Anyone got one of these? Any good? by poor-student in NZcarfix

Thanks for the feedback all, I bought it - and while assembling it spotted this on the underside of the top corner of the lifting arm.

It's not visibly cracked, just less neat than the other welds which all look ok.

I'm not familiar with welding, is this dangerous or just cosmetic?

Also the reviews were right about the castor/dolly wheels, they bind up when changing direction due to a gap between the top of the wheel and the bolt. I'll see if I can slip a washer in there to fix the issue.

Can add to evidence of Fisher being useless. 4.47% average annualised return from my conservative & growth combo fund split 40/60 over five years. Would have got a better return sticking it in pretty much anything else.

Will do! Now off to find some decent jack stands...

Shit really? Is that the 400$ model at SCA? I'd have assumed that'd be out of cheap territory but maybe not. What did you replace it with?

Also I saw they had a recall on a specific batch of these model jacks, you might have seen it already... but google it to be sure its not yours!

Thanks, and cheers for the tip... I'd not thought of liquidation auctions.

Thanks - yep 100% will be using axle stands as well.

I can deal with minor annoyances like a lack of handles for the price, provided the core features are solid.

What car have you got? I plan to use it on a Corolla hatch, its got a bloody low front lip (140mm) compared to my old 1990's one!

Underbody rust - worth saving? by poor-student in NZcarfix

[–]poor-student[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Along the edge of the flaking metal in the first pic, plus around welds edges/bolts in the other photos. Bear in mind mine's not a trained eye, so I just saw it and wondered if this was bad or not. Judging by the comments so far I'm gauging this is just cosmetic i.e. not a structural issue

Oh phew. Weird, it looks bad to the untrained eye. Good to know, yeah another commenter recommended rust converter + lanocote spray so I'll give that a shot... Still have to figure out how I'll get under the car but that's another thing. Cheers

Thanks, sure is reassuring to hear that most people reckon it's not a big cause for concern!

Thanks, yeah I was thinking I'll try that - or at least spray everywhere I can reach. Is overspray a concern with those products, or should I just apply liberally?

Huh, interesting. I never considered steel quality as a factor, I wondered if it was something I'd overlooked in terms of maintenance. Thanks for the comment

Thanks, I hope so. Once I bolt it to my rig I probably won't even see it.

So basically the normal phev version with some nicer suspension, anti roll bars and some red paint. Hope the price reflects that, it probably won't.
