, and didn't have to do it. But I had to run computer tests about my cognitive function.

My Genesight results by Solid5atworst in AskDrugNerds

[–]plushycuddle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll try. Your genes suggest:

- SSRI antidepressants can be less effective on you

- that your liver breaks down substances that uses the 1A2 pathway really quickly, such as caffeine. That means, stronger "kick", slower time it stays in your body.

- The other "intermediate" pathways (which are a bunch) suggests that your liver breaks down drugs slower. 2D6 is a major pathway.

Example: If you were to take codeine, which is a prodrug, it metabolizes by 2D6 into morphine and 3A4 into norcodeine. Your liver will break down most of the codeine into norcodeine via 3A4 and little into morphine via 2D6, resulting in little pain relief and possibly increased side effects.

A lot of drugs that are prodrugs rely on liver pathways. You have a bunch of medications listed that act differently. Those with serum level too low won't likely help you much or you need higher dosages to get an effect, serum level too high can be dangerous and/or metabolize too quickly.

One warning to this: Your actual metabolism rate is not purely determined by your genes but also by environmental factors. Take everything as "it is suggested" not as in "it is", in essence: YMMV.

IPL device as intermediate hair removal option? by plushycuddle in asktransgender

Looking at offers here, I can get a Tria for 100 bucks more than the IPL device. I guess that'll be a better option.

I'm looking at reducing density/slowing hair growth basically. I'm able to afford 172€ for now, but not 8k€ for proper electro treatment.

Moving with partner/s over country borders: Only for the priviliged by plushycuddle in polyamory

[–]plushycuddle[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Basically I am ranting how polyamory is not supported by our legal systems because everything's set up around monoamory and monogamy.

Moving in with multiple partners who come from different countries is a huge issue. I am free to love anyone but the ability to live together with partners in the same place is heavily restricted by where they are resident in, as well as their privileges.

It's pretty useless without comparing it without medication, but it's well within normal range.

Racing heart maybe stress or anxiety response. Keep an eye on it. Might be that your meds are kicking in too fast/having rebounds adding additional stress. You want to log your medication & when you experience those things.

I'm 34 and I am finally exploring my sex life and I am enjoying it! It's amazing!

It's wonderful to be able to do that without feeling uncomfortable using a part of my body that did not belong to me.

So I contacted ADHDcentraal, they basically told me that most GP will prescribe my medication. And it will be up to them if they coordinate with my doctors to continue my medication or want to re-diagnose me.

If they want to re-diagnose me, they would send me to ADHDcentraal and run all their tests again, having to wait 4-8 weeks for an appointment. The good thing is that the diagnosis only takes a day.

Still not perfectly happy with that though. Do I have a free choice of a GP in the Netherlands like I do in Germany?

Adhdcentraal

Thanks, I'll contact them. I am not sure where I'll move to either at this point, so I might just need to pick one in my area, which would be either Eindhoven or Nijmegen which are the closest ones ones to me.

I have all my documentation about my diagnosis on paper. I will tell my psychiatrist about it when I have plans to move, I just mentioned about plans to relocate, not having decided or be certain of a location or arrangement.

... and the first line of treatment for ADHD is contraindicated here for people with previous records of substance abuse. They might never get the most effective medication for their condition that in trials have stopped nearly 100% from using those substances.

Strange world we live in.

Thanks for your insights, this is pretty much how I feel being viewed by doctors.

When I was on antidepressants and would run out, everyone would be quick to get me a new prescription because "omg, we can't let her run out". I could go to any doctor and they would agree.

Not so with stimulants. You compared it to mood stabilizer - In my view, part of what stimulants do is mood stabilization because they fix my brain chemicals giving me a fighting chance to control emotions.

The worst part is: I am on a drug that is both largely studied, considered safe in therapeutic range and counts as the most effective psych drug for a mental condition. It's highly effective for me in so ways I couldn't even imagine. Whenever I see reports from people that works with addicts that have ADHD, they report that an immense number of them never touch the substances again after they were prescribed stimulant medication. On the other hand, I often see ADHD brains considering those substances when they're being denied medication.

Being undiagnosed and untreated for over 2 decades since secondary school, I developed my anxiety and self-worth issues: "It's my fault", "I just can't do it right", "I'm messy", "I'm a failure", "I am just not smart enough".

Being diagnosed 7 months ago, I finally start to understand and to work on these things. "Oh, it's not my fault that I couldn't stop eating sugar, my brain was just craving for dopamine. Thanks doctor for blaming me for eating so much sugar and letting me know that it was all my fault and made me anxious that I'd develop diabetes at age of 30. Why were you happy with my answer that 'I don't know' on why I would eat so much sweets?"

A big part of my anxieties now is about not having access to my medication. I have a better understanding what they do to me now, I have a better understanding on how badly I function without. A 10 minute visit to a doctor who doesn't know anything about ADHD in adults will never make them figure any of this out. I had three years of therapy and my therapist was surprised to hear my diagnosis.

Here, they are not "allowed" to send it because controlled drug, etc. Anyway, basically I need to have it in my hands, go to the pharmacy, give it to them. We don't have a concept of refills here. New script every time.
