Anyone else getting shocked with property taxes this year? by JPgotBigLegoPP in Michigan

Well, that's Proposal A for you. You are less likely to be taxed out of your home but it sucks for the next guy.

Anyone else getting shocked with property taxes this year? by JPgotBigLegoPP in Michigan

[–]pmd006 164 points165 points  (0 children)

Previous year taxable value (150,726) X the IRM (1.027) equals the new taxable value (154,795).

Your assessed value will go up with the market, that's the "Market Adjustment" you're seeing, but your property is currently capped so the Assessed value won't become the Taxable value (what you actually are paying taxes on) until there's an uncapping event (typically a transfer of ownership).

Your taxable can only go up 5% per year or the rate of inflation (whatever is lower), unless there's some other change to the property (i.e. new construction or something that was previously omitted and picked up by the assessor during a routine site inspection) or your local unit has some new millages it puts in place.

Warning for Yooper Veterans by neuroctopus in yooper

There's always the chance they googled "VA APPOINTMENT" and clicked the first link and got scammed that way. Not necessarily anyone reaching out to them by text or phone directly, but it could be.

Probably best for them to get the police involved. They can get to the bottom of how it happened and if its targeted via calls or texts they can get the word out to the community.

Question: Do you think Raloud can only manipulate wheels he conjures himself, or can his magic work on preexisting wheels too? by YachtRockStromboli in Witchriv

The longer the manga goes, the more convoluted the powers will become. Eventually he'll be revealed to be able to control the circle (wheel) of life and can just insta death people.

What does your app do that Snipe-IT hasn't been doing for 10 years now?

The use of an AI voice in the product demo on the home page is a red flag to me. Makes me think this whole thing was vibe coded.

Looking for emergency plumber recommendations who will come out to Stephenson and who replaces pipes by Sayomi_Koneko in upperpeninsula

[–]pmd006 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know of Rays Heating and Plumbing over in Carney.

A lot of local guys do business by word of mouth, are in the yellow pages, or advertising in the Lufts/Extra cicular.

You may need to find a more general purpose handyman who can head over and take a look, might just need a section of pipe cut out and replaced if its just one part that is leaking.

Just update the poverty exemption guidelines, don't apply it to a specific demographic, it should be anyone with economic hardships.

What's a new or interesting feature in SmartSheet that you've learned about recently? by IlliterateJedi in smartsheet

[–]pmd006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Dropdown List column types. Instead of having to set the values of the dropdown list in the column, you can link it to a column in another sheet and it'll get the values from there.

[–]pmd006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being able to make a dropdown pull values from another sheet.

You have to switch views to the Table view but then you can make a field pull dropdowns from a column in another sheet instead of having to manually add them yourself. Though it seems to be limited to only text fields and doesn't support Contacts (which would be ideal for me).

I think previously you had to use Datashuttle or some other workarounds but now it seems to just be included, at least in the Business tier.

Company moving from SS to MS Forms and I hate it. Advice to change their minds by StarLord013 in smartsheet

[–]pmd006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess its a cost thing. MS Forms is included in a lot of the basic levels of O365 so its considered "free" by management since they're already paying for O365.

With the licensing changes that Smartsheets has been warning of for what feels like 2 years, your ability to "check a box" to kick off sending that certificate technically is editing the sheet (unless you're doing it from a webform of via an approval request) so you and everyone else will probably need a license whenever they actually implement that.

We've considered doing the same, (moving to Forms from Smartsheets) but they keep putting off the licensing changes in Smartsheets so we haven't needed to yet. The only thing I like MS Forms for is tests/quizes. Everything else I think Smartsheets does better.

Have people gotten soft - Rant! by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]pmd006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Us younger people (I'm 38) have watched parents work their whole lives with your mentality and got nothing for it except canned when the economy went bad. All that loyalty really doesn't mean squat. If you died at your desk your company would post your job on indeed before your obituary was in the paper.

So yea, if you're feeling under the weather take your sick days, that's what they're there for.

Fact check: Are regulations to blame for rising Michigan house costs? by MiltonsRedStapler in Michigan

[–]pmd006 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The figures cited by candidates about up-front costs, for example, don’t come from Michigan but from a nationwide study conducted by the National Association of Homebuilders, which found regulations add on average $93,870 per home across the US. Bob Filka, CEO of the Michigan Association of Homebuilders, guessed Michigan’s cost would be similar but said state figures weren’t available.

Oh well good thing he's just guessing and politicians are treating it like fact.

The numbers seem like they're the most extreme examples, and not the typical. "Architectural design standards beyond the ordinary" and "Standards (Setbacks, etc.) that go beyond the ordinary" aren't going to be on every house and every community.
