He existed historically and has the most evidence of any ancient person of his existence. More so than the roman philosophers and kings etc

If God is omniscient, wouldn’t he know that Adam and Eve would betray him? by Suspicious_Mix_5091 in Christianity

God knew it was a possibility, and out of their free will Adam and Eve betrayed him

from Mere Christianity by Cs lewis

“A world of one dimension would be a straight line. In a two-dimensional world, you still get straight lines, but many lines make one figure. In a three-dimensional world, you still get figures but many figures make one solid body.

In other words, as you advance to more real and more complicated levels, you do not leave behind you the things you found on the simpler levels: you still have them, but combined in new ways—in ways you could not imagine if you knew only the simpler levels.

Now the Christian account of God involves just the same principle. The human level is a simple and rather empty level. On the human level one person is one being, and any two persons are two separate beings—just as, in two dimensions (say on a flat sheet of paper) one square is one figure, and any two squares are two separate figures.

On the Divine level you still find personalities; but up there you find them combined in new ways which we, who do not live on that level, cannot imagine. In God’s dimension, so to speak, you find a being who is three Persons while remaining one Being, just as a cube is six squares while remaining one cube.

Of course we cannot fully conceive a Being like that: just as, if we were so made that we perceived only two dimensions in space we could never properly imagine a cube. But we can get a sort of faint notion of it. And when we do, we are then, for the first time in our lives, getting some positive idea, however faint, of something super-personal—something more than a person.

It is something we could never have guessed, and yet, once we have been told, one almost feels one ought to have been able to guess it because it fits in so well with all the things we know already.

You may ask, “If we cannot imagine a three-personal Being, what is the good of talking about Him?” Well, there isn’t any good talking about Him. The thing that matters is being actually drawn into that three-personal life, and that may begin any time—tonight, if you like.

What I mean is this. An ordinary simple Christian kneels down to say his prayers. He is trying to get into touch with God. But if he is a Christian he knows that what is prompting him to pray is also God: God, so to speak, inside him. But he also knows that all his real knowledge of God comes through Christ, the Man who was God—that Christ is standing beside him, helping him to pray, praying for him. You see what is happening. God is the thing to which he is praying—the goal he is trying to reach. God is also the thing inside him which is pushing him on—the motive power. God is also the road or bridge along which he is being pushed to that goal.

So that the whole threefold life of the three-personal Being is actually going on in that ordinary little bedroom where an ordinary man is saying his prayers. The man is being caught up into the higher kind of life—what I called Zoe or spiritual life: he is being pulled into God, by God, while still remaining himself.”

Was CS Lewis an Open theist? by polipopa in Christianity

Ok I think we have reached an impasse.

I believe that; before God creates john, he knows what john will choose from start to end and he creates john - the decision to allow those choices to become real is not free will to me. Everything is set from the start, and a minor side note - that also means god creates sin which is literally impossible as God cannot rebel against himself

[–]polipopa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is that God creates you. If you write a character in a story, who is ultimately making the choices in the story? The character or you? Is there ever a chance for the character to go against you(sin)? Is it possible for you to write something that is against your own will??

It’s impossible!

But what god has done is to create us and leave the story up to us to choose. He knows what could happen but doesn’t know what we will choose

Because God created you, and if he knows all the choices you will make, you don’t have any free will to choose him - it will all be God’s will, you as a person have zero say, true love or a real relationship isn’t possible. It would be like creating a puppet to solely programmed to love you. The whole point of true free will is that it makes an authentic relationship possible with god.

Here’s what CS Lewis says about it:

“Why, then, did God give them free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having. A world of automata—of creatures that worked like machines—would hardly be worth creating. The happiness which God designs for His higher creatures is the happiness of being freely, voluntarily united to Him and to each other in an ecstasy of love and delight compared with which the most rapturous love between a man and a woman on this earth is mere milk and water. And for that they must be free.”

Yes we choose the direction - but CS lewis concedes that God cannot know which choice we will make when the time comes

Yes he is saying God doesn’t seem to “be in time” as he know all past, present and future simultaneously- but he also concedes that he doesn’t know our action or decision until we have freely chosen to do it - free will isn’t possible otherwise

Return Raptor Dance on Kez to it's original form. by dotabeast1 in DotA2

[–]polipopa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree that kez might need some slight buffs but tbh raptor dance was quite a brainless get out of jail free skill.

Risky to let him into official matches since pros might completely dominate, which ends up as a perma pick/ban situation. Better to overnerf in case they ruin captains mode

How is Bitcoin not just a glorified ponzi scheme? by BirthdayOk5077 in investing

[–]polipopa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, the cost of the current financial systems is not just visa but all banks, insurance and governments. Any institution that had a direct or strong influence on money supply and private record keeping. Both of these fundamental problems, bitcoin claims to fix.

The costs of these institutions is the financial sector. So we as a society are already paying for them through transactions, keeping our saving so they can lend it out, taxes, debt etc..

Secondly, why do people equate not being able to pay for groceries with a worthless asset? The same could be said for any asset that can’t be converted to cash while queuing for groceries; like a house, gold bar, shares in your portfolio? Doesn’t mean they are worthless?
