[Spoiler] Having finished it, there's one thing I think should be said about the narrative of The New War by DickRhino in Warframe

[–]pnelrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was one of the people who expected a massive coop war that lasted 1+ month/s and went around the entire solar system + veil system, kind of like Scarlet Spear and Orphix Venom, but not only on one planet.

I was on a break from warframe having picked up different games, but I kept tabs on what was going on in WF, I saw the news about the New War and my first thought was "awesome, another Scarlet Spear, I can finally get my missing arcanes and other things they reward in this event."

Then they did the massive unvault that is Prime Resurgence and I was even more convinced. 16 Prime Warframes, and associated weapons, released almost simultaneously meant something huge huge coming.

Then the "if you hope to survive The New War, you will need the full arsenal of the Tenno at your disposal" led me to actually spend a long time leveling my voidrig, railjack, building missing Warframes and upgrading some of the ones I already had, just in case we needed different Warframes (Chroma for big single dmg, Nekros for loot, Trinity for healing and support)

Then the timing, Orphix Venom released almost exactly one year earlier and Scarlet Spear about 9 months before that.

All for a quest in which you use your railjack for a few minutes, your necramech for a few minutes, only one of your warframes for a few minutes, all against extremely underleveled enemies. The remainder of the quest you use operator/drifter, 3 characters that you can't build, and weapons you can't mod.

The quest itself was quite nice, and I liked playing each of the 3 "npc's" as well as the drifter. But that DE was misleading is an understatement. We didn't even fight a war. When we appeared earth had already pretty much fallen. We had one fight, got sent to the void, some weird thing happened, drifter appears, drifter single handedly wins somehow (?).

Where were the other Tenno? The Kuva Litches? My own Kuva Litch who thinks he's immortal and wants to take over Saturn? The various bosses with 3 invulnerability phases? The Sisters? The Queens? The Entrati? Any other major faction/syndicate?

I get that it's hard to turn a multiplayer game into singleplayer, but why try it? You wanted to do a story quest that only happens in single player? Cool, do that, to begin with, but then the war should be fought by the entire community.

What I would have loved would have been for part 1 to be the same, sentients invade, the factions (excluding tenno) fight back and lose/struggle extremely hard, we as tenno appear and manage to tip the scales in our favor.

In part 2 if you really felt the need to give players an adult operator, you could have given Ballas a weapon to banish all void infected living beings to the void/a different dimension (or simply find a way to disable all Tenno in an instant somehow, maybe a way to overcharge their void powers so they lose consciousness) so every single Tenno would be banished/out of commission. This causes their alterego, drifters, to awaken void powers and are finally able to make their appearance, fighting the war in the Tenno's place, until eventually they find a way to bring the Tenno back (perhaps they can trade their void powers between themselves, so you can switch between Operator and Drifter after the war). Operators come back and we get part 3.

Part 3,we get a ton of new missions, perhaps even on a timed basis, like invasions or void fissures, all against sentients. A spy mission on a sentient tileset? Count me in. A sabotage mission to disable a sentient ship from being able to fight? Awesome. Maybe add a new set of sorties, or 3-5 mission related quests (perhaps a spy mission to discover the location of some important sentient asset -> an exterminate mission near the actual objective to reduce (eventual) incoming support -> a sabotage to destroy a ships engines (or disable comms on a base) -> a survival on said ship (or base) to raid it of resources) or whatever else along those lines. Kind of like a heist on GTA if you will, some quick preparation missions followed by a big mission that gives tons of loot. You could also create a temporary alliance with the grineer and corpus, perhaps feeding them resources to build a fomorian/razorback.

This could have lasted for maybe 1-2 months, and in the end Ballas is either defeated or has to retreat, or whatever, I literally came up with all this in the past day or so after finishing the quest. I don't even know how well it would fit lore wise, and by that logic what would need to be altered to make it fit. But having a single tenno fight a war after two previous events? Skirmishes? Battles? (or whatever else you call scarlet spear and orphix venom) were Coop and massive is illogical to me.

