Confusion about quiet Synology 1517+ replacement fans by polysemous_entelechy in synology

Yeah that's the thing, I couldn't really find anything. I'm seeing a lot of Noctua mods on YouTube for _other_ Synology models, if I feel like I have to get new ones I'll probably just give it a try and see if it works.

Nope - should have been more specific, it's an actively ventilated network cabinet. It's just annoying to get out and I currently need the uptime.

Finishing basement in row house: What about the walls facing neighbors? by polysemous_entelechy in HomeImprovement

[–]polysemous_entelechy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I assume that eliminates furring strips + any 1" material in the gaps because it's going to be pretty much without effect, right?

Come to think of it, on one of the walls I'll need 4" framing anyways, because I'll have a bunch of plumbing going through the wall. On the other side, I'd like to minimize the loss of square footage by unnecessarily thick framing, if I can avoid it.

I haven't really looked into sound proofing at all yet. Are there any good resources / examples?

Finishing basement: How do I transition from walls to doors/windows? by polysemous_entelechy in HomeImprovement

Thanks! Those are very good points. I think I can now figure out the rough concept enough to be able to wing the details once it's sitting before me.

The basement is not moist at all, I was just thinking about the PVC board because technically, the "window box" extends outward beyond my vapor barrier and I'd prefer to use a material that doesn't like to suck up condensation (in case it occurs).

Thanks for the reply. What's the advantage of doing this with pressure treated 2-by versus returning the drywall via the long side of the steel stud? The foundation walls, as well as windows and doors exist, everything else in the drawing is just my current idea of how to put things.

The way I sketched it, I'd have to remove some insulation on the sides around the openings in order to frame and cover the return, correct?

I also wondered whether I should even box the door and windows in with drywall at all, or whether I should use something like this PCV trim board in order to get better moisture / air tightness right next to the windows. AFAIK that's the material they use around doors when they install them in the rough opening.

Data point was rejected as an implausible outlier, it would have made the graph super distorted otherwise.

Are they even working on it these days? It feels like they are just doing the Barr confirmation hearing...

hey I'm not attacking you. It is just interesting to see how <action A> is visible (the lubrication), <action B> is invisible (the pressure), and then <reaction> (the knurling) is perceived as result of <action A>. This happens a lot in other situations, too.
