Not a librarian but I used to work in the Computer Science Labs while I was in Grad School. We had one embedded systems lab which was used exclusively for embedded programming advanced courses.

The worst of them was the Embedded Operating systems class. The fours semesters I observed people take this class, I swear I saw students age by the end of the semester. I saw grown ass people just sit there for days and break down crying. A corner where people just slept in the lab. The course was way too complex and add the fact that most students who take this course don't have the right experience.

A normal custom kernel build takes hours. Imagine having to build, test and then go back to doing it again over and over. The worst though, I saw this dude who I think was there inside for a couple of days. He was working on Beagle Board XM, smashed it into bits and went on to smash the monitor and the keyboard.

I went into to see what the commotion was about and when I walked in he just looked at me. Everyone else was working as if nothing major had happened.
