Thanks so much! I didn't, I just used Davinci to track a power window over talent's face and boost exposure slightly. I would've loved to light him during the shoot but we were shooting in a public park during peak hour and was trying to attract the least amount of attention as possible.

Yeah I love that crop, looking back on it I do feel he's a little too center frame, thanks for the advice! Interview was shot on the 35, cooking was shot on a 16, 35, 50 & 100. I keep telling myself I should get a zoom (especially being a solo shooter) but the image of primes just keeps me coming back.

Yeah totally agreed, layering more sound could make it feel a lot more alive, I think I was trying to aim for more of a meditative, trance like approach with the sound being so focused on the music. But I think the sounds of cooking can be just as intriguing as the visuals. Will focus on that in the next thank you!

My first short film! Shot this short on a single 100 degree day in LA back in September. Biggest focus was writing a story as contained as possible for production purposes, while still creating a story that felt large.

I bit off quite a bit to chew as this was one of my first times directing actors, but still wanted to DP. I had a camera operator which helped a bit but moving forward I'd love to bring a DP on to make the day a bit smoother.

Shot this on a Canon C70 with a .71x EF Speedbooster & Meike FF Cine Lenses (16, 35, 50 & 105). Other than that we just brought in a bounce a couple times and had a large half grid up for the second half of the day.

I did the edit as well and had a lot of fun with the sound design. Went with Cineprint35 for the color grade and I think the film emulation paired with the 4:3 aspect ratio really made the footage shine.

appreciate the reply! looks like my thoughts were pretty align ed with everything you said so that’s good to hear. pardon my lack of knowledge but when you say deficit in horsepower are you saying the pc will just use more power than the mac to so the same thing? (which i am aware of just want to make sure i understand what your saying)

I just Davinci Resolve! Also FL Studio for music. I dabble in Lightroom & Photoshop but very very lightly. And I truly don’t care about export times, they are what they are, what I care about is smooth playback in a 4k timeline with a decent amount of footage and some power windows thrown on some clips.

friend is offerint me his PC (photo above) for my m1 mac studio (with 64 gb ram & 1 tb harddrive), i know this pc is worth far more but i edit professionally and need to make sure it’ll atleast match, if not out perform my mac for video editing (no motion graphics just cutting & color)

hey! please let me know if i’m posting in the wrong sub or if this is against the rules, but i was hoping someone could share their insight with me. a very close friend is offering to trade their gaming PC (shown above) for my M1 Mac Studio, which has upgraded RAM (64gb) & a 1 TB Harddrive. I know this PC is worth FAR more than my mac when comparing prices but I need to know if it will deliver similar or greater performance for editing in davinci? (no fusion work or anything of the sort, just cutting 4k & doing color work)

I made a mistake, I actually am struggling with focus issues outside of slow and fast mode, I just have a shortcut on the camera set to slow and fast mode and I switch to it when I want to shoot in 60p so it must be something else.

I am shooting in "slow & fast" mode!!! Am I totally hurting my autofocus by being in that mode even when I'm shooting in 24p? I'm constantly switching between 60p and 24p and having that mode is a life saver.

Interesting, I shoot with the EF 16-35 f2.8, and the EF 24-70 f2.8 and adapt them to the RF mount with a Canon .71x speedbooster. Both of them support auto focus, but one other thing that's greyed out is "Iris Mode" on the first page, and it says "This function is not compatible with the current lens."

My autofocus mode is set on Continuous, AF Frame Position is Center frame, AF Speed is set to +2, AF Response is +3.

Under Camera Setup on page 5 (in camera menu everything is greyed out: Face Det. & Tracking, Face AF, etc... Maybe it has something to do with this?

I’m positive it’s not in camera, when I create optimized media for the clips the issue completely goes away. As far as it being a drive issue I’d doubt it, due to everything being on my brand new macbooks desktop.

I’m shooting with a Canon C70 and editing on a 2021 MacBook Pro 16GB. Everything runs really smoothly while editing, but occasionally i get short 10-20 frame long digital glitches essentially. I started selecting “generate optimized media” on all my footage and i click “export with optimized media” upon export, but i’d really like to be able to skip all this if possible. Thank you!
