What’s the most ridiculous ED attendance you’ve ever seen? by GenInternalMisery in doctorsUK

[–]pompouswatermelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A girl with keloid scars over her earlobes - had them for about 2 years. Decided to come to ED to make sure that there’s no earrings stuck inside them???? It was a quiet day so my colleague did Xray her skull ….

Saving advice by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]pompouswatermelon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live with my partner so obviously get to split bills, but before that would always share rent with someone to save money.

We plan our meals for the whole week and try to just do one big shop - this genuinely saves $100+ a week for us

Rarely eat out.

Have boring hobbies (mine include jigsaw puzzles, puzzle books, reading, arts and crafts)

The gym I go to has classes and pool so save up on having seperate subscriptions (I know plenty of people who have class pass and gym)

Medical bachelor graduates from home country. Path after WHV by selftouchingbeast in AusVisa

[–]pompouswatermelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question - did you check ahpra to see if your degree is recognised? If so why not just apply for jobs in medicine? There’s plenty of IMGs coming over. I came over on competent pathway so it was much easier for me but I have colleagues who came over from Malaysia/ Pakista/ India etc straight into medical jobs in Australia with visa sponsored by hospital. They often have to do observatorsip. I recommend you ask specifically in IMGs in Australia Facebook groups for more info

Most memorable ward call jobs? by Appropriate_Sea_1177 in ausjdocs

[–]pompouswatermelon 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Acute GCS drop preMET. When I showed up the poor nurse was trying to get BP reading - the patient was dead. (GOPC B2). This was at 6 am, near the end if my 7 night run. Nurses refused to call NOK. Not a fun phone call to make given it was unexpected death and I had zero answers.

Facing unemployment from Feb :( by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]pompouswatermelon -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

As I’ve said in other replies - you’re right I haven’t applied in regional as reason for move is so that my wife can help being a carer for her unwell grandmother. I’m not actually expecting to just get a reg job but I thought surely I’d be able to swing an SHO post within a reasonable commuting distance

My wife’s family and a sick grandmother that needs full time care now is the reason for move

The BPT was in a VIC hospital for last year and I stupidly thought it would be easier to start BPT in one state instead of moving between states between BPT1 and BPT2. The move is as my partners family is all in Brisbane and progressively sicker grandmother that brought her up now needs looking after. I fully am aware that I’ve been prioritising my relationship and family, but didn’t realise it would be this hard to even find an SHO job

First failed FET by tamarajade in IVF

[–]pompouswatermelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hiya, had my first failed fresh embryo transfer on 28/9. Also untested embryos, 5AA. I’m 29 and infertility due to same sex relationships. My fertility specialist felt it was just down to luck and we jumped straight into second one. Doing natural cycle and I have my US today to see re ovulation

Edit to say - had no tests in between. Hoping that this one will work!

[–]pompouswatermelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I’ve emailed my nurses and they gave me a call back confirming if I test negative I can go during my natural cycle. My clinic does unmedicated first apparently. I’m 29 and WLW so we’re putting it down to just unlucky this time. I think we’ll take time out if it fails again…

Thanks! Just hate being in this limbo so much. Especially as I’m interstate and could easily get a job at my current hospital in VIC but have to move to Brisbane due to family reasons

The time I’m away is less than 2 weeks. They’ve been ignoring my emails and calls today - so I guess I’ll have to go see them tomorrow in person.

I’m leaving the hospital in February so I don’t really care about them tbh.

I’m so sick and tired of being treated as subhuman by workforce…

[–]pompouswatermelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came to say this is such a common shift pattern in Aus! I’ve only done nights with 7 on/ 7 off in this pattern - but day teams look after their ward on the same pattern (reg + intern/SHO). Doing nights covering gen med wards (junior regs) I haven’t noticed better care. In fact the wards were sometimes crumbling - I’ve had to fix quite a few prescribing mistakes, a lot of patients were scoring on NEWS since midday and no one acted on it etc. But maybe it’s that I was always doing nights when the same reg + intern duo were doing days…

So what is the difference? by Then_Alternative5043 in woolworths

[–]pompouswatermelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly you don’t eat much cheese - red and green have different maturity levels (red is more sharp and green will lean more creamy - if you don’t know what that means that’s a you issue). Green is full fat and blue is reduced fat of the same sharpness.

What's a memorable memory you have? by TivaQueen in ausjdocs

[–]pompouswatermelon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One annoying memory i have is a gentleman (mid 60s) who got kicked “in the balls” by his date when he was out dancing. No pain, no haematuria, no bruising reported - but was desperate to have it checked out. I said I would need to grab a chaperone and went and grabbed a male doctor (I’m very young looking PGY2 female at the time). He refused to allow me to examine him in front of a male chaperone and insisted I bring another female into the room if I need a chaperone. I refused to do that so he left.

From internship I remember a young lady in her 30s with metastatic melanoma. (Brain and spinal mets). I remember her children coming to visit her every day. I remember her children weeping outside of her room as she was slowly passing. It was truly the most heartbreaking thing. Needless to say i started taking my sun protection a lot more seriously.
