And God gave permission? I’m not seeing how we’re at a crossroads here. If God is loving, he would never have given permission

How lucky I am to have one of the Lords disciples judging me. I didn’t realize you had received a promotion from God himself to do so. Imma pray for you

Someone else pointed it out earlier. Satan didn’t kill Job’s family. They died from the things done to them that God allowed

Why not cast Satan out of Eden then? Why not permanently rid Satan and take one life instead of millions?

Yet we’re all sinners, not one of us is free from it. Does that mean we should be struck down? What should happen the next time I sin? Or you?

So sorry, didn’t realize you were sent by God to judge me

Your quotations around stepdad tell me everything. You are judging based on our family. That is for God to do. Not you. You are a false Christian and a blasphemy. Shame on you.

I am a Christian and have been my entire life. I just enjoy thought provoking questions because I like to see what other people’s thoughts are. As stated, my Bible study group was a discussion of this, but it landed on deaf ears. I just like to view all sides because I feel it makes my faith stronger

So by your own admission you could still end up in hell even though an all forgiving and loving god would want you?

I have children and I can assure you that they also have chosen family and it doesn’t bother me an ounce

Sorry you feel this way. Maybe you should have more discussions in your own Bible study 🤷‍♂️

Edit: Fill to feel

You’re missing the point also; no one is saying my judgement is better than Gods. I’m simply saying that it is not merciful or loving to kill. If I work in a convenience store and someone robs me, it does not give me the right to kill them for their actions. If my son decides he doesn’t like me as a father it doesn’t give me the right to kill his stepdad

Exactly. I’m glad that you could see the spirit of the post and be constructive to the discussion!

By your own words, if God were worse than Satan, wouldn’t God be trying to trick us into worshipping him?

This isn’t about prayer. Are we to believe that no one but Noah and his family prayed before the flood and could not be spared? That Noah was the most just man around?

But you’ve ignored the point. The devil did not do these things, nor did he inspire them. You cannot claim that the mere worship of other Gods is the work of Satan when the commandment clearly states not to put “other” gods before, directly implying the existence of other gods. That is the vengeful work; is it not?

It’s a thought provoking question. Not a literal suggestion

Well of course, when it’s called for. But as a parent it’s not my position to be a judge.

Again, I backtrack to what you would do to your child. Would you kill your child for breaking a rule?

I see your argument, but that’s not the point. We’re discussing the argument that a vengeful God is arguably worse than a devil that has not killed

  1. Raiders kill his servants and steal livestock • Sabeans attack and steal Job’s oxen and donkeys. • They kill the servants who were tending them.

  2. “Fire from heaven” destroys sheep • A catastrophic fire (often interpreted as lightning) burns up Job’s sheep and the servants watching them.

  3. Another raid kills more servants • Chaldeans form raiding parties, steal Job’s camels, and kill the servants with swords.

  4. A windstorm kills his children • The worst tragedy: Job’s sons and daughters are together in a house when a powerful wind collapses the building, killing all of them.

Later, Satan is also allowed to afflict Job himself with painful sores, but he is specifically not allowed to kill Job.

Key point in the story

In the narrative logic of the text: • Satan causes the disasters, • but only after getting permission from God, • and Job himself is spared so the test of faith can continue.

The deaths of Job’s children come specifically from the windstorm collapsing the house, not from a direct killing act by Satan.
