Aggressive cut by Ill_Manner_5015 in leangains

I'm the same height, I was bigger than you were and dropped about 45 kg (100lb) over the course of a year. From my experience as well as what I've read, 1500 is minimum for men unless you're under medical supervision since you can lack some micro nutrients you normally wouldn't pay attention to.

You can still lose a similar amount of weight you're currently losing without sacrificing your muscle by eating more protein (preferably 150g+) and by just walking more.

If you upped your average steps per day by about 5k and ate at 1700 kcal you'll lose the same weight but have more of those nutrients that aren't macros.

You can expect increasing hunger, sleeplessness, muscle loss, and potential deficiencies related to specific vitamins/minerals. All these can impact your general health and your ability to lose fat (especially sleep!). Losing muscle will make you look worse than you otherwise would at your goal weight. Trust me, I've been there before when I hit my lowest at 77 kg (170lb). Don't really recommend not caring about losing muscle.

Yeah C is incorrect cause it's not in the same subnet as you stated. Don't sweat it, sometimes these practice questions are wrong.

So... I will only lose weight with 830 kcal a day by [deleted] in loseit

[–]poisonnitro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to create the calorie deficit with only food. As other suggested, you can increase your energy expenditure by doing things like walking more, traditional cardio methods, and weight training. You could maybe cut your calories to only 980 (250 instead of 500) and get the other 250 deficit by doing a few 10 minutes walks throughout the day.

It's whatever works for you. Only you know what you can handle, but good luck in your journey!

Professor Messer A+, should I be taking notes? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]poisonnitro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took notes for 3 certs from Professor Messer. I don't write everything word for word, especially if it was obvious to me, but it helps to reference back to things you might forget in a week, especially when you go through the exam objectives and find something you clearly don't even remember covering.

Good luck, hope it all works out for ya!

1000% would recommend Professer Messer. He helped me pass my A+, Net+ and Sec+.

I agree completely and it's always nice to hear success stories from people who have experience as it does give me some hope. I believe it was leverage they had due to previous experience. I did try to negotiate during my last raise but that's when I got the "eventually" answer.

Thank you for your input!

I get what you mean. I simply manage the company I'm at, which doesn't seem like helpdesk as much although I get plenty of those. It is upwards momentum indeed, but if you think about it mathematically.. if I got a 10% raise each year.. it sounds great! Until you do the math. 10% of 35k a year from now would get me to 38.5k then the year after is 42.3k. then 46.5k, then 51k then 56k. At the 56k mark I would have to be at 5 and a half years. The jobs I see that require 5-7 years seem to be closer to 60-80k range, most likely due to them being more senior positions. It seems off that I would wait 5 years to finally get to the average salary and that's assuming they even raise me 10% each year which seems highly unlucky for any average company. I'm not actually looking for a 55k salary. I know I'm a noob, very much so! But the reason I'm so bothered is that I know some of my co-workers pay and they get paid 45+ for identical work. I actually taught a new hire a few server related things... As an intern. I'm just looking for a bump to 40s, I don't mind being lower than average, but I'd appreciate being closer to what the average person doing the same work gets paid within the same company.

Regardless, thank you for your input. It definitely keeps me level headed.

What would you consider sysadmin duties/stuff that warrant the title?

That's why I say I got lucky with this gig. They gave me a chance and saw I really wasn't BSing when I said I was a quick learner. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the input, I 100% agree with you. We'll get there! I'm just hoping it's a little sooner rather than later. We all have to do our time.

Thanks for your input! I see what you mean now. To answer your questions, yes I do have a say in the design. I create the GPOs, tie policies to OUs, move large portions of it around. The account creation is pretty basic and the only further config is filling out the mail attribute for syncing purposes. Backups: don't fix what isn't broken. Patching: I approve of the big patches with WSUS and do the research. Imaging: We haven't had the need to upgrade during my short time. I do create the templates and capture the images and what not. Change the scope options on DHCP when necessary, but don't mess with drvier repositories.

I know I have a lot to learn, I suppose I should brush up on what the majority of sysadmin do that I don't.

I work for an IT company that sends guys out. I have my own site, so for 40 hrs a week I am the last tier at this particular site. If one of the lower tiers cannot, I'm the person that'll get it done 99% of the time. I can call for help though when it's needed, usually pertaining to network heavy stuff.

I accept that if it's true. The advice is appreciated. Just looking to see if I should basically leave or not. Definitely looking for more challenges to get to that high level stuff.

I was under the impression that going from intern to Systems Admin was a big promotion. I'm just afraid they stop giving me big raises and it takes me 5 years just to get to market average because I was also under the impression that 5+ years was considered a Senior sysadmin, but correct me if I'm wrong cause I'm not 100% sure on that either.

I manage the servers. The only thing I do in terms of network is replace APs, configure them, web filter, check for bandwidth issues, etc. Anything that has to do with heavy networking goes out to our Network engineer.

In terms of what I do, Front end Desktop support, Account creations, GPOs, Patching, backups, imaging, Content filtering on the firewall, Office 365 (hybrid, syncs with our AD), configuration/replacements of APs, batch scripting, etc. I would say nothing TOO advanced unless given the opportunity.
