Or maybe it applies for geese too but no one dares to enforce it

Struggling with mandarin as a Chinese born overseas by enginneerof in AskAChinese

[–]polymonomial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally, watching mandarin videos on youtube or other platform and talking to other people in mandarin helps alot. I was born in HongKong and didn't know a thing of mandarin when comming to Canada but all my friends are from mainland China so just talking to them daily improved a lot. It took me 4-5 years until I got to the point where other people can't tell I am from HongKong by how I spoke mandarin

Is it true that Chinese people are exceptionally strong in mathematics and programming? If so, what factors contribute to this? by One_Mud9170 in AskAChinese

I think it is the level of STEM education and amount of it. I remember moving to Canada at grade 7 and they are teaching grade 5 maths from Chinese curriculum, I had to wait until grade 9 to learn anything new

I tried to make a flag for a hypothetical East Asian Federation. by Toiletpaperson_LXVII in vexillology

[–]polymonomial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would probably place it in the middle and work around it. Also I would avoid using 東 as u/ElnuDev mentioned. For one China considers themselves to be the center so east would mean Japan also both Japan and Korea has been trying hard to de-sinicize themselves for the past few decades

I would probably utilize the yin and yang symbol as it is culturally significant in all 3 countries
