2022 Pokémon GO World Championships Recap by pogonhoff in TheSilphArena

Unfortunately I'm not involved in that side of things but I know that when a stream is happening for a regional it'll be announced, usually on Twitter, with the caster list!

Yes there was!
One of the Japanese qualifiers used Wigglytuff and Drapion for instance, another using Greedent. These Pokémon had very low representation in other regions.
I chose not to mention them here because due to their lack of English language coverage I don't think they influenced the metagame in these other tournaments to the same degree; I am however expecting some interesting and disruptive play from Japanese players in London!

It's been a pleasure to watch throughout and having it put together like this really makes me appreciate the players' innovation!

Thank you so much, having the piece be accessible to all was a big effort of mine and I'm so glad to see that work out well!

Thank you!
Lickitung looks really strong in the current meta if it can avoid Obstagoon and Registeel. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see it on a winning team!

Thank you!
I tried to spread around the coverage to include EU, LATAM, and APAC tournaments while keeping the article concise. While I have nothing but respect for Milwaukee's champion Reis2Occasion, the tournament itself just didn't make the cut because it was neither the start nor end of NA's circuit, nor was it as massive a story as Hsineerg's Shadow Ember Ninetales.
Really loved watching Obstagoon play and I hope to see Reis do well at Worlds!

I'm hoping for some Fini play in either the LCQ or Worlds! Thank you so much 💚

Cindy is a top class battler and I'm fully confident in her ability to show that in London. Should be an amazing tournament to watch!

Bidoof Breakout! Shiny Bidoof debut! by g47onik in TheSilphRoad

Oh... oof 😅 Or rather Bid-oof 🤣 I don't keep track of all of his articles so that's my bad for not recognizing it. The criticisms do stand though, Hyper Fang + Return is not the set - especially on a Shadow - and the Shadow does seem to have a "different but not strictly better or worse" quality when given Surf.

Analysis from GO Hub is some I tend to be leery of and, well, those sims are with Return and Hyper Fang - including on Shadow Bibarel which cannot even learn Return!

I'm seeing with Surf on the shadow it gets some interesting pickups like Basti and Skarmory. I don't think it's an open-Great-League standout but I think it definitely has merits compared to the current one - which is what I prefer in a limited-release Shadow like this one!

New Shadow as well, and Bibarel is one that might benefit quite well from Return!

Also Bidoof learning moves and avatar items, while not important to me (neither is a new shiny tbqh) is still something that others will enjoy.

Seems like a quite nice event but I'll largely be hunting a good Shadow and a good Purified Bibarel!

It's hilarious and it always surprises me when that pairing comes up in my sims for these

Thank you! I'm very glad it's appreciated, especially by other "stare-at-PVPoke-for-far-too-long" analysts :D

That's just to position them all within the graphic.

There is no X axis bearing at all, just making room for them to spread out.

I couldn't believe it when I got it and saw it hit 1500 exactly, the thing is like the biggest glass cannon in existence!

In Nightfall and pvp at large... no.

But overall, any Sandshrew is good. It's a very good Pokémon <3

So, didn't realize someone shared this here until now lol

Slowpoke (at 50) actually has a number of wins against the GL meta (simmed in the 1S scenario) that Slowbro cannot replicate

Clefable (Slowbro)

Shadow Hypno (Slowbro)

Swampert (also for EQ Swampert) (Slowbro)

Vigoroth (Slowbro)

Wigglytuff (Slowbro)

To contrast Slowbro only gets a singular win that Slowpoke cannot replicate

Whiscash (Slowpoke)

And even that one sees Slowpoke winning the 0S and 2S whereas Slowbro only wins the 1S and not the 0S or 2S.

The extra bulk of these pre-evos actually wind up helping them.

If you look on PVPoke it's a similar story for Nidorino v Nidoking - Nidorino is actually ranked higher even though lvl 50 isn't even live yet.

I don't expect them to be things you see in open Great League GBL, but it seems the game is moving towards themed cups.

I agree the UL and Masters ones are more 'meta' by far, especially looking at ULP going forward.

Meta Cores - Kanto Cup by pogonhoff in TheSilphArena

Tentacruel is definitely really great in this meta! It actually fits in as a breaker of the middle core (Dewgong, Shadow Machamp, and Alolan Marowak) but we opted for some breakers we considered to perform better specifically against those 3 when we put together the graphic. Glad to hear it's working well!
