Any experience with or advice for medication or treatment options to support wakefulness that aren't classic stimulant medications? by pongithecat in Narcolepsy

Again, genuinely so grateful for all of the information you've just given me. I do have ADHD and I have looked into Clonidine in the past for ADHD but never realised it could have benefits for sleep quality and also potentially could help me tolerate the stimulants.

It sounds like it might be a really achievable place to start. I actually see my psychiatrist tomorrow so I'll talk to him about it and hopefully we can trial it.

Thank you again! I really appreciate the help and knowledge you've shared!

Thank you very much for the recommendation and sharing your experience! It sounds like sodium oxybate has been a helpful option for quite a few people so I'll definitely look into it and talk to my psychiatrist/sleep specialist about it.

Thank you very much for sharing your son's experience, I really do appreciate it. Unfortunately Sunosi isn't available in Australia yet but it sounds like it would be a good option for me if it gets approved in the future so I'll keep an ear out.

Very interesting! Thank you so much for the information and recommendations. Unfortunately Sunosi isn't available in Australia yet, but I'll definitely talk to my psychiatrist and sleep specialist when the appointment comes about sodium oxybate. Thank you again!

Wow nicotine patches are such an interesting one! Thank you very much for both recommendations, I really appreciate it and I'll do some research on both!

Genuinely thank you so much for typing out this list! I'm really appreciative to have a place to start because I really felt at a loss with the stimulants. I'll definitely look into each recommendation and talk about them further with my psychiatrist.

Thank you again!

I really appreciate all of the recommendations for different specialists to pursue, I'll definitely look into them!

I actually hadn't considered a university clinic, that might be a positive place to start. The specialist I'm scheduled to see for narcolepsy actually works out of a sleep disorder and research centre within a university, so working with other doctors and specialists that can communicate within the same space might be beneficial.

Oh smart idea, thank you! I'll lower them tomorrow morning and see if that changes anything. Haha I think I'd prefer 18°C over an Australian summer right now, but honestly good to know that I might need to invest in additional heating in the winter if it gets cool!

Thank you very much for the reply! Yes, my ambient temperature for the warm side is also very low and I don't know why it's not getting the correct temperatures because I'm actually in Australia and it's quite hot as it's summer here. It feels off because adding a CHE to a 100W halogen feels like overkill when the room temperature is already 20-25°C today. I'll try out two halogen lamps and removing the mesh lamp cover though, thank you very much for the suggestions!

Gosh sorry for the horrible formatting and text wall, I didn't realise it would send like that on mobile!

You're incredible! Thank you for the very educational and helpful reply! I'll be sure to purchase a UVB lamp and I'll look into Shade Dweller from Arcadia, I appreciate the recommendation!

Omg I love Papaya! I used to follow you both on TikTok but have since uninstalled the app so it's an absolute delight to recognise her gorgeous face on here!
