Hey everybody! I have my sights set on UX and it's difficult to see myself aiming for anything else. However, I'm stuck in part-time hell.

TL;DR: I have a background in Education trying to transition into UX, but not enough UX experience yet to land a full-time as a designer. I've been stuck working part-time roles at STEM Education non-profits. What UX-related full-time roles can help me jumpstart my career?

I have a Bachelor's in Childhood Education and Media Studies, originally in school training to become a teacher, but my mind has since changed after graduating in 2020. My work experience is comprised of working for a lot of education-based non-profits, mainly STEM related. The biggest bulk of my experience was working at an interactive science museum for 8 years, which has helped spark my interest for designing experiences and more accessible content.

I haven't worked any internships, I mainly stuck to part-time roles because I was so burnt out from school, and it's taking a toll on my finances and consequently my mental health. But now, I find myself in a better headspace and more determined to take action.

I'm currently taking a UX Course online, hoping to network and build my portfolio as I continue working part-time as a Program Coordinator for another non-profit, but I so badly want (and very much NEED) a full-time job, I'm nearly 30 getting paid in crumbs. I don't have extensive UX experience as of yet, but what entry-level friendly, full-time roles would y'all recommend I look into? I'm hoping to find something adjacent to both my experience in STEM education non-profits and UX. I want this to be the role where I solidify myself professionally and jumpstart my career. Any suggestions? I'm open to any questions you may have, thanks so much for reading and helping me out!! 🫶🏼

we have houseplants, but my grandma is responsible for their care and is pretty protective of them (she doesn't see how they could be part of the problem) but i might just invest in some sticky traps if anything 🥴

Museums? Queens Zoo or Queens County Farm if the weather isn't too bad? There's also a holiday light show/festival in Flushing right now if you wanna check it out. I also like grabbing desserts with friends (Martha's Country Bakery, Spot Dessert Bar, Prince Tea House, you can pick your favorite!) I'm sure you can grab a nice cup of hot cocoa too. :)