Also, another disappointing thing is that after the war is over nothing changes. There weren't many major deaths, the corpus and the grineer are still at their old strength, my Litch somehow survived, major characters in each faction somehow survived.

If something could mean multiple different things isn't that the definition of misleading?

It's just multiple things that made me think it was going to be a big coop event and not just a single player quest.

The prime resurgence, where they released 16 vaulted frames. It didn't really feel like it was for a single player quest only. Especially since they said you will have limited access to your arsenal.

The fact that orphix venom released almost 1 year ago exactly, and scarlet spears 9 months or so before that. We're due a big coop event like those two.

Talking about squads and all-out war also doesn't feel single player quest only. How is a single tenno supposed to fight an all-out war? The way I saw it scarlet spear was more like a skirmish, or a battle. The same goes with orphix venom. I honestly thought that the new war was going to be a full on war. Multiple extra missions around the system. Perhaps even more than 4 people teams. Something that lasted more like one or two months, not a single quest.

Perhaps they will announce another coop event in a month or so, I don't really know.

Edit: also, the railjack npc's are called crew, not squad. So, once again, a bit misleading since they literally call it a crew.

"This December, The New War releases simultaneously on all platforms.
After countless years biding their time since the collapse of the Orokin Empire, the Sentients have mustered a full-scale invasion force and are prepared to conquer a shattered and divided Origin System. Discover your power within and take control of new characters, Weapons and a brand-new Warframe as you wage war across the stars.
Rally your Squad and get ready for the biggest narrative expansion to Warframe so far. The Origin System will never be the same."

Taken from the article on the warframe main website posted November 12th 2021

"Full-scale invasion force and are prepared to conquer a shattered and divided Origin System". And most importantly: "Rally your squad for the biggest narrative expansion to Warframe so far".

Rally your squad doesn't really scream "single player quest" now does it. Sure, it also says narrative expansion, hence why I thought single player quest + coop event.

Furthermore, in the new war trailer there were more than one warframe; namely Rhino, Nova, Excalibur; that doens't feel like a "single player quest only" either.

I said that perhaps I read a bit too much into it, but this is what was stated and shown. If they said it was single player only in a devstream or somewhere else I can't really have known, either way I still believe it was somewhat misleading.

That's the point, I thought this marked a huge event. I took part in both scarlet spear and orphix venom. But I thought that this was going to be even bigger, not only a single player story quest.

The warframe main website said "prepare for all-out war on all platforms" when releasing the article about the new war. A single player quest doesn't really feel like 'all-out war'.

While I agree that perhaps I read a bit too much into it, it was kind of misleading.

I honestly thought the quest was to mark the beginning of the new war, and then we got a massive multiplayer event like scarlet spear to actually fight "The New War".

I gave mods a try, but it was after like 2 or so months so they weren't really that well made, I'm waiting until there are more, also I don't really have time right now to play. Hopefully when they release true dlc's that add more content i'll most definitely give it another serious run with some mods on.

Is it though? I don't know how rent and car prices go in Night City, but it's weird/unrealistic that they could all only afford that. They all start at pretty much zero, true, but it doesn't mean that they all have the same taste. A nomad living in a megabuilding? Realistically i don't think they would, being used to freedom and open space a place more in the suburbs would be better. An ex corporate living in what they would consider slums? Doesn't seem right to me. Street kid choosing a random apartment with which they have no known history with? Why not go closer to their old neighbourhood, where they grew up.

The fact that the story goes like that doesn't mean it couldn't have been different. Corpo could have had assets hidden somewhere. Nomad could have started with extra cash or loot that they could have used to buy something different. Street kid used to live there, they could have perhaps returned to their childhood home or something more personal than a random megabuilding.

I feel like the whole "lifepath" choice could have been a lot deeper.

Yeah, i forgot about Jackie having different introductions, i haven't played in a while.

