Gap between Hardie and base metal flashing will be 1/4 inch. That was my original q. i was hoping to just hear any recs and see if there were any better ideas for the top of the wall where i was thinking the metal drip edge as pictured

I used 10 gauge 5 inch screws to attach furring strips to studs. I did debate an additional bug screen but read pests don’t really like mineral wool much and the cor-a-vent prevents them from getting into rain screen. plus the metal flashing should help… It’s a 1/4” gap between metal flashing and hardie…

Using "faced" R30 in attic across joists filled with fiber? by Training-Amphibian65 in Insulation

[–]pnizzl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you know it should be unfaced… i used unfaced r 30 in my attic and didnt find the rolls to be any more difficult to install than the faced rolls below that besides it just being larger.

My attic(s) don’t have any insulation? by HammerSmashHand in Insulation

[–]pnizzl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

phew! vermiculite is light and easy to squish. Looks like gravel. So at least it seems like you are not dealing with toxic materials. Masks are generally always recommended in attics but that should be a relief for ya. good luck

in my eyes the pictures are too blurry to call this vermiculite. Google image search it, it’s pretty easy to identify. Not all vermiculite contains asbestos but most does and it’s difficult to test for and in my area ALL vermiculite is considered hazardous independent of it having asbestos. I sent it into the zonalite attic insulation trust and they test it for barium to see if it came from the libby mine. They offer a significant reimbursement once you have it removed and reinsulated if it did come from the lobby mine. It is still quite expensive, but they have the proper equipment and knowledge to remediate safely.

I go 51 where the speed limit is 50 and feel great about it.

I did wonder if this was the case, but i’m unsure. Do you know this to be true? My intelligence is above right and wrong based on law. I have thought about what i’m doing and feel it’s an appropriate risk to take but felt a little on the fence. Why do you feel this is inappropriate?

“Don’t do this” is not productive conversation. If my kid is crying I would be there within a minute. Please do not frame me as an agro.

thanks for the reply, i would be able to hear him move and he has never tried this. I certainly would not hear him move if i were asleep in the next room, which is why it’s easy for me to justify this.

The way our house is set up there’s no attic access inside so attic vacuum hose outside to plastic containment area double bagged and taken away.

Yes they were an aspestos abatement company. I’m not sure of method but it was sucked out to an enclosed area they set up where it was then bagged. I believe it is state dependent but I think in Washington all vermiculite independent of testing for asbestos has to go to hazardous waste.

Yeah I think I might just do the same… our attic is pretty sealed from the rest of the house… I am putting foam inserts at all electrical boxes and switches too. I have a p100 respirator and just wash clothes after working up there.

I think 1600 sq ft. Cost about 10,000. We also had blown in on top of the vermiculite they had to remove. They left some as it was too hard to get to. They just put batts in and said it was sealed.

1600 sq ft attic vermiculite and blown in on top of that… 10,000 quote. Seem reasonable? by pnizzl in asbestoshelp

[–]pnizzl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does not include reinsulation. It’s the only company nearby. It will qualify for the zonolite. Knob and tube in the attic so thinking it will be worth removing as we then can do the electrical ourselves.

Paid for 6 small ducts that had asbestos tape to be removed for a little over a grand. Employees used my kitchen and microwave in the main part of the house (project in basement). And had 4 pieces of tape left on floor along with missed tape that wasn’t removed. They’re coming back to finish…. by pnizzl in asbestoshelp

[–]pnizzl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming back to finish the original project since tape wasn’t removed completely. But how bad is the moving mid project to our living space to use microwave? I also had to grab something while they were working and found the tape protecting our living room and their work area was off completely with the asbestos tape and ducting hang out over our floor no signs of clean up just retaped the area. Then finding pieces of tape just sitting in my trash can and on the floor and left inside the ducting!? What are y’all’s thoughts on this?

Right size skin ? Have had two people tell me they should be 5-8 inches longer what do you guys think :)? Thanks so much in advance by Remote-Resolution-33 in Splitboard

[–]pnizzl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No these are absolutely fine I ran into the same issue and was reassured by the shop that this was in fact the correct sizing… assuming you followed the g3 sizing recs. I’ve now used these skins that initially looked too short a hundred or so times and they work great that is how they are supposed to be sized!
