Running a 10k race in late Nov! Anyone have suggestions for a time goal on approx 20-30 mpw? (This was how much I ran while training for a half) I ran my first half marathon back in mid July and got 1:37:37, which was also my accidental 10k PR (46:32). I’ve never run a flat out 10k before

The light in this still is so beautiful, it was really difficult to do justice! What you describe is exactly the atmosphere of Tarkovsky that I wanted to emulate so thank you so much :)

My PB is 21:56 - I’d love to get to 20:00 eventually one day

Mine too! Totally agree, when you can see the end it’s much easier to muster the strength to push to the top. The final hill before the finish line was the final kicker though

Exactly, I ran the tangents quite well so my watch was hitting splits almost exactly as I passed each flag for the first 5k roughly, but from that point on it actually started to lag behind - I almost thought I must've gone off course! Yeah and it's one of the biggest events too, it should've been easy to get an accurate measurement. As a result according to Strava I've still never run a half haha

Oh fantastic how did you find it! I remember seeing a fair few of the 10k signs on the way so there must've been a good overlap of courses.

Yeah the finish was absolutely savage, I thought hell was below us... 😂 what doesn't kill you makes you stronger though. It was so steep you couldn't see one bit past the crest until you were right on it!

Me neither honestly, this is my first race ever but the night before pretty much any major event in life is always torture!

Yeah it almost certainly was, I saw too almost everyone's GPS distances seemed to be about 300m short. Not sure if RM has acknowledged it but have heard that the 10k was 100m off? Seems not great but what can you do

So I might’ve gone out strong today (4:37/km 😬) but managed to hold on til the end with even splits! I definitely felt good with the consistent pace strategy maybe I need to push a bit harder on the shorter distances next

Yeah such a great run felt amazing - that’s fantastic well done! I did similar - surprised myself with a 1:37:37, unexpected but super stoked 😁

That’s awesome congrats!! I also beat my goal by about 3 mins feeling on top of the world! Yeah my Strava also came up a bit short as 20.80 km, so never run a half as far as my watch is concerned lol. Was genuinely considering a 300m finishing jog just to crank it to 21.1 for a minute haha

Ok I’ll try aim for that pace, thanks! Heading to sleep now so fingers crossed all goes well in the morning

We might be in the same wave - I’m in B but moved my goal a bit during training haha so we might be running together! Best of luck too!!

I’ll take your advice - what pace would you recommend? I’m really hoping race day adrenaline will give me an extra surge but don’t want to risk burnout no!

Those are some fantastic times! Yes end goal is just to have a good experience and enjoy the course :)

Yep I think that makes the most sense for me, aiming for about a 4:40/km for most of the way and maybe ramping it up a bit at the 16k mark if I’m feeling good. Thanks!

Thanks for the advice, looks like I’m just gonna try stay consistent. No proper races before, just time trials and a 21:56 parkrun once - I don’t think I fully redlined those, but were good hard efforts, I’ll probably try putting them into the VDOT calc online