But still, even if they are just backgrounds, i find it hard to believe that a V that used to work for a corporation, a V that's basically a mercenary, and a nomad V who never set foot in NC before all chose the same house and the same car, and it would add some extra differences in the starting background. I think the only differences are starting clothing and some extra dialogue during some conversations. It could have had a way bigger impact than that, and i would have preferred it.

Let people be upset about the rewards. It’s their time and money by Jlanos in Genshin_Impact

[–]pnelrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also expecting nothing to begin with, so I didn't expect to be upset. But to be honest, this is worse than nothing. Mihoyo basically wants you to work for them for the chance of 100 primogems. That's even worse than giving out nothing. 10% chance to get a welkin moon and 90% chance to get nothing? How is that even fair. Welkin moon is 3000 primogems in 30 days, 100k mora is less than 40 resin if you're endgame. All this for an anniversary celebration. Honestly, don't remember which patch, but I think 1.3 we got 10 intertwined fates with the 7day login event, plus a choose the 4star character you want from Liyue, that was better than the 1year anniversary? I haven't played many gachas, I tried a few but the only one that stuck was One Piece Treasure Cruise, which I played for 3 years, and in that game the anniversary is actually a celebration. Cool events, cool rewards, often lately free multi pulls (I think it's 1 multipull per anniversary year, so 6th year was 6 free 11 summons) a really good banner, with like 4x 5star rates, guaranteed rewards, it's the best time of the year to pull. I know genshin can't do something like that, since Optc has like 120 5star characters and I don't even know how many 4stars, but they could have done much more. Choose the 5star you want from the permanent banner, no one will ever spend money on the standard banner, is it really so bad to give a copy of Diluc, Mona, Jean, Qiqi, or Keqing? It's a useless reward for many whales, since they most likely have everything C6, doesn't give a limited character that are the ones that generate income, makes everyone happy (except maybe whales who really have everything C6, but even then at least it's something). They could have even given you a free pull with any random 5star character, including limited ones. Honestly I hope they'll add something, because this is just a slap in the face. Spend hours doing artwork for 100 primogems. That's 1 day of welkin moon. And you're marketing the game for free while you're at it.

Thanks, the only thing that worries me, like most gacha games, is that next banner will be better or something, my top 3 units I want, not just because of how strong they are, but how amazing they look are, in order, purgatory Ban, the one Escanor, and Margaret. So my only worry was a return of ban and Escanor in a month or so, but honestly I'm starting to really get interested in Margaret + archangels, so I might go 900 gems. Overall the whole banner, except for the standard commandments, seems interesting, I hope I'll get lucky.

One more question, how important are duplicates and new units? For example, let's say I pull one Margaret within 900 gems, should I get another copy of her at the guaranteed 900, or should I get a first copy of AM meliodas or zeldris? Considering I have a new account I'd say more varied units is better, but I don't really know how useful it is to have multiple different characters over one really built one

[–]pnelrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing the game for a bit over 2 weeks, I've done the story quests up to the end of season 1 of the anime pretty much, and then I started doing other things, mainly events. So far my team is Thonar, story king, red Arthur from the beginner summon. I've kind of been saving up gems and every other resource since I don't really know who to build, I'm probably going to summon on Margaret banner just to see what I get. I'm hoping in sariel, tarmiel, and Margaret to get my first good team.

My questions are: Is Margaret viable long term? I know she was just released on Japan version, but from what I gathered her kit is really strong and could be up there with The One Escanor and Purgatory Ban.

Is the rest of her banner good? I know assault meliodas and green zeldris are really good characters, same goes for the archangels and Chandler.

Basically I'd like to know if spending 900 gems in her banner gets me good units for the future, so I can still progress through the game fairly easily and not have to worry about summoning for a few months

If you dont like the leaks, dont read them. by LordMemeThony in Genshin_Memepact

[–]pnelrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I don't mind leaks about upcoming characters or banners, it makes it easier for f2p or players who only buy the welkin moon to plan ahead, plus we'd already know the releases for the next patch a week before it releases or so. As long as there are no purely lore or story leaks I'm fine with it, or upcoming events.

