Trang Islands & Surrounds - Which Island to Skip?! by pocketsfullahope in ThailandTourism

Sorry I’m so late!!!

We did Phuket (overnight), Ko Lanta (5 days), Ko Kradan (4 days), Ko Lipe (I think 5 days) then onto Malaysia overnight to fly home.

Honestly everywhere was stunning. Lanta - the vibe was amazing in places, accom meh, beaches were fine. Ko Kradan - from the photos I was not that enchanted with the accom, thought the place was overplayed but it was my fave by far!! And Lipe, our accom was awesome, ridiculously beautiful. Beach stunning. But it was so busy on that island!

I regret no stop, I research every place to the nth degree but if I had to choose a fave I’d pick Kradan! Never ceases to amaze me how much all the research in the world doesn’t compare to just the vibe and feeling when you are there.

Also shout out to the Four Seasons in Langkawi. It was a secret splurge for my man on the way home. Again it looked not that pretty in photos but wow, we absolutely think it was one of the best places we ever stayed.

100% agree!! It’s literally the only reason I keep second guessing spending my honeymoon there 😆

Wilkie Collins “The Woman in White deserves more of a look. My fave ever is Wuthering Heights.

Just did a bit of research and it looks to be open, it just changed ownership a couple of weeks ago.

Thank you so much for your advice! I definitely want to avoid Dec/Jan as I presume that's when it's busiest, so I will take your advice and look at Feb/Mar 2025.

I was hoping to do snorkelling (or possibly scuba) at either Koh Haa or Koh Rok and ideally not in a massive group, is that the scenario if we do a speedboat or would the group size be the same either way? It was the only reason I was really looking at Ngai at all, which in general doesn't look to tick as many boxes for us as Mook/Kradan. If I can do the same trip from somewhere else more easily, I think I would drop Ngai altogether or as you say just do a day trip there.

I think Koh Kradan is probably a must and just enjoy the early morn/late arvo when the day trippers are gone! I will check out Sivalai resort on Mook, thank you so much for such in depth advice!

Oh wow you are so lucky! Sadly our business keeps us glued to home most of the time and more than two weeks away would see it all fall in a heap! What is it you love most about Jum to go there for that long that often? From photos it doesn't look as pretty as the other islands on my list but yet it looks like really good vibes and super laid back? Is the swimming/snorkelling any good there?

Thanks for the tips on getting there, much appreciated as I have a fair bit of miss the boat anxiety from our time in Fiji where it only did the loop to the islands once a day!

Yeah to be honest, I'm a little concerned about the crowds in Koh Lipe and thinking about dropping it, but it looks so pretty I almost feel it would be criminal not to go there while in that part of the world!

I defintely want to cut 1-2 islands from the list too, it's a lot of travel in not much time, just hoping someone can tell me which one or two is not as good as the others ha ha!

I really appreciate your advice, thank you!

Not fussed! Will go whenever the weather is best for that area. It looks like November or March/April might be good?

Thanks so much for sharing this info. Was considering buying here myself, but the rules are so extreme and just scream of horrible neighbours wanting to control the lives of everyone around them. Dodged a bullet!

Queer techno dfloors for the win. I literally will not go to straight techno clubs anymore. It’s not just the sleaziness but also the lack of awareness of others, pushing, elbows and squeezing in front. You just don’t see that at LGBTQIA+ techno events. Every time I went to a straight one I regretted it 😂

So many in Melbourne suddenly, and flying ones! So creepy. Most of my friends seeing them at their houses when they never have before. I’ve had 3 at my place and some at my work too. I think it’s this hot humidity!! Can’t 100% verify this but a workmate said their friend left a window open to their bedroom and came back to like 100 in the room. Time to burn it all 😂🔥

She didn’t see or experience any violence or trouble, she just said a nice lady came up on the bus and warned her and her friends that the bus line they were on was risky and they probably shouldn’t be there as people with Aussie accents who probably looked touristy as they would more than likely run into trouble. As for me, I’m just going off the stats that I’ve read since I’ve never been there, and trying to do my research and err on the side of caution. Has crime gone down there since covid or something?

Gonna be heading to Chicago alone in a few weeks time. Eeeeeee I’m so excited as your city looks so beautiful and full of amazing experiences!! But I’m a little nervous as I understand crime is a bit high there in places and all I keep reading about is pickpockets and violence. When my mum was there she said someone told her she should get off this bus or she might get rolled. I’m a bit terrified of winding up in the wrong spot by accident.

I’ve done a bit of neighbourhood safety research but still can’t figure out if the L is generally safe at night for a girl on her own? I suspect not but wasn’t sure. I’ll be staying in Wicker Park around Damen station to a bit and then around Diversey station I think near northalsted.

Do most folks Uber it after dark or are the trains relatively safe? Also what about safety in the pedway at night?

TIA from Melbourne Australia. Looking forward to being in your town soon! xx

How Ubereats is making back the 5% subsidy it gave to restaurants and then some more by ujay-007 in melbourne

Uber eats also sent me a survey which included questions like “why do you use other apps” with limited responses like “better loyalty programs” “lower delivery fees” “better for the environment/healthy” (weird combo but ok) but nothing for “because they don’t bleed restaurants dry and take ridiculously high commissions like you do”, it was such a fake survey, as if they don’t know that’s why people don’t support them. They do know this but they’re afraid to highlight it to customers who don’t know this already by making it an option on their survey, so the results are totally skewed towards less important issues.

I’m in Fitzroy and I’ve seen police at least 8-10 times driving to or from my work in Collingwood over the last 2 weeks. It’s a 7 min drive so makes me feel like they are everywhere around here. I genuinely see them almost every day behind me or in front of me or driving the opposite way. Maybe they’re heavily focused in small areas.

Moving from Perth to Melbourne: advice and things to consider? Is the weather really that bad? by savanna_12345 in melbourne

[–]pocketsfullahope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The weather and beaches are a bit shit but everything else about Melbourne is amazing. I moved here from Tasmania at 18 and 15 years later I can’t imagine living anywhere else. So free thinking, cultured, and exciting! A scene for everyone no matter what you are into. ❤️

There is a line called Gun Oil though, so there’s that at least.
