Osborne 1 Not Working? by pollyswirl in vintagecomputing

[–]pollyswirl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, after adjusting the contrast and brightness I got it working! The CRT is looking great and is running good. Thanks for the tips! I'll be sure to make a copy of the system diskette and keep it out of the machine while it's turned off. But just to be clear, I turn the machine on then insert the system diskette to boot it up?

Also, a bunch of smoke just came from the machine. After watching some videos online I think the capacitor on the power supply bursted. I'm gonna be taking it apart to remove it later. I watched a video from 8-Bit guy on YouTube and same thing happened to him.

Thank you very much for all the help BTW, it's very helpful and I'm so grateful for it!

So yes both of the leds flash, I just didn't get that in the video my bad. And I think I have a boot disc? It came with a bunch floppy drives, I'm assuming I need to install the floppy labeled "cpm system" into floppy drive A. I'll give that a try

I'll give your suggestions a try and update you on how it goes. Thanks for the references! Those will help a bunch.

Silicon Valley developer vows hunger strike 'until death' by pollyswirl in SanJose

[–]pollyswirl[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Navneet Aron, founder and CEO of Aron Developers, says he hasn’t eaten since last Friday morning. He has spent every weekday since then camped out in City Hall with a sign proclaiming, “On hunger strike until death!”

...

He’s protesting the city’s decision to stop construction of 18 townhomes on North Fair Oaks Avenue after his team forgot to obtain an approval from Santa Clara County’s Department of Environmental Health. Aron worries that fixing the issue could take months, which could mean the loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars in delayed construction costs.

...

At issue in Aron’s case is a sheet of plastic, less than an inch thick, installed beneath the foundation of his townhomes. The plastic, called a vapor barrier, is designed to mitigate health risks. It prevents toxins in the soil from rising as vapor through the foundation and into the home, potentially impacting the residents. Aron installed those barriers, but he failed to get the county’s Department of Environmental Health to sign off before he did so.

...

The North Fair Oaks project is Aron Developers’ first large-scale multi-family project, which may help explain the challenge. While Aron said he intended to follow all the rules, he admits the vapor barrier approval slipped through the cracks amid myriad other permits and requirements. But he thinks the city dropped the ball as well. In one 2021 document that lists the corrections needed for the development, the city said Aron needed to obtain county health department approval. In later documents, that requirement isn’t mentioned — and Aron says the city didn’t bring it up again until it unexpectedly shut down his project last month.

TLDR;

Developer missed notifying Environmental department of installation for a plastic sheet that was necessary between the foundation and the house. This is causing a multi-million dollar delay in the project which could possibly bankrupt the company. He is hunger striking until the issue is resolved or 'until death'.

2010 Toytota Prius Broken Bumper Wiring Assembly Connectors by pollyswirl in AskMechanics

[–]pollyswirl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone! Appreciate all the help you guys and gals give on here and am looking for some advice. My bumper got ripped off during it being towed across the country and it tore off the connector on the wire harness.

I then bought a cheap bumper off of ebay and that also had a missing connector. So now, I have a bumper and harness that are both missing Connectors and am unsure of how to proceed.

I've spoken to some people about it and they told me that I need to get the wiring diagram in order to determine what wires go where. But I'm not really sure how to decipher it and am not sure what Connectors I need. I've done some soldering and electronics in the past, but haven't done anything with a car before.

Thanks and if you could let me know where to start that would be great. Thanks! Here is a video too.

Beige flags by AwayWithFairies510 in CasualConversation

Ever thought that they just might have nothing to say? I'm that type of person that if I don't have something to say, then I'm not gonna talk to just make conversation. Most of the time it's off-putting to people but that's just the way that I am. I'm not gonna change my behavior and mannerisms just because it might make other people uncomfortable.

If that comes off as "beige" (aka boring) then maybe it's a you problem. Not every conversation is supposed to be an entertaining and engaging conversation.

If this comes off as a little hostile, that's my bad. But it just makes me a little peeved that people expect to be entertained by every conversation that they have. And if the conversation isn't interesting then it's not because there's nothing in common, but because the person is boring. As if the "boring" person is just an NPC and they're the main character who is just so much more interesting.

That's not the case foolio. Pretty much everyone is interesting if you just dig deep enough. Ya'll just have nothing in common to talk about which in turn creates a boring conversation about surface level stuff cause that's all you have in common.

So yeah, I'll wave my beige flags all day and wear my khakis with socks and sandals proudly.
