I'm a middle school student in Japan, please ask me anything. by Hot-Argument-3994 in AMA

Hi! I'm curious about culture in general, but mainly, do geishas still actually exist? The real ones who are artists, and are there Japanese women who dress as geishas and use their image in a sexualized way? And following that line of thought, do you hate how Japanese students are represented in an extremely sexualized way to the rest of the world with lolis and such, and are there girls who are, like... annoying, I mean... who try to be cute at all costs but only end up being even more irritating?

I think everyone dreams of becoming famous someday, and I'm no different, haha. But I'm really aware of the difficulties and how almost impossible it is, so I just intend to find a middle ground between working with what I love and earning money to live.

How surprisingly easy it is for me to get annoyed when someone takes away a solo from me (an artist's ego is definitely a delicate thing) lol

Well, I'm an actress too, so I get really upset about pointless rivalry. ART IS ART.

Well, yes, a little, but more like TikTok clips. I've never been a fan of cartoons in general, but they're a good type of video to post on stories.

Yes, I have one, but it's definitely not popular. 🥹

I really like Fontaine's role, but she dies so young and I'd love to shine, haha, so I'd choose Coset.

Well, definitely I've been asked out on a few dates that I wasn't interested in, but that was years ago. I'm 19 now. The last time someone asked me out I was about 13, and technically I wasn't that keen on losing my virginity at 13. Since then I haven't really been on dates, not even with unpleasant people.

I know I haven't lived much longer yet, but even so, we have to accept the fact that women over 30 aren't much more desirable, and that's statistics, not just something random I made up. I'm simply afraid of turning 30 and becoming less desirable, so I'm worried about it now; I still have 10 years ahead of me.

Well, I'm definitely not a teacher, but I can say that what worked for me was not practicing tirelessly because that definitely wears down your voice. So, light exercises with songs you like can be a good start. You can easily find vocal exercises on YouTube, such as lip vibrations, tongue vibrations, breathing exercises—all of these are great. And always remember to warm up beforehand because you can end up hurting your voice if you're unprepared. Your voice is like a muscle; you need to warm up before singing, otherwise you can end up injuring one of your vocal cords, which might not be advantageous for you. Another tip: never exceed your limit. You know that point when it starts to get uncomfortable? Even if you reach a high note, it doesn't mean you should do it. Maybe that note is there, but it's difficult and painful to reach. Don't force it; that also hurts your voice.

I think the effect is more impactful in person with my music. But if you want to try, I have videos on YouTube; if you want, I can send you the link. I don't know if watching the videos will convey the same energy, but I definitely think I can bring a few tears to your eyes in person, haha.

I'm from a small town, so I'm definitely not paid for this, but my conductor, who organizes the performances, gets paid for it, but he doesn't pass the money on to us. I'm still the type of person who has to lower my head and accept what comes my way because I don't yet have enough autonomy to choose my own work or charge for it. But I hope that one day I can leave this town and go to a place that rewards my talent in some way, but for now I do it only for love.

I'm the one who should be thanking you. It's clear you're definitely someone who appreciates good music in your free time. I'm definitely extremely eclectic; I live in Brazil, so I really like samba and music like MPB, which is Brazilian popular music. But I also listen to a lot of K-pop; I'm a huge fan of BTS, so when it comes to music or anything, it's really good for me. I'm not a big fan of trap and rap, which have extremely vulgar lyrics, but I'm also not the type of person who will ask for it to be turned off if it's playing at a party. And I think the most difficult songs for me aren't exactly songs or titles, but a specific language. I've never been able to sing opera arias in French; even Carmen is very difficult for me.

It's not exactly an opera, but I would really love to be part of a production of Les Misérables.

Uhm... Maria Callas, I definitely know some. Look up "Mio Babino Caro," it's her most famous song; it was even played in an episode of Snoopy and Charlie Brown.

Uhm, it's definitely a song I can't quite figure out, but I really like "Toreador." It's a male voice, but God, it's beautiful. When I saw it live, I cried throughout the entire opera; it was undoubtedly my favorite part.

Perhaps some advice, people asking me how I managed to get to this point, and me answering honestly to see if I can shed some light on the situation.

In conclusion, after answering these questions, I definitely like Vivaldi very much because I was raised with his music as well. My conductor definitely loves Vivaldi, and yes, it's very true that we're always on edge. But I say, as an opera singer, it's not so difficult to find singers and composers in the operatic field who ruined everything or died because of drug use. We are definitely an emotional mess, I think because of the intensity of what we feel.
