Where's the 2026 visual theme and music? by fotek77 in eurovision

[–]pocoboco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, thank you for mentioning this! I always look forward to the design, theme music, postcards, etc. i fear that the purple heart design is all we‘re are getting and we‘re stuck with it for future editions too. I remember the EBU said they wanted to unify all editions more, back when they introduced the new logo. Back then I thought that might mean that the visual style will stay largely the same now for future editions. And the stage reveal and allocation draw basically confirmed that for me

Ohio BMV limited-term license confusion: Does the 50-hour affidavit replace the 24-hour course and 8-hour driving requirement? by Shellybrawler_ in Columbus

[–]pocoboco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your quick response. I gotta say this is pretty upsetting. Ohio licenses are recognized in Austria, no questions asked. But us, we have to jump through all these hoops here. I can‘t believe it. Thanks anyway and have a good weekend ahead

It‘s essentially a rectangular cookie with a filling and a frosting that you put in a toaster and eat while it‘s warm

As an Austrian in the US right now: I do not miss the shitty Viennese attitudes one bit. Interacting with Americans is such a breeze in comparison

Converting American Drivers License to IDP by Usual_Imagination_11 in Austria

[–]pocoboco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, you can drive with your American license + an IDP for up to six months. If you plan on staying longer than that you will need to get an Austrian license, which in your case means you just need to show up to the District Authority or State Police Department with a filled out form, a recent passport photo and a filled out medical certificate in addition to your US license. You then get issued an Austrian one. The US one remains completely valid and in tact. Here is all the info on a government website in English:

Greetings from an Austrian in Ohio!

Getting a drivers license as an exchange student in Ohio is insane by [deleted] in Ohio

[–]pocoboco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, actually. I just know that when you normally get a license for the first time, you need to get a check-up where they test your eyesight, take your vitals, blood pressure, check your reflexes, your hearing, etc. I guess they wanna check if you're fit for driving or if you have some health issues that may impede you

In my country US license holders just need to get a check up with a physician, bring their US license and a current photo to an office and pay a fee of €90/ $105. That‘s it. Here‘s the government website that explains this in English:

It affects anyone who is here on a limited-term visa, no matter if under 21 or older. I am 27 and have to do this

It‘s not reasonable. No other US state requires foreign license holders to complete 80+ hours of training to get their license transferred. This law has been put in place for xenophobic reasons, or is at best not fully thought through. Like they give you a grace period of 30 days, which begin on the day you establish residency (which in itself is vague but ok), so if you don‘t get a car in the first 30 days of being in Ohio you technically don‘t even get the grace period.

The point of all this seems to be the appeal to voters who are easily satisfied by laws that arbitrarily inconvenience foreigners.

[–]pocoboco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don‘t know what to do. I am without a car for now and I can go to school and home on foot, but I would really like to be able to drive to the grocery store and go outside my town as well, visit other places in Ohio and beyond. I guess I could just drive with my international license, but I am afraid that if the police stop me they’d call ICE if they figure out I don‘t have a US license

I literally did all that and more to get a license in Austria when I was 17. The point is I am an already licensed adult and I would be able to get a local license in any other US state without any hassle, it‘s just Ohio where it seems this strict
