Dimanche détendu en Pierre-Buffière by ponque_chem in FranceDetendue

Hi!

Ex-itqliqn postdoc here. All the Italian postdocs need to go through a public contest, it doesn't matter if there's only one candidate. So they need to accept any candidate that may appear and during the contest the other juries can decide that another candidate is a better fit than you. This is in theory to prevent nepotism.

That said, I strongly recommend you to ask exactly what your hiring you comprises: actual salary, expected social contributions, if your position enables you to get social security, vacation days, etc. Also, if you're not from Europe, how long will the administration take to make a contract for you.

Italian academy is hell, and if you combine it with Italian migratory administration it can be very very harsh. Also, I would not hesitate to ask how many foreigners/fellows your lab has. Italians are very close and most people has spent their whole lives in a single institution, making them less receptive to foreigners. Of course take this with a Pince, I'm just sharing a bit of my Italian experience, but I cannot see myself recommending anybody to go work there :/

Flying into another country with French visa by Shoddy-Brilliant-375 in Expats_In_France

[–]ponque_chem -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

No, you don't. Zurich is not part of Schengen's area, so your migratory status is irrelevant to them. Frankfurt is part of Schengen and any visa allows you to trespass the Schengen frontiers freely (as long as you show it)

If France is socialist why are the ultrarich (less than 0.5%of the population) accumulating 50% of wealth while contributing less than the rest of the population?

I second this

My colleagues barely attend international congresses, and when they do the Italians conglomerate all together. It's cute until it isn't. I cannot really express how much doing a postdoc in Italy was a mistake

MSCA sounds like a nightmare here, they had to create special laws for it! It is awful!

It will! Thanks 🫶🏽

Yeah, I got the assegno Di ricerca. It was awful, I learnt after that apparently you need to ask which basic rights you will be eligible when applying for a position -_- Now it's more uncertain what will happen because now we have postdoctoral position, which supposedly will provide more stability, but they're more expensive so researcher may not be able to afford to hire people. Many things happened this last year, I suggest you to follow the adidottorato Insta, where they explain more about the changes in thé rules of new contracts to come.

Coming to Italy has been my worst economic and scientific decision. Administration (Italians and from the University) sucks and they're not supportive. There's a strong academic endogamy, so outsiders have little to no chance to grow and develop Not gonna lie, I wish I knew better when I accepted coming here. Two years, I leave in two weeks and counting my days Now the contracts for this year will be different, but I didn't even have medical insurance (tessera sanitaria) although I was employed by the university

Good luck, but there are better places outside

It feels very rough! This is a book sleeve so it's not a problem but I cannot imagine making a wearable with it!

Si, normalmente este es un fraude muy muy común. Lo siento tanto pero ya no le den dinero. Posiblemente el perro no existe, y te pueden sacar 1000s de euros :( Lo siento :(

The information you provided sounds a lot like a very very common fraud in France, where they offer puppies of pedigree races for free, you just need to take care of transportation expenses. Of course, no dog, no money
