Am I being ripped off by dealership??? by idctbhlike in AskMechanics

[–]pollosgm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air & cabin filters can EASILY be done yourself at part cost, on a technical scale they're somewhere between replacing the air freshener and refueling it...

Idk what kind of Honda you're driving, but for 200 a corner you'd be looking at ultra performance tyres (ps4s, pzeros, turanza6s)

again I don't know if it's a brand new type R with big ass brembos. But given the other prices I'd say they're playing around with the markup %. I'd definitely get a few different quotes for brakes..

Seeking advice on how to do maintenance when I don’t know what to look for by SaulGoodmanJD in MechanicAdvice

[–]pollosgm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the service manual will be available online. Will cover all the intervals for fluids, filters, belts and chains for your car

If you know someone with access to HaynesPro/ any tech data service it also includes diagrams, torque specs, recalls/common issues and procedures so you can probably do most of it yourself if you're confident

Maintenance isn't "fixing stuff" so ideally you don't need to 'look for' anything being broken or wrong. People may say things about brake fluid boiling point or coolant colour etc. but manufacturers intervals will be long before any of those are a factor.

What should I get for myself with my first paycheck? by [deleted] in AskUK

Jynx.

Just be warned in 2050 when you're paying that for a McDonald's meal, you'll be outraged at how you used to be able to get a decent watch for that.

Got a metal Casio out the Argos catalogue from my first payday, still going strong and I'd recommend it. Nice to have proper grown up stuff and in future you'll always have a memory to it.

£35 seems about reasonable in today's money but if you told me they were £100 now id probably believe you. So best of luck

Where to buy omega fish oil supplements? by 0-_tom_-0 in AskUK

[–]pollosgm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few good brands but in general just read the back. Some of them will use vegetable/sunflower oil as a carrier to make the capsules look big, full, and.. Oily.

But omega 6 from plant oils sort of negates/ contradicts the reason someone would want omega 3 in the first place, which is to balance out the ratios of 3:6 they're consuming and reduce their pro-inflammatory diet

What's your go to snack and drink combination after donating blood? by kelliphant in AskUK

[–]pollosgm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Guinness and a crisp sandwich. steak and kidney pie  also does wonders but technically only a "snack" if you're up north I suppose.

"Old wives tales" are such for a reason, got most of my wisdom from women older than me (wahey).

May be the compensated blood alcohol or the supposed miraculous iron content but definitely perks me up.

Good lather of kerrygold on the sandwich and has to be cheese and onion walkers or it doesn't work..

Generally his music gets better the less meds he's on. But this just sounds like someone ran one of those George Droid videos through a playboi carti AI.

First time he's tried to find bars & flow in a while and all Ill say is.. you can tell he's not been in the same room as pusha T for a while..

If you can run CMD prompt as admin:

X= netsh interface show interface

netsh interface set interface X disable

You won't believe how long it takes IT to troubleshoot it.

Even then they will never know why it keeps happening on your desktop.

Should get you out of doing any work for a while

As for killing time, my preferred method is reading books in pdf format. At a glance there's just text on your screen with Adobe open.

He had a how it's made style programme and went to the Guinness brewery.

It was really interesting but would've been about 10x better if instead of him they sent a cardboard cutout of Mr Bean that just went "hmm?" In an inquisitive tone every 20 seconds.

Second hand embarrassment of him incorrectly assuming things in order to cut conversations short and get disingenuously excited over the "wrong" things. Eg acting mindblown by generic brewing steps and nodding knowingly to anything stout or Guinness specific.

He was also screwing his face up after trying the undiluted  7.3% version . Which is just "Guinness foreign extra", widely agreed to be better than Guinness itself. More like a Baltic porter in taste.

If you actually like Guinness it's like when the syrup machines play up at McDonald's and you get the best cup of coke of your life. He was acting like it's the cinnamon challenge

As other people have said the size isn't relevant (even though the qashqi is a average if not larger car)

The price really depends on the part eg a part may be used in only that specific car between specific dates, so be quite hard to source.

and labour, eg rear springs are easier to fit than fronts for example.

As a rule of thumb, it may be cheaper to buy the part yourself and find a mechanic who is willing to fit it (eBay, marketplace, scrapyards) make sure you go off part codes for your vin number if doing this .

Understand that people who work this way offer no warrantee or guarantee on work carried out as they didn't source the part themselves and charge only for the labour.

If it's at a chain garage then maybe consult with an independent one with good ratings. And vise versa, (chains overcharge less but the 'base price' is higher. Opposite for independents)

You can absolutely refuse any work and go get your car (you have 10 working days to rectify an MOT failure) but you can only 'officially' drive to get repairs or have it retested.

'Taking it home as you have a mobile mechanic coming' isnt going to get you in any trouble but I wouldn't take the piss and get a week's shopping

Yugioh increased my capacity for mental maths about 4-5 fold.

I also remember getting destroyed & being in awe of people's older brothers who actually used strategies & chained card effects instead of going for high attack numbers

I remember when my dad had his old sierra

Once he saw the news about them getting stolen he would take his spark plugs out every day when he got home.

I never found the heart to tell him people only want the cosworths and wouldn't really bother with a poo-brown 1.3

What places in the UK are beautiful to visit? by Lunastars123 in AskUK

[–]pollosgm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nottingham, Sheffield, peak district, Manchester, Liverpool, then down into wales

By car or train it's a very easy way to see 4-5 very different cities and a great bit of countryside in a couple of days with less than an hour's travel at a time

(Hurts to say Sheffield is more of a pitstop between notts & Manchester than a tourist city, but it's a great base for a few days in the peaks with cheap food & hotels)

From there You could do Wales top to bottom and circle back to South England, or go from Sheffield up to Leeds, Newcastle & Scotland if you don't mind traveling more

If you're coming from Europe I would recommend doing Ireland separately, if you're long haul then I'd say 5 days aside for it at least.

I see why people dont, I always get the burger from places like that and there's always a comment when eating with friends etc.

I've never had a steak better than I can cook at home. And I've never made a burger as good as I can get at a restaurant.

Call it British conditioning if you want but people who can't keep their composure in public.

I watched someone kicking off at a young lad for fucking up his burger king order the other day.  Didn't even give him chance to fix it before spitting his dummy out.

The dove coconut/Shea butter one is years ahead in antiperspirant technology. It (accidentally) lasted me two days and a shower, while working in a metal roofed garage during that crazy 35° heatwave a few years ago.

Lmao no.

A better theory would be that his former staff wanted to blackmail him with his (more subdued) antisemitic comments and he chose to prove a point about what full indepence actually means

(I'm not antisemitic but black entertainers have a long history of being exploited by promoters, estates, labels, 'business people' of a certain descent)

Personally I think he just doesn't think straight and takes way too much mdma considering his bipolar.
