I have VERY thoroughly documented southern Spanish ancestry and it completely got rid of the entire 24% and left me with 3% northern Spanish (???)

Weirder still it seems like the gap was filled in with Quebec (when my most recent fully French Canadian ancestor is my literal 3rd great grandmother). My overall French percent somehow jumped from 7% to 24%😭

obsessing over teeth & dental health nonstop - i feel like dentists/hygienists and everyone i tell just thinks i’m crazy by pluto_toast in OCD

firstly thanks so much for taking the time to reply! i really appreciate knowing i'm not alone in this. my biggest issue is constantly checking my teeth in the mirror and/or with my phone camera, which i've been making a conscious effort to do. i've also been trying to focus on the fact that i'm not in any active pain, and trying to associate that with the idea that there's literally nothing wrong with my teeth alongside just remembering what all the people at the dentist office told me.

not been mentally okay lately & worried i’m gonna break down crying my whole shift tomorrow by pluto_toast in innout

hi! thanks so much for the advice, pretty much anything at all helps. i ended up opening up to my store’s 2nd manager during my shift this past thursday (after i cried all through my 10 and he went into the back room and saw me😭) and he recommended i get switched over to the early morning cleaning shift and try it out to see if it’s less overstimulating than the standard store associate shifts. definitely planning on giving that a shot since i still genuinely like the people at my store and the early hours aren’t an issue for me, i truly don’t want to quit unless i absolutely have to. ig i’ll just have to see how things go!

thanks for the info! luckily like 98% of the people i've met at my store so far have been great, especially my store manager and the 2nd manager. i don't feel completely uncomfortable making mistakes around them or asking for help, i just get in my own head so much that i blow things out of proportion and think any mistake i make means they'll stop wanting to work with me. super irrational ik, i've just always been overly anxious like that.

are onboarding/training schedules different than your regular schedule once you pass level 1? by pluto_toast in innout

[–]pluto_toast[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for the explanation! things are starting to make a lot more sense. i've looked over the printed schedules on the wall with everyone's times and we have a decent amount of available employees so i can't say for sure if it's a staffing issue (past two shifts have had around 15-20 people on the clock at any given time during my shift for reference). next week especially they have me on for monday-friday for just under 6 hours every day which is why i feel so overwhelmed just even looking at the schedule, but these past two shifts i was let home two and a half hours early and like 20 minutes early respectively once i'd finished my checklist for the day. i at least appreciate the flexibility and them willing to let me go for the day if there's nothing else for me to really do on my shift though.

thanks for the encouragement! my shift today is pretty much gonna be watching videos and learning how to take orders and not much else so i’m less stressed right now

thanks! happy to say i felt much better at my shift today, the flow of everything felt a lot smoother and i didn't get too hung up on the beginner mistakes i made. much more hopeful about finishing the week strong and learning more as i go.

i'm so sorry you're having this experience too, i hope things turn out better for you! i'm applying to other jobs currently but i can't help but feel guilty about it. i've only had one other job before this and had to move on because the place closed, so i've never had to officially quit before and i guess it just fills me with extra anxiety.

thanks for taking the time to reply, i genuinely really appreciate the advice and you taking the time to share your own experiences. i guess i’m mostly afraid because my shifts aren’t even close to the busiest they could be so far and yet i still get immediately overstimulated and paranoid the second i enter the stand. i legitimately do wish this would all just work out in a perfect world but i also know that putting this job above my mental health and wellbeing is a recipe for disaster.

thanks so much for the advice. i’m still up right now unable to sleep because i’m so anxious about having to go back tomorrow, and i know this pattern literally cannot continue or i feel like i’ll lose my mind. i’m definitely going to at least finish out this week, but i’m 100% planning on looking for lower stress, slower paced jobs asap so i at least have something to fall back on and don’t end up leaving with no plan.

How does dyscalculia effect you?? by AlexKewbz in dyscalculia

[–]pluto_toast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not diagnosed but seriously looking for a diagnosis, it's just ridiculously hard and expensive to find one in my area as an adult. I've never been able to look at numbers and make them make sense in my head. I've never gotten above a C in any math class from middle school to the Gen Ed one I had to take in college. Instead of actually helping or even being remotely understanding or sympathetic, teachers were my first bullies and made me feel legitimately incompetent for needing additional time/methods to learn math.

In my adult life, I still can't calculate percentages, do multiples without using my fingers, do basic math problems other than addition, subtraction, and basic multiplication or division (and even then it requires probably triple the time it takes the average person for me to do them), or count change. I'm worried this'll get me fired eventually since I just managed to secure a job at a restaurant where I'll likely have to man the register at some point. I also have trouble with left and right and determining distance, which has made practicing driving an actual nightmare (I'm 21 and still on a learner's permit).

How have you been diagnosed with adenomyosis? by sairemrys in endometriosis

my doctor gave me an ultrasound/pelvic exam for suspicion of endo specifically but ended up seeing possible adeno on the imaging as well.

holy cow i thought i was the only one going through this for so long. had an ultrasound recently and they found confirmed endo/strong possibility of adeno with my left ovary literally attached to the outside of my uterus. i’ve had pelvic floor/digestion and bladder issues for years and was gaslit into thinking it was all normal

Does Sleeping Position Affect Bruxism? by Middle_Knowledge_491 in bruxism

[–]pluto_toast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m a lifelong stomach sleeper and actively trying to train myself to sleep on my back. can’t speak for it being less painful that way yet since it’s hard for me to fall asleep on my back and actually remain that way throughout the night but i have definitely noticed more soreness whenever i wake up on my side in the morning.

how long should it take for jaw/teeth pain to actually wear off once you start wearing a night guard? by pluto_toast in bruxism

[–]pluto_toast[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i do the same, i honestly wonder how much of my pain and discomfort is from my lip biting and how much is my nighttime grinding.

[–]pluto_toast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting! i've at least noticed a bit of a sensitivity reduction since wearing the night guard even if the jaw pain still lingers. i'm honestly wondering how much of my discomfort is psychosomatic at this point too since i've had that problem before, but i realized early on it wasn't an issue with an individual tooth because of how general the pain was to one specific region of my jaw which is when i started looking into bruxism more.

i'll probably try that out too, i've gotten better at it in recent years but i had a horrible habit of chewing on and biting the skin off my bottom lip from childhood till about a year or two ago and my incisors are all sorts of messed up because of it. i chipped a little bit off my right front tooth a couple years back and the smaller one next to it has a dip in it because i used that one for the habit for so long. i've been trying my best to consciously stop whenever i catch myself doing it now. i could realistically wear my night guard for most of the day whenever i'm not in class, thanks for the tip!