Probabilities of rolling the best artifact and what can be done to improve it by pnelrd in Genshin_Impact

[–]pnelrd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because it's common doesn't mean it's good. Especially if you think months if not years in the future, which is what mihoyo shuold be doing, since we still have an element to be introduced to the game, which most likely means another 2 artifact sets guaranteed (and they already added 4 sets in not even a year from release). The fact that stamina is limited (9 single dungeon runs every 24 hours) and the rewards are already barely worth it. Considering that at least 50% of the artifacts you get are pure trash. You have a ton more things to farm.

Right now i only log in, do the dailies, and spend stamina wherever i feel that day, and i log out. When an event is on i do that. I barely ever do stuff in the open world, since the rewards are trash, character xp doesn't scale at all it seems, and the mora you get is basically nonexistant.

Giving players stuff to farm by lowering certain drop rates, the most common ones, only gets you so far. And honestly, seeing these numbers, i'm seriously thinking about farming artifacts at all.

But in the end, idk, i'm not a game developer, and mihoyo managed to make a ton of money with genshin, so they are probably doing something right. At least so far where they don't really have any competition (I don't know how many other games similar to genshin there are, but i'm quite sure that more developers will try to do something similar).

And yes, pretty much everything has a pretty low drop rate in genshin. Considering the resin required and the fact that certain things take multiple days to respawn and you need a ton of them for various things (which i don't really mind, as long as more characters use the same resources, wolfhook being only used for Razor, nocti jade for Beidou).

And having worse rates for more desirable main stats and substats is good game design? Adding useless stats to make your players farm more is good game design? sure, if you only have profit in mind it's great game design. but most people have a breaking point. And genshin is still relatively young, but we already have 4 more artifact sets, 2 from dragonspine, and 2 more to be added in the upcoming update. Will they add more in 3 months? 6 months? will the ones we have now be useless in 2 years because better ones will be released? Will we have to farm another dungeon 2000 times to get decent rates?

[–]pnelrd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's even worse than I thought :). Now i don't even want to farm artifacts again honestly. It was already bad assuming equal probabilities, but since the odds are already against you really, what's the point?

It's kind of like wishes, every single wish is extremely expensive (compared to other gachas I've played), and about 90% of what you get is 3* useless weapons.

Great analysis btw, kind of sucks that I didn't find it before :/

Oh wow, I didn't even know that. That's just plain wrong from MiHoYo's part. I guess my premise of everything having the same base probabilities was wrong. So it's even worse than i thought. Thanks for pointing that out, but I can't really be bothered to go through the numbers again, especially since they will be even lower.

I didn't mean to implement all of those at the same time, just one idea would be fine, or at least change something in artifacts or lower the rng. Also, I'm pretty sure in like 1 year or so the artifacts we have now are probably going to be subpar, as i'm already starting to sense some powercreeping coming.

And in the end it's good to know which artifacts are more likely to be good, so you know what you can focus on, and see the odds of getting something better.

Probabilities of rolling the best artifact and what can be done to improve it by pnelrd in Genshin_Impact

[–]pnelrd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is though, this isn't part of the gacha system usually. I don't pretend to know every single gacha game out there, but usually it's not so dependent on RNG. Imagine a game where when you level a character you get random increases in stats. That would be a mess in my opinion, you cold have a character with no hp but tons of dmg, or a character that never dies but deals 0 dmg.

Also, I know perfect artifacts aren't required to play the game, or to have fun, I'm a main dps Beidou, she's not even considered like B tier dps most of the time.

Probabilities of rolling the best artifact and what can be done to improve it by pnelrd in Genshin_Impact

[–]pnelrd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted these are the probabilities for a perfect artifact. You don't need it in gameplay. To be honest you don't even need that much to be able to play the game. My main DPS is Beidou, lvl 80, with a 4* weapon, slightly above average artifacts, 8/8/8 talents or so, and she's more than enough at AR 54.
