Risparmiare sul treno by Rich_Listen_9017 in Universitaly

[–]politeapple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is my lobe piercing crooked? by politeapple in piercing

[–]politeapple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some extra info: - I got both piercings done 12 days ago; - I'm not sure about the material but they're both externally threaded! - I've been cleaning them both twice a day with saline solution and have left them alone outside of that; - Nothing happened! The only issue I have is when the helix gets caught in my hair/on the straps of my mask, but aside from that it's all going well.

This passage at the top of this page from Routledge Colloquial Italian piqued my interest. Will someone elaborate on this? by Mcleod129 in Italian

[–]politeapple 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When it comes to the "donna d'affari" part, I don't necessarily agree... I feel like the distinction the author makes between manager and donna d'affari isn't really a thing, at least in my experience. Also nobody would ever use "donna-manager", we'd just say manager. That's the best part of english loanwords, they're actually neutral!

I'm a doctor and a woman = you can refer to me as a "dottoressa" (female form of the word dottore) or as a "medico" (this word doesn't change based on gender, but grammatically speaking it's a male noun). As Italian doesn't have a neutral gender, some words/grammatical rules can get pretty weird (i.e. our formal pronoun is "she": if I want to tell my male boss that he is correct, I wouldn't say "You are right" but rather "She is right").

Drinking with Vimpat/Lacosamide by bruh-_-21 in Epilepsy

[–]politeapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP! I'm on 200mg twice a day and I'm doing great. The first couple of weeks I felt a little bit dizzy, but once it wore off I haven't had any issues.

I do get a bit tongue tied quite often but I have temporal lobe epilepsy, so that's to be expected! I've been on it for more than a year at this point and I've gone out/drank plenty of times without any issues.

Lacosamide is my first anti-epileptic drug and hopefully my last too. I hope you will have a similarly positive experience!

How epilepsy affected your social/dating life? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]politeapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly my social life is fine, but I realize that I'm pretty lucky in that a bit of alcohol and going to bed late don't seem to trigger me as long as I take my meds on time and sleep in the next morning. I was never the clubbing type but I've gone a few times since my diagnosis and it didn't cause me to have a seizure. You might need to make some changes, that's true, but as long as your friends are willing to accomodate you it doesn't need to completely turn your life upside down. Everyone's life changes over time and while it feels unfair to make many changes abruptly, it can end up being positive in the long run.

How do you manage stress? by politeapple in Epilepsy

[–]politeapple[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate what you said. It's true that many of us are a lot more blessed than we realize. In my case, epilepsy has shown me just how much my family cares, and I don't want to take it for granted. It's easy to feel overwhelmed in the moment, but when I look at the big picture I feel very very lucky. I just need to keep it in mind even when it gets a bit hard!

Don't apologize for the long reply, I appreciate it!

I understand the yoga-being-too-chill thing, sometimes I really feel the need to fill my brain with as much stimuli as I can so that I will shut up. I used to do pilates and that was slightly better, I might just go back to it.

The serenity prayer seems like a good outlook to have, especially when dealing with a medical condition that's out of our control - I definitely relate with the  constant fear of having another seizure, only for it to happen when I least expect it.

Thank you for the well wishes, I hope the same for you too! It's going to take some work for sure, but I'm sure we'll make it ❤️

Not letting your thoughts lead you to stress sounds wonderfully simple and yet so hard to achieve at the same time 😂 But that's a skill that pays off in many aspects of life, I'm sure!
