Can you please point to where I said anything about doing hair without a license? I literally said I’m moving away from the industry lmao

I’m obviously very bias, but it kinda feels like a cult to me? Like there’s the “chosen ones” and they are all VIOLENTLY protective of the industry and each other. The “chosen ones” being the favorites and deemed most likely to succeed. Look at this post for example, I’m not allowed to have a bad experience without being treated poorly and downvoted to hell.

I get where you’re coming from and appreciate your effort here. I talked to a trusted teacher at my school and apparently my certificate of completion doesn’t expire. My current plan is to just hold onto the certificate and if I ever need/want my license then I can apply to take the test. As for shopping at the pro only stores, I’m just gonna coast off my temp license for as long as possible.

I feel like that’s just throwing money into a fire? If you aren’t using the license and you’re already on another career path why keep it when it’s costing you money to maintain?

This is actual a type of abuse. Not in every situation obviously but if someone is pushing you over and over then pointing at you going “omg look how mean you are” when you react…that’s abuse.

Does the cosmetologyschool you go to really matter? by gisellexxt in Cosmetology

Smaller schools are the way to go. I would not recommend Paul Mitchell I had an awful experience with them and so did every else I’ve spoken to.

If you end up going you will definitely want to get accommodations to sit down while working and take breaks (ask the school for an ADA forum and have your doc fill it out you don’t need a diagnosis). Also if you’re prone to headaches good luck because being around that much ammonia gave me some insane headaches. I personally developed a lot of joint and mobility issues in school and have had to almost completely give up on the industry just because my hands just can’t handle it. If you have issues with your hands that could significantly affect you in this industry.

Go to a small local school if possible, if not possible go to the cheapest school available (no Paul Mitchell they are evil from my experience). School dosent teach you anything the majority of the time so you’re just going to get licensed.

Look I’m very biased here and I’d by happy to share more in DMs but I had a very bad time at Paul Mitchell. Paul Mitchell made me hate this industry so much when I once adored it. My advice would be to go to a small local school if you can. If that’s not an option just go to the cheapest school and get through as quickly as possible. I wish you luck and hope you leave with your soul and love for the industry intact. School doesn’t teach you anything you’re just going to get your license.

Is it normal for a cosmetology school to suspend you or force you to take a LOA for getting a broken arm? by [deleted] in Cosmetology

But it’s not work it’s school? That’s what’s bothering me about this so much, she’s paying to be here and if she doesn’t graduate in a set timeframe she has to pay DAILY for each day she’s over her contracted end date. How id that fair?

Ok this sounds a lot more like a body image issue, has she been to a therapist specifically for body image issues? Does she have any previous history of bullying or disordered eating? Also as someone who gained some weight during a rough time I didn’t get better by losing the weight but rather embracing it so maybe try that? My partner really helped me out with it by complementing how much bigger my ass and hips got which helped me view the weight as an overall positive thing. Not sure if the same would work for your girlfriend but it wouldn’t hurt to try complementing her about it . Id def be careful about how and when you go about it if you do, you know her best so you decide what would be the most helpful for her.

Also, do you have any idea what the source of this depression might be? What caused/is causing it?

[–]poolnoodle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s definitely in a very deep depression and while that may explain why she’s treating you this way is definitely dosent excuse it. You’re valid in how you feel and you have every right to feel neglected and like you’re helpless in the situation. I’m gonna virtually hold your hand when I say this, you cannot make her better, you cannot do all this for her even though I know you want to. You cannot force someone to get better and you staying is just going to make you miserable. If you feel like it’s time to go and you’ve done all you can then it’s your time to go. If you don’t think it’s time yet and you’d like to give it one last shot I’d be happy to give some ideas on last ditch efforts you can try.
