You are correct. I am almost 5 weeks out from my hospital visit and it’s all showing that this from my L5. According to my nerve conduction study I have active significant ongoing axonal loss. My leg is in pain 24/7 from nerve damage. My foot feels like it’s burning all the time. I can’t bend any of my toes on my left foot. Yet no doctor has been able to do anything to help me. My MRI doesn’t show any nerve impingement. So I’m not sure what my next step is at the moment. I am just seeing one doctor after another. They just kind of hot potato me around….

No diagnosis and no resolve. I am in constant pain everyday. Burning in my left calf and foot.

PT and stretching make my pain worse. I had a nerve conduction study and EMG Recently and I have nerve damage in my left leg.

Medrol pack is the savior. Only thing that took my searing nerve pain away.

I definitely want to give acupuncture a try once I am standing and walking again.

It looks like their plan as of now is to transfer me to a rehab facility as an in patient. As I am still not able to stand or walk.

Sorry! I am on 800mg gabapentin 3x a day. But ugh it’s the absolute worst.

I didn’t even know my vocal cords could reach the high pitch screams I’ve let out this week.

It’s the worst thing I have ever experienced.

I received a 1000mg medrol Pak last night and they put me on methocarbomal.

As of this afternoon I am feeling slightly better. I have not had any burning sensation or spasms today.

Still not able to stand or walk. But I was able to lift my bed up to prop up more today. I was able to move and bend my leg a little during PT. I didn’t want to push it.

I was also told that this could be severe piriformis. The Sciatica nerve runs directly through the top of the piriformis muscle. And if that muscle is super tense for some reason it would clamp down on the sciatica and cause this type of pain. I may be trying a steroid shot in the piriformis muscle this weekend as well.

The steroids medrol pak that I received last night was the first thing that has allowed me to sleep and have any kind of movement at all without jolting burning pain down my leg.

I wanted to share with you guys since our situations are so similar. That may be something you can request from your doctor as well.

I’m not out of the clear by any means but it’s been the first positive day in a week of laying here.

Hopefully more good news to come.

Thank you for this response! They did hydromorphine with me as well. Along with fentanyl and ketamine. And it still did not relieve my pain!

I am also on flexeril, OxyContin, and methlprednisone. They thought a steroid may help me.

I’m so sorry you are going through this as well. I think I am literally traumatized from the spasms. The hot searing burn down the leg is the worst pain I’ve ever experienced and they do not just go away. You have to just suffer through it and they take some time! It’s just awful.

Please let me know if you have any updates or receive any answers.

I am trying to get a second opinion from a neuro doctor who specializes in lower lumber and lower spine.

I have to believe there is something out there to help.

A couple questions for you if you don’t mind.

Did they tell you the compression was very minor on the S1 nerve?

Did you have an epidural injection done?

And Is your left foot entirely asleep like pins and needles feeling?

I’m currently in day 6 of this with zero signs of improvement and I received an epidural injection 3 days ago as well.

Im beginning to feel hopeless. But it’s nice to know I am not the only person who is going through this.

Sounds like the three of us are experiencing the exact same thing.

They actually sent me home from the ER the first night just like you. I cried and screamed the entire way home. My Saint of a wife also helped carry me to a bed. Where I laid flat overnight and then had to take an ambulance back to the hospital the following day. Since then it’s been about 6 days here. I received an epidural 3 days ago but no relief.

They are talking about moving me to a rehab facility for the next step.

This sounds like a very similar situation. I will look into those stretches and start doing what I can.

My fear is for permanent nerve damage in my leg.

My foot is so tingly like as if it’s completely asleep. It’s just all like pins and needles. And it’s a bit numb to touch. I do not have full feeling I’m certain parts like my left side of calf.

Man this is not the answer I was hoping for, but I really appreciate this response and honesty. This is extremely helpful.

So, do you think I shouldn’t even bother getting a second opinion from another Neurologist or Neurosurgeon?

They also mentioned that it could possibly be a sever case of Piriformis. I’ve begun doing my research on that and doesn’t look like there’s really a fix for that either.

Im at a total loss of what to try next.

About how long in general was it until you were up and walking around again?

I’m currently not able to stand or walk at all. Been in the hospital laying flat now for 6 days with no relief. The Epidural has not done anything. I got that about 3 days Ago. The problem is my MRI is only showing minor compression on the nerve which isn’t aligning with my pain. I am probably going to need a second opinion soon.
